Was the first release of the Vanguard’s model. It’s been stripped & sprayed Miami blue from the same paint my real ones sprayed in. Those awful wheels it came with replaced by some IXO dartboard style wheels. Just needs the black bits touching in around the holes in the wheels.
Down side to doing this of course is you lose all the printed on badges etc.

Sorry for the shite pics, it was dark and early. The forum is also fucking with the orientation, again.

Red one is English made, blue one is Chinese made. Different rearmost 2 rivet countersinks and the blue ones wheels have wider spacers. You can just make out in the 2nd picture how the wheels sit further in on the English (red) example.

Just to mess with @flat4alfa's everyone's head a bit more, three different sizes spacings on five arch wheels...

Whilst in Belgium, I bought myself off eBay a cheap Dinky Mk10. Now I've got one by Corgi but didn't realise they were different.  The new one has repainted in resplendent gold colour which actually suits it, a lot more than Corgi's salmon pink version. Notice the Corgi has a goldie-beige interior and the gold car has a red interior. A little bit of colour co-ordination there.

There isn't a lot to tell them apart...

The Corgi one has slightly higher suspension and is a little longer. It has an opening bonnet but the Dinky one doesn't and also has a (stolen) case (full of tea-leaved bank notes).

Going to be honest here and say I reckon I'm going to start collecting Dinkys.

When I was at primary school, 'Dinky' was used as a derogatory term for a crap model car, usually reserved for battered Matchboxes. I never really understood that. They're actually really nice models and I think I need to expand my collection.

I had loads of TCR as a kid.

It was a pretty cool toy, made originally by IDEAL Toys then TYCO.

They went bust, so it became increasingly difficult to get the parts to keep a set running. They used metal pickup shoes to transfer the electricity to the car from the track, which would wear out quite quickly. Tyres would go hard too.

I had the red truck from the original set I got for Christmas when I was about 10 years old. The yellow pick up is a 'Jam Car', which is essentially a drone car that would drive round at a slower pace that the other cars providing a moving obstacle.

They did some pretty cool stuff. As the cars weren't stuck in a slot, and you could change lanes/overtake, and also do jumps etc. There was a jam car articulated truck that had a powered ramp running through the trailer which was awesome.

TCR Camion SAUT Total control racing jump truck

They got quite imaginative with off road courses, broken bridges etc.

I ended up binning most of mine when we cleared my parents house out, as track isn't really worth much.

i was just thinking the other day i should probably dig out the two tcr sets i has and maybe see if theres any interest for them. one is a mk 1 set with the cars as pictured on the box, the other is the same set, but with a silver and black pantera, ablue pantera jam car and a different black and yellow stratos and also has the red truck which must have come seperate to the set. i did some research years ago into tyres and people have found alternatives, i also have some nos pick ups and springs! but i dont think ive opened the boxes in probs 10 years maybe even 15 and whilst renovating i cant see me messing with them any time soon,  i always prefered the powertrack, probably because i had more cars including the scirocco and mk2 escort  and could set it up in smaller space - but thats long gone, thanks to a storage 'solution' going bad. anyway the 2 sets are this layout   and are in original boxes (not my picture i just searched for the set!)

any interest and ill get them out the loft...

is that truck a jam truck? the front wheels look fixed to the right. you could also get jam vehicles fixed to the left - you probably know this, what is confusing me now is the yellow thing a lap counter? not sure how such a thing could work if your changing lanes and have jam car constantly on one lane....

yes the scale is a bit off but never bothered 10yo me!

you interested in the two sets? as it may take a little time to get them out of the attic! im pretty sure there complete no missing or damaged track or supports and some spare shoes and springs. boxes arent mint but they are old. at least one of them has been taped up a bit  should go without saying it they will need some fettling and most definatley tyres as it has been many years since used i dont really want to be splitting it up lol it will however be cheaper than some ive seen on ebay...

The truck is a Mk3 chassis, which has a steerable front axle for changing lanes. Older Mk1 cars had a weird crown wheel on the rear axle to send them left or right.

Jam cars had either a fixed front axle (left or right), or a steerable one on the 'ZigZag' Jam car which would alternate in a drunk driver fashion.

The lap counter worked by adding a clear plastic ariel to the racing vehicles that went through a slot in the roof of the counter building. More often than not the ariel would not quite line up and jam the car up.

Also just (almost) finished this Hot Wheels T2 pickup. I wanted to do a custom paint job but didn't have a fully formed plan. Body was pretty good bar a few casting marks on the roof, so I polished it and sprayed orange tail light tint over the bare metal. Base is a metallic brown out of a boot sale Car Plan rattle can, white interior, Temu/AliExpress wheels with no mods needed.

