Ah it's that job lot - I did consider bidding but couldn't justify it in the end. Think that BMW is another Welly

Welly BMW E30 Baur

Was the My First Matchbox looking one a Maisto by any chance?

I don’t think so, the base looked blank.

I'm about to roffle the lot minus the BMW and Land Rover.

25p tickets.

Years ago I came across these two vehicular plastic shapes on a local fleabay forum. They were part of some old garden kidz toys being got rid of. I spied the MB logo on a blurry image of the base but had no idea as to why they exist.

Over the years I have searched now and then and someone suggested they were burger king releases, and I've seen an image of a yellow version. I cannot even find a documented reference to them in the self help books. Am I missing something, is it staring me straight in the face? Help me understand what these are:

The plastic Camaros were in a Car Transporter set, I had one.  Will dig out photo

Matchbox gen-3 Chevrolet Camaro, although with portly proportions.

It's plastic throughout.   It scales to 1:31 length and 1:28 width, confirming the portliness.  So, approx 1:29

Dated underneath 1987.  So sought them out and ended up with three of the blighters

First seen on a page from the 1989 catalogue, range name BIG MOVERS.  At 22 inches long, they were !

Tinplate body on the truck.  Yet the cars are softish polymer.

Sourced from Tonka, I wondered, but no, they had their own:

Nice! Really useful, and mystery solved! There is a set in Dorset on Bumtree for a tenner and the trucks are 'around'. Great to see that they are a regular thing and I can now move them on as they are not something I want... and I could use their valuable space!

I received a Bunglebox today.  Pics will follow, eventually, but let's just say, I'm delighted.

And here are the pics, starting as usual with the actual box:

And this is what was inside it:

Should be plenty to keep me occupied there!

I wanted the DaysGone vintage-type trucks for the loads really.  The trucks themselves aren't bad, so if anyone wants them when I've unloaded them, shout up.  Ditto the tankers: I want a couple of the tanks for a conversion project, so now I have choices.

Those Camaros are rather excellent, I was looking through the '88 catalogue for them as they're dated 1987.

Only ones I've had were a matching pair of tipper trucks that took forever to sell on eBay

I thought I'd posted the Bunglebox I received the other day, but I can't see it so I suppose I didn't! Here it is...

I'd forgotten some of these were coming, the plastic GS is bigger than I expected

IMG_1166.thumb.JPG.94bcb274e43c2937ccf22bf52571fb59.JPG

The Chinese C3 is really nice and I had to compare it to the Corgi I converted to a (ahem) convertable

IMG_1167.thumb.JPG.009aadd7af56e3a5d92c48eaf38f5a2f.JPG

The orange one is a big bigger in scale

IMG_1168.thumb.JPG.3c844440278febbd77c49eee740a3e62.JPG

Today we went to Sandown Park for a massive toy fair, the queue was really long, but moved pretty quickly

IMG_1196.thumb.JPG.2ae5a5afbe43549d0324ceaa12988d14.JPG

This was a toy fair and a half, the pics don't really show how big it was

IMG_1199.thumb.JPG.b56e885d894c44c61450e8a944adc9a0.JPG

Maybe doesn't look like it, but many younger people and kids

IMG_1201.thumb.JPG.49c0d0ad55c4529cb20e3cb0165975a5.JPG

Lots of stuff was stupidly expensive, tubs of MOT failure Corgi & Dinky marked up at £20 or £10 in the sort of condition Id expect to be £3 or £4, lovely Tekno Volvo 144 for £395! Then I spotted this for £5 and secured it for Split-Pin. The seller also had a lovely Solido 1/43 Fiat 131, which I wanted, but couldn't justify the £25 he wanted.

IMG_1203.thumb.JPG.3d76c19083fa6daecb3651658906af3e.JPG

I found the whole place overwhelming and in the end didn't take many pics of stock, but did take this out of focus

IMG_1202.thumb.JPG.37ce4fde394804d3b3b02d598bd01d8e.JPG

This was the view over the racecourse

IMG_1204.thumb.JPG.66032709a1852c49dce5035b0aaab8d5.JPG

Could also see the car park was now a bit thinned out and spotted my muddy C30

IMG_1206.thumb.JPG.de1161006ce66401dfd9458e5a3140a5.JPG

Ok so what else did I buy?

