Shite in Miniature II

Here's a few more then. These are all 1/10 scale. First up is my lovely Tamiya Subaru Brat. This is the original vintage version. Tamiya has since re-released it:

One for the pineapple brigade, the Tamiya Sand Scorcher. This is the re-release version and to add to it's shite credentials I painted it in British Leyland Primula Yellow.

How's about a Citroen ZX on steroids from Kyosho?

Another Tamiya, the wonderful Toyota Hilux. For those that aren't in the know, this is the first in Tamiya's  '3 speed' range. As the name suggests it features a three speed gearbox. A minimum of four channel radio gear was needed to change the gears on the move. Kit dates from 1981.

Last one for now. The real thing isn't exactly in Autoshite territory but I like it so I'll add it. Another kit by Tamiya and dates from 1983.

It's funny how Tamiya were able to design stunners like the Hilux, Brat and Sand Scorcher but the Quattro (and Ascona 400 on the same chassis) have far too short a wheelbase that buggers the proportions. ZX is a new one on me, I seem to recall Kyosho did an MGB around the same time as well.

Most of Tamiya's RC models were indeed stunners around that point so it's odd that Tamiya should decide to base the Quattro and Ascona (that reminds me, I've got one of those tucked away too) on the Wild Willy M38 chassis, I mean, that was never going to lend itself to stunning scale appearance.........

Kyosho did indeed do an MGB  in both electric and glow engine flavours. I seem to recall they did a Lotus Europa too. In fact Kyosho did a few different cars that no one else thought of doing such as the Sierra Cosworth in Texaco livery.......Here's mine.....

Nice Tamiyas! I've got a Hilux stadium truck on a TA02 chassis back at my folks' which I loved building as a teenager in the mid '90's. Here's an impression of what it looked like for all of about an hour before the inevitable scratches:

myprunner1.jpg

I got it from Otley Modelsports (are they still going?) and bought a couple of extra polycarbonate shells later on - one was the Beetle shell like the Sand Scorcher (my mate had a Blitzer Beetle) painted orange and the other was a Volvo 850 estate, painted red rather than touring car colours. I had to buy smaller wheels for that one, naturally.

I also have a Mardave Mini with a Clubman shell painted in Humbrol French Blue and also had a 205 GTI shell for it, painted grey. I only remembered owning that after buying a grey 205 GTI.

Here's an example of the 205 shell in a very period colour scheme:

I forgot to add: when I went to Otley Modelsports, it was a big purchase, so I made sure to look over everything available before buying the stadium truck I'd planned to get. What sealed the decision was that my mate was buying the F150 version at the same time, which made it more equal for racing about. Sadly, I could have had one of those 3 speed Hilux with the hard plastic shell all painted up, sitting in their cabinet ready to roll, obviously long term ex-display stock.

I talked myself out of it but the economist in me wishes I'd bought it, as they're worth quite a bit now, I think. Even then, I would've appreciated what it was, so there's a chance it wouldn't have been a fun buy, as I reckon I'd have been scared to knock it about.

Jon, Otley Modelsport are still going and now go under the name of Modelsport UK.  I've got the Chevy S10 version of the Hilux you had, never run and complete with a loud early 90s paint job:

post-3973-0-77197700-1437742585_thumb.jpg

The TA01/02 was a very versatile and well used chassis with Tamiya using it for both on and off road applications. Here's a couple of road cars from my collection that might be of interest to shiters. Again, it's a case of shite on steroids:

Calibra DTM from around 1994

Nissan 300ZX IMSA GTS from the same year

Lovely job on that Buick, I have it too and the lights are ace! Fuel injector seals for tyres too, that's just made my day- some level 10 innovation there😎

BTW, that Jaguar xj6 isn't a Corgi juniors, just a plain Corgi. The juniors name on the baseplate was phased out around 1980 when new castings were releases such as the Escort mk3 and Metro.

I'm not sure why the baseplate is blank but this casting and a whole heap of others were created for a massive BP promotion around 1987. The Volvo 760, Mercedes 190 and mk3 Transit were some others. You can identify them by their baseplate which is plain except for a step over each axle, two chassis rails running the length of the model and a grained finish. A lot of older models were included in the promotion too, such as your mk2 Transit wrecker and Rainbow Rancho.

That Buick looks lovely!  Well done for finding a colour close to the original too.

How could I have forgotten about the BP models?  I have several, in their boxes!  I'll have to plead no room to unpack them, yet...

That looks fantastic. If you can get the vacuum operated headlamp covers to work, too, I'll present you with a special award.

Must add some of my stuff to this thread. My cars were all boxed and then given to my lad. Now boxed up again. Loving the tamiyas and that brat from sludge guts - I'm sure that was one I restored a few years back. Goes looking for pictures. .

He doesn't need to! Riviera buyers needed to wait until the '65 model for those. Corgi's was the original 1963 car

As usual with my collection there is a full sized car I used to have or currently own behind my decision to buy a model. This time my latest acquisition is Breadvans Alfa 156 Sportswagon. I know the model is blue and the original car is silver but I did not like the only silver model I could find.

Yay that looks great in black. I have the dark sea green version and the later mustardy metallic (TV decorators probably call it Chartreuse or summat) one with Golden Jacks FTW! Corgi captured the shape of this 60s Yank stuff brilliantly and the cast logo on the baseplate finishes it off nicely. Good work!

I have a Matchbox Mk2 Cortina in polished bare metal. Never been apart so it cant have been stripped without affecting the glazing....Looks great, guess it was some kind of production mistake.

Some diecastage was delivered.

A 1/18 Solido HY in Motobecane flavour:

OK, these are relatively cheap, still, it's a bit disappointing that only the upper hatch opens:

004.jpg

and the front doors open only ajar:

A Norev 1/18 Mobylette AV88:

Then I got this Welly HY in 1/24:

001.jpg

It appears to be merely grey primered.

003.jpg

Although the front doors don't open at all, the sliding side door does:

Again, only the upper hatch opens:

But the interior is actually better rendered than on the 1/18 Solido:
