Very rare to see an error like that on a Matchbox!!

How do you like this then, Citroen Traction Avant with some major casting flaws

Sticker from the whoosh n push.

Here's another pair that share a sticker, I was looking for a replacement for ages until I found a better Sand Cat, but no-one was reproducing it at the time

Merry Christmas everyone!

Speaking to Mrs_Jon yesterday, it became apparent that she hadn't got me anything for Christmas (she's a terrible liar, so defo wasn't bluffing). Therefore, I rectified this oversight, to ensure I had something to open:

20211220_135548.thumb.jpg.f10f573d3d2ad31208a2716e5a459836.jpg

On getting home just now and laying them out for the pic, I noticed an anomaly!

I also got this, since I fancied it and I'm a grown up, so can make these sorts of decisions:

20211220_135454.thumb.jpg.f8ac4666709181a93fe5c9092f3995ab.jpg

It's also a bit of retribution, as I've got Mrs_Jon one of these, bought a while back when the price wasn't extortionate:

Not really my cup of tea but I know she'll love it!

Excellent error find there!

Much easier to find Hot wheels errors than matchbox though.

Also you've found the new Sierra you jammy git!!!😂

Posted

Hot Wheels are B case by the looks of it, including the Cosworth.

Only thing I can see as an anomaly is the Fast Fish appears to be a BMW CSL!

Posted

If anyone comes across two Sierra’s could you pick me on up too please 🙏

There was a deal of 4 for £5, hence 8, to make up numbers. But then there was buy one, get 1 half price, which saved another $2 (£1), so a nice little bonus.

Thought some might like the Sierra! And yes, that is a BMW CSL on the wrong card. Am guessing there's no great value in that, though?

Not especially, there are error collectors who may buy it but you won't be retiring off it.

Nice find though, not found any errors for a while myself

Picked up this Husky Caddy last weekend, the nicest condition of anything in the box. Paid and put it straight into my coat pocket (so as it wouldn't get any more chipped) and definitely didn't only remember now I've put that coat on. Absolutely not.. Shame about the missing tyre but at least it has a tow hook and a bonnet.

Also gave the TK a clean and loaded it up ready to go in the cabinet. I must have had the MGB about thirty years and have never really appreciated it much before. No idea just what that is stuck to the osf wheel but it's tenacious. It's been lopsided as long as I can recall too.

Funny isn't it, my best one has a missing wheel and I can't find a replacement. Don't think many other Huskys used this type

Got both Matchbox Model As stripped, only need one but it's interesting seeing how different they are, one is the first release (1980) and the other is the Hot Rod (1986-88). Worn mould or cheapening? Bonnet and door shuts are gone as is the texture on the roof

First car related question applies to this thing (in a manner of speaking), rather than a full sized vehicle.  The car itself takes four UM2 batteries, plus a separate 9 volt on a snap on terminal connector.  My assumption, given that seventies electronics were relatively primitive, is that the 9 volt radio battery provides a permanent 'live' feed to the radio receiver and steering actuator.  The receiver, in turn, then electronically switches the motor drive circuit between forward, reverse and off.  The main battery array, the UM2s, are only live when the motor is running.  Does that sound about right?

Went on a collection mission this morning. Was a bit chilly

20211222_091952

First stop, Leigh for a couple of small lots - main prize being the red Superfast Mustang

20211222_12292620211222_122931

Then onto Laindon after a 20 minute delay as some muppet decided the week before Christmas would be a great time to cone off a lane of the A127 (no sign of anyone working either). Here I collected a very nice K6/11 with pokey-out engine and a good canopy. Still not found a Hondarora though

20211222_122057

Other item I'd won off him was this - I'm still not collecting Galanite as this is a Norwegian Tomte-Laerdal!

20211222_12340520211222_123411

I got home just as Hermes and Postie man were dropping off a couple of bits, hoping someone will know a bit about this one - French made Dinky Alfetta GTV. At first glace I had dismissed it as a Bburago

20211222_12434420211222_12435020211222_124357

The other box contained three bagged Color Changer Hot wheels, two (Probe) funny cars...

20211222_124543

...and this one which I haven't ID'd yet *edit* '93 T-Bird/T-Bird Stocker

20211222_124818

One of the funny cars was open so I thought I'd test it

20211222_124718

Hairdryer on the other one netted a similar if less interesting result

That's ex-Solido. I'm not sure of the details, but there was a handful of Solido castings marketed under the Dinky banner in the early 1980s. I have a Dinky-branded Citroen Visa (and a Solido version, actually). Not sure if it was just for the benefit of the UK and maybe US markets where Dinky was a more familiar name?

You may or may not remember this Volks-Dragon I found in a charity shop last month

51673223572_3eec758237_o

Well I thought I'd give it a makeover, and it fought me hard. I swapped the base with a spare as the corrosion was quite deep, slimmed and re-shaped the rear bumper to look a bit more Volkswageny, and then spent ages filing, sanding and filling the terrible casting lines. Then having done the matt black, I came back a few days later to find lots of hairline cracks in the paint. Don't know what went wrong but I had to strip the lot and do all the filler work again.

There are several ways to two-tone a Beetle, this is the only way I think looks good

Those racing wheels from the Matchbox are great for customs. Worth picking up crap Matchboxes if they’ve got good wheels/axles. On the look out for some for the Escort RS2000 Cabriolet I made earlier in the year.

I think matchbox did it better though!

Even if it is an XR4i.

Is that what they are? Thought the fronts were just off some Chinese no name I'd sacrificed, the rears are of course Pixar CARS wheels

Google-Fu confirms they are indeed Matchbox!

1990 Chevrolet Caprice in 1:64 scale by Greenlight. Chicago Fire Department livery. Unfortunately, there's slop in the rear axle which causes it to roll poorly. Still, quite a good looker and I've not had any fire service vehicles before.

Homemade;  6"x6" cardboard base with a 3" wide strip of cork laid diagonally for the road. The cork was painted with black and white acrylic paint mixed to make a dark grey resembling tarmac. I bordered the road by laying a bead of PVA glue with sieved cat litter over the top. When I brushed away the excess cat litter, it left a nice weathering effect on the road - accidental bonus! I spread PVA either side of the road and laid model railway grass on one side and dried builder's sand on the other. It looks a bit incoherent as a piece of scenery, but I only made it to practice before I try building something larger.

You can get them direct for €69 plus shipping and whatever UK customs decide to add on

They Should be tax free up to £130ish but I've heard some buyers getting stung

Thought I'd treat myself for Xmas, wanted a 1/18 scale sapphire cosworth but all usual makes are over 100 quid, so I took a gamble on a make called model car group, hopefully not too tacky..