This stuff mostly for Eddy was 50p each, but Tomte (?) Mini & Merc were £3 for both. Who likes these do you want the Merc?

IMG_1210.thumb.JPG.462a0f1173f37cc7f31264ca52cb914b.JPG

These were £5 each, all are usually more than this even in shit condition and all something I wanted for projects. The Corgi Elan is hilarious as it's been put back together with the front of the hardtop over the bonnet instead of inside!

IMG_1211.thumb.JPG.e2892387e01f6534f31b49b18a5b05aa.JPG

These were £3 each, lovely plastic Norev Renner 17 for me and Dinky Westminster for Eddy

IMG_1212.thumb.JPG.49bb8440c28c81116b96e6a7775bb95a.JPG

Found one of the usual sellers from local toy fairs and bought these for £5 each. I'm not sure if the Simca is French Dinky or not, I need to look at the base.

IMG_1213.thumb.JPG.d30aae6c5f53180367855c1b3143bbda.JPG

I've never seen or heard of plastic Politoys, in a strange scale of 1/41

IMG_1216.thumb.JPG.87eda9704f52b9f8e8d7f307dd5118c7.JPG

These are all lovely, another Inter-cars Nacoral Saab, I have two already, a Norev Jet Car R16 and a Politoys VW 1302

IMG_1220.thumb.JPG.c9eab3a767d1768f1856496458a55318.JPG

Lastly we were on our way out and a seller called out to me as I went past, "I'm doing deals now"! I'd looked at this lovely Yonezawa Gallant earlier and decided the £14 I got him down to was too much. He offered it to me for £10. Obv I couldn't resist!

IMG_1221.thumb.JPG.7a96bb891aad08ee94c3f93c3647b475.JPG

Lastly as well as the Mirafiori, I also picked up the 1/24 banger raced R14 in case @Split_Pin would like it as well for £2. No problem if you don't BTW.

Today at Aldridge transport museum, there wasn't much to be had tbh. I was hoping to purchase a couple of model cars/busses, but because it's not an event day, none of the usual tables were there. I did, however, come away with couple of Cavalier (Mk2 and Mk3) and Vectra Haynes manuals.

That's a pretty big game mat thing!

I'll just keep the cars and toss the game mat and bits into the sales pile. The packaging on this one was fucked brittle, stained, and yellowed. Those cars also need freeing from their blisterated tomb.

Been a busy week, so forgot I also had a bunglebox delivered.

Trying to be good, so not a lot in this one. All are cars that I had in my childhood that either got played to death in period, or are in the big box of old diecast that I packed up when I moved out of the parents' house 26 years ago and have still been unable to find... Dont know if its still at Ma's house or in our loft. One day...

IMG_20250222_130423.thumb.jpg.34cb7f1c8fe797c14c6c8740cb36af0e.jpg

Merc SEL is in playworn but still decent condition.

IMG_20250222_130356.thumb.jpg.1aa050207e3850c11eecacb6f8e7f08b.jpg

IMG_20250222_130820.thumb.jpg.e91031a430001e444474c14fe211bab0.jpg

Ah, for the days when Matchbox cars came with opening doors without having to pay £8 for the privilege... Nice touches on this were realistic Merc style seats (with the right shaped head restraints) and steering wheel.

IMG_20250222_130606.thumb.jpg.72dcd2aa4da17f663ef0952c0988b9a5.jpg

This 280 ZX is in really nice condition. Even the tampos are still fairly intact. Experience with my childhood example showed that a determined fingernail could remove them quite easily...

IMG_20250222_130714.thumb.jpg.564da0ee4cd4b71960c114b73539a5c1.jpg

Pleasingly RHD this one, and a realistic steering wheel again.

