I have heard that's the case. Certainly has a receiver for a trailer

That 1960 El Camino is gorgeous.

I do have to wonder though, given that Dinky, Lone Star and (I think) Tomte Leyerdal covered the 1960 version, why Matchbox didn't go for the 59....

Just back from Tesco, absolutely nothing new and very little on the pegs at all. Two taxis, three XKs and that was your lot.

Oops, got sidetracked going into Home Bargains and forgot about Tesco! I'll pop in tomorrow.

Today has been a big day for new stuff, starting with another 5 pack I didn't show you earlier20220303_161445.thumb.jpg.d3e9c677c5f2e840a2ebd860cc14b92d.jpg

As an added bonus it was free thanks to Clubcard vouchers.

I kept looking at this, I'm not getting loads of monster trucks but I like this one - and I could always swap it onto a normal car base as I've done it before

20220303_161306.thumb.jpg.13dd6658f500bcd14c4feb00612a5df8.jpg

Staying with in the package but a bit older, @eddyramrodsent me this lovely Color Changer 959 - pleased to see it's the superior casting with number plates as these got deleted on later cars

Original carrier bag bonus

Lastly for "new" stuff is this pair of Golden Wheel vehicles still on the card

Box two was full of absolutely mint Hot Wheels and others, I almost feel guilty how little I paid for them. Mostly I was after this for my blackwalls collection

20220303_164932.thumb.jpg.8249a6ca551629d1002958840e4d6a25.jpg

All the Hot Wheels are generics bar one, some are quite interesting though such as Double Vision

20220303_164817.thumb.jpg.3bc35bb167c4ec9b74f95e879ea2ea82.jpg

The last time I found a Pop Cycle I stole the bike out of it to go in a custom pickup truck and threw the rest away...

Now these I'd never heard of, seller had others and was selling them individually and getting fair money bid on them, but for some reason included these four in what I bought. They're marked "Speed Rebels". "The Dominator";

Rubbish weather means I can't paint anything, so got on with taking several future projects apart and dunking them in stripper etc.

I had a suspicion, now confirmed, that Corgi were quite clever in how they converted the Husky Beetle to be the Hot Rod - old door shuts are still there just hidden  by the side exit exhausts, and the alterations at the rear are done at an existing casting line

20220304_113418.thumb.jpg.90b4de27a33444cfc8ec00b13bbc08b2.jpg

I also found out the Dinky 914 has its body cast in two separate pieces

other things on the workbench include a brand new MK1 Golf getting a wheel swap and a bit of detailing

Today's exciting arrival is a Mini Dinky, first one I've scored as no-one bid against me

Every now and again I see people posting Facebook marketplace scores, I never see anything except overpriced tubs of tatty rubbish.

However this morning I noticed something interesting:

So how's about that then? Bought it off the original owner too. I know nothing about it really just too unusual to resist. There's one on eBay for £45 as just the car and remote, so complete and boxed for £15 is OK in my book.

Off to raid the kitchen drawer for batteries...

Checked out a couple of local Tescos and no LS400s! If anybody has one or even two spare please let me know.

Did end up with the Matchbox 5-pack of Japanese cars plus HW Mighty K mini truck thing.

Got this pair on fleabay the other day. The Mini is in good nick as well.

This 505 is going to get a new paint job from me. Might not stick with the red, or may use some of my 9892 Flamenco Red that I use on the Fabia.

None in the town centre but literally the only two Matchbox left in the main store - two Lexii.

I was in my local Big Tesco the other day.  No El Caminos, in fact nothing of interest, but the box had been restocked, suggesting the new delivery was in.  And, apparently, sold out immediately, at least of the things I/we might want.

Spent an age doing detail on this one - and got rid of the extra door shut lines that you can't see anyway...

Used a tiny drill to open up the ends of all the exhaust pipes too.

Wheels are the excellent Hot Wheels slots

Slightly weird email in my junk inbox this morning:

Scouting for Toys is a new ten-part fly on the wall documentary following Vectis Auctions. The show will be aired weekly on the Yesterday channel starting on the 31st of March at 9pm.

The series follows the activities of our Specialists and staff; and the buyers and sellers who come from all over the world, to trade every toy imaginable, from Star Wars figures, vintage dolls, diecast vehicles and tinplate novelties.

Discover how toys are valued and catalogued ahead of their auctions, and meet the passionate people selling their treasured collections amassed over decades.

I don't recall signing up to be on Vectis' mailing list, though admittedly it's not beyond the realms of possibility.

I also don't have access to the Yesterday channel, but may be of some interest to anyone here who does?

Ooh, that looks heaps better.

For me, Corgi Juniors always played second fiddle to Matchbox as they just seemed to lack the same level of detail and finesse as their Lesney rivals.

Your reworkings prove that they were every bit as good in the metal, but for some reason used quite thick paint that obscured much of the casting detail.

Nice one!

I completely agree about Juniors always seeming a bit basic compared to Matchbox, and I think some really are. Mostly though there was just no effort to detail things like headlights that would have made a world of difference.

Probably helps that that ^ is a modified Husky casting, and was clearly very nicely done in the first place.

I have attacked a Junior Mercedes too, that was pretty nice in the end but the base is of the same standard as a Chinese no-name, so that went in the bin, and it had some oddities like some of the casting lines being on the surface rather than in relief as you would expect
