As we were talking about Minis, I like a Mini Clubman and owned two 1275GTs. This is a Dinky made to look like one of them, the Tara Green one is still in the paint shop...

BTW @MiniMinorMk3 what happened to the model of your 1275GT you were working on?

I’ve always liked the poverty spec minis, never had any interest in the Coopers etc, I saw a Billy basic City on an 84 A plate a few years ago and it looked exactly how I remember them to be before they got expensive and people did all the usual checkerboard roof and massive wheels etc.  I remember as a kid my brother had a Mini 850 at one point, can’t off hand remember the year might have been 72-73ish one. My abiding memory was the 8 inch long hole it had in the floor. 🤣

Was it paleish red ( not faded) with a tow bar? Ifso I know where that is.

No it was a French blue colour, he sold it on to a bloke that collected Minis, it had a big fuck off Oakley sticker in the back window.

steering rack

disc brakes in front

complete new electronics

How's about this for a bit of timing, Corgi Model Club Mini just arrived!

PXL_20250108_172457953.thumb.jpg.3ecf213b1bcf88497874e798523604cd.jpg

However, the (correct) 333 paper sticker over the box ends causes me a dilemma - all the others I could carefully open and repack without any damage - on this I'd have to cut through that sticker...

corgi made the box sticker peelable so peeps could get at model

Corgi originally placed the sticker so that one end flap could be opened without disturbing/cutting the sticker.

Today's diecast arrivals are quite a mixed bag from various parts of the planet.

I've seen plenty of the larger Polistil Beetles with the ghastly external door hinges, but this smaller version had slipped under my radar until now. Battered box was not helped by the poor packaging it arrived in

I had a Cabrio version. I see your example has the base with the 4 dimples that were used to locate the models when they came in the plastic boxes.

Efsi Citroen DS Break from Holland

PXL_20250108_155028336.thumb.jpg.72dede96ccd89cee3b1b8ad0e527793e.jpg

Is that a recycled (small) Husky casting with some modifications? Or just a copy?    Seems not! It's ex-Bestbox which I assume became Efsi. They did the one Matchbox-sized car I'd really like to find:

My latest 'find' is this rare Spot on VW - i say find as it was down to my wife, she volunteers for a local hospice that also has shops in the area, this and some other toys were donated before Xmas, the others were a mixture of dolls, trains, board games etc with a couple of other very common diecasts.

My wife mentioned that i collect, the shop co-ordinator said their 'expert' had valued the toy and that they wanted £25 for it, so she gave them £25 and its mine.

I know that is cheaper than what these go for on the open market, so i've donated a load of books, clothes and various bits and pieces that i didn't want after a house move.

Its sometimes all down to luck!

Thanks.

As I'm a cheapskate I use MS Paint, but the XP download to work with W11. I try to find decent pic of the decal online, ebay often sell full size car decals and have a picture. If I can't I usually draw what I want in paint. If it has the wrong colour background I delete it all on paint.

If the background is meant to be white I usually print it on paper and cover it with sellotape before sticking it on the car

IMG_9860.thumb.JPG.b089625d6efeac40d6fb97581281115b.JPG

If the background needs to be clear I print on vinyl sticky back for printers, but try to save up a few to do at once.

To get the size correct, I paste my decal into Word and set the paper size to be A4 on my screen, I then drag the image to the correct size before printing it.

I know It's a crap way to do it but it works!

TLDR: Make decal with MS Paint

               Resize in Word

Print on paper then cover with sellotape or on clear sticky vinyl.

I got this just before I moved house but only just unboxed it for a gander.
IXO Mack R series.

Decided to give it a load test so borrowed the trailer currently sat behind the Scania and loaded up with a meaty load!😄

IMG_6517.thumb.jpeg.e6738413fd11ca46e664fecca892b8ba.jpeg

The R series is a truck I’ve fancied for a while but they don’t often come up cheap. This was the cheapest I could find so I bagged it. I’m a bit torn on the livery though! The cab itself looks pretty cool, but the bright white chassis & running gear doesn’t look great imho. Obviously on a real road truck it’d be a terrible choice.
My intention was always a repaint tbh, but we’ll see.

The truck talk has prompted me to photograph the 1/24 Volvo F10 chassis before it's hidden under the cab.

UK Diecast Sales Facebook group. I've had a few good finds from there but you have to be quick!

I've seen a few videos about using dye to change the colour of Hot Wheels to good effect, so I ordered some, left the Fiesta body sitting in a dark blue for a while - did nothing. Did a bit of further research and worked out I needed one for synthetics. Would you like to see what it did?

PXL_20250106_142518403.thumb.jpg.1aa8cb2d184e97ae915a5b4795a29140.jpg

PXL_20250110_144618631.thumb.jpg.4c16f85704be2199f3a1003b65c441d5.jpg

Nothing. I don't know if it's because it's metallic so may have a clear lacquer, or whether Matchbox use a different formulation paint. I'd hoped to make it go more like Azure blue.

Still can't work out which wheels to fit, I thought these Hot Wheels ones might work to represent the wheel trims Ford fitted but I'm not 100% sold

RECC31906-1_1.jpg.jpeg.4cbb6976af6bcd9cf39abd13a1afdd3e.jpeg

I tried the 8 dots, but too much sidewall to my eye

PXL_20250110_150104594.thumb.jpg.6d1296510efb0f394a61098e2c00dd3b.jpg

Current best option seems to be these 8 spokes off a Mini

PXL_20250110_150226661.thumb.jpg.ec56a3a41d2b3827938696953566be3a.jpg

Detailing was really just rear fogs, mirrors, door handles, fuel cap, exhaust and some bits on the dashboard, the stereo bits in the boot and blacking out the rear post so it's less visible

Edit: I wonder what it’d look like on HW Blackwall wheels?

The 1.4S did not have plastic arches, but has got big grey side trims and grey painted sills to go with the grey painted front and...

rear valences. Also no extension below the rear bumper