IMG_20250223_113949.thumb.jpg.6a0f996e85c841487541672b7e5f865a.jpg

One I've been after for actual decades. The metallic green one I had as a kid was literally played with to death. It lost its a-pillars, the wheels collapsed, lost almost every scrap of it's paint. It was one of my favourites as it was a model of an average, everyday car, which is where my preferences have always been really. Sadly on the likes of ebay, this is one of those Matchboxes that seem to be, like the Mk3 Cavaliers, impossible to get for non-silly money.

IMG_20250222_131014.thumb.jpg.8ec97c9910f1f8554d6ab5d9c5494bcd.jpg

For a cheap toy, they really did get it about bob-on, shape wise. Nice match for Ford Jupiter red too.

IMG_20250223_114009.thumb.jpg.e8b781dd9f55c64925c6c642b1dbb7c0.jpg

One of my favourite details was the way they got the font dead right on the badges, and the UK reg number. (Which all the MB cars in this delivery have, incidentally)

IMG_20250222_131033.thumb.jpg.b393ece75d80ff26f769a14165f517f4.jpg

Nice representation of the centre console inside but weirdly no gearknob and the steering wheel looks like one out of a 1950s AEC...

IMG_20250222_131418.thumb.jpg.2b7bb2d3a750dfbac3c5598768252e4f.jpg

I had the standard orange Capri as a kid, but not the Hot Rocker version. The big V8 lump does rock but sadly whatever it is that goes between the lug on the wheel and the engine has gone. Nice looking thing though, still in decent condition. In this guise it suits the oversized arches and tyres.

IMG_20250222_131431.thumb.jpg.42c916bd11e30214794e71993a16a9d0.jpg

Just come back from an extended break in Spain where I was able to find a healthy amount of new Guisvals which are normally rather difficult to find. Their quality is rather poor but a nice alternative to the usual Hot Wheels and Matchbox.

Posted

New Guisval Citroen 2CV which they've given a rather unfortunate rally type makeover to help disguise the rather worn out tooling!

Done a shitload of overtime at work lately and new diecast purchasing has been a bit sparse mainly because the usual suppliers are utter dogshit again. So thanks to a 20% off voucher from ebay last weekend, free postage (and klarna interest free payments!), I treated myself to this,

The second Corgi Screen Stars Professionals set which is obviously of cars from a certain TV programme but for licensing reasons, doesnt actually say on the packaging which one!

But you're left in no doubt which one (if you're an old fart who was an easily impressionable kid watching TV in the '70s like me...)

I already have the first Screen Stars set, which featured the two VHK reg Capris from series 5, and which was a pretty good seller.

This one, sadly doesn't seem to have been, surprisingly as the Vanguards Mk2 Granada always seems to be a popular release. It seems that fans weren't too pleased that it features cars from two different seasons. (I'm on a Facebook page for model cars from The Professionals and other film/TV cars. Those guys are fanatics!). Probably why I got a good deal on this set.

TBH, it was the Capri that I wanted the set for. The Signal orange X-Pack version is lovely, but  SOO 636R, Doyle's car in Series 1 is the one I've had my sights on.

People on ebay have been splitting the sets and selling the Capris individually. I've watched a few, but at the prices they've been fetching individually, it was a waste of time. I'm better off having bought the set and getting a bonus Granada...

(Tony from Professionalmania did approach Corgi about having 1000 individual Capris made to his spec with the Professionalmania packaging and the faults in the Corgi version (LHD wipers and stripes on the head restraints) rectified. Sadly Corgi didnt want to play)

As well as it's TV work, SOO was also Ford's press demonstrator for the launch of the X-Pack range.

The Granada is YHJ 766T, George Cowley's Granada 2.8i Ghia, which looks lovely in Jupiter red.

So, the set may be a bit of a mismatch, but now I have one Capri from series 1, (and something in the pipeline for the other...) and now Cowley's  Granada from series 2 & 3 which will sit  nicely with the Professionalmania RS2000 and Capri