Load bed is the shiny black plastic left after stripping the chrome off.

Headlights are weird on these being a concave recess, so I painted them silver and put a blob of Krystal Klear in each which set to form a lens. I have just put a second blob in as it tends to shrink and I want a convex curved lens effect.

A handful from the weekend, picked up at Tesco:

IMG_20260323_135132.jpg.5ad1628df31c7b5de23eebf280e68eb7.jpg

Main target was The Plowveriser, aka Highway Maintenance Truck - I kinda like gritters and snowploughs, and it's impressive that Matchbox have had this one in the range for 36 years now - it debuted in 1990, though has been re-tooled several times over the years.

IMG_20260324_081018.jpg.bfb618156f64cccde5c89e9a93ca2532.jpg

Even so, it's recognisably the same toy I can recall seeing on the pegs at Woolworths back when I was in primary school, and that alone kinda appeals. Which is why this is not my first...

IMG_20260324_081039.jpg.781ba3626788a68b298b2d6dcde5edef.jpg

Pale grey wheels on the latest version plus white base/ plough with 'snow' tampo around the front wheels gives this a nice in-service vibe. I believe the same livery, but minus the snow, was seen in a five-pack sometime in the 2010s, so a good call back from the designers.

Confusingly though, Matchbox had already renamed their Tractor Plow as The Plowveriser in 2018, and was still including this in construction themed 5 and 10 car multipacks as late as last year.

There's no name on the base though, so I guess they can call it whatever they want?

IMG_20260324_080918.jpg.7b69843e7213d54d9a4387b17d4eae82.jpg

The Hot Wheels VW ID Buzz Bomb was one I've dithered over. With the pink colour scheme and the surfboards, it's Mattel's nod to their 1960s Beach Bomb VW - the prototype narrow body versions of which remain many collectors' diecast Holy Grail. Again, it's nice when manufacturers put in a callback to their older products.

IMG_20260324_080953.jpg.073e2d9583f7895ddff3ff4fd5341163.jpg

The pink plastic of the body is a little swirly though, and the wheels don't necessarily do it any favours.

But - it's here now, and if I change my mind then my niece will probably like it...

The Polaris RZR SXS in four-seater flavour is just a vibe all to itself:

IMG_20260324_081003.jpg.60f0f17505c4e4edc59fbb11fc0d8177.jpg

I have the Ranger and the two-seater from previous years, and while I've not much interest in the real thing I find it amusing how rescuing these things from the Utah desert basically keeps Matt's Off Road Recovery on YouTube in business (and in video content).

Maybe one day I'll order a Johnny Lightning Morrvair or Wrecker to go with it...

I found this Dinky Mk1 Ford Escort police car earlier this year.

Decided to give it a makeover into an Irish Garda car instead.

I don't think they ever actually used the Mk1 Escort here, although I know the Mk2 was.

I saw a picture online(which I can no longer find)of a Mk3 Cortina in Garda spec, white with a blue stripe so used that as inspiration.

As well as all this, it has the option of an engine that pokes through the hood, two different sets of metal wheel centres, a metal tag for the base that doubles as a keyring and a sticker sheet. I went with subtlety so just the American Racing wheels and a single Hot Wheels decal on the tailgate. Here's the little one

@flat4alfa I don't mind it at all, but it can be full of traders like Rich says, so I start at the back of the field with the regular folks and work up to the front. I’m working Wednesday or I’d say hello 👍

The current Mrs BB  bought me this for my birthday, and she was out today so I commandeered the dining room table to build it

Instruction booklet is quite a mighty tome

14 bags of bits was a bit scary, the last time I built Lego it was basic square houses out of my box of random blocks. This is way, way nicer and more complex, but it's very well made and even an imbecile like me can follow the instructions

I can't tell you how impressed I am with this, as well as the opening bits it has such details as an adjustable steering column and positionable gear lever, plus all the dash and trim decals etc. even the mirrors can be adjusted and there's a bonnet prop that folds away too

Comes with a matching 1:64 version exclusive to the kit

Suspension is also very clever and can be set to various heights on each wheel, so Gasser, Lowrider and drag racer stances are possible

Personally I like it just up a click or two at the back.

To me it's not Lego it's a plastic snap together kit as that's all it makes.

Am I early enough to ask a question of our resident scale expert before he goes to the pub?

@flat4alfa

As I was putting away the Corgi Torino I bought the other day I took some of the other 1/36 Corgis I don't collect out and had a look at them all as the Torino seemed massive compared to all the others

Marcel Van Cleemput in his Great Book Of Corgi states (as far as I'm aware) that all the newer larger models are actually 1/36

So is a Torino really much bigger than any of the other cars.
