Must clean my contact lenses; I thought that said HEROIN on the bow – odd choice of name for a kids' toy,

I bought a replacement Ironside for mine recently

Corgi Juniors Whizzwheels Ironside Truck

Now I look at @junkyarddog's example, it appears the lift is missing too

Glad it's not just me that buys all sorts of weird and wonderful stuff though, I enjoyed looking at that lot!

Propped onto two different TK Maxx's today, my local one didn't have any cars but Basildon had loads - no MK2 Escort though.

It's a real shame Majorette aren't better distributed in the UK, they do such a nice job of their castings. 2CV caught the mrs's eye

They look great! As did that Escort.
I think I actually prefer Majorette stuff over Hot Wheels. Can’t say why exactly, but it just looks better. Somehow.
As you say though, it’s not that well distributed. I haven’t seen any near here.

Postie man had left me presents while I was out

Firstly, a boxed Zylmex R652 Porsche 935

Lovely. It wasn't the only Zylmex Porsche still in the original packaging though, this smaller Grippers 911 also landed on the mat (in a jiffy bag again...)

Need to dig out my original for comparison. While I'm there I'll be trying to find originals to line up with these rubber ones, very pleased to have found a job lot of them, as some sellers wanted quite a lot for just one.

I love the detail that's included, showing this was the flamed version of the Datsun 126X

What I didn't appreciate from pictures is that they're about half the size of the actual Matchbox vehicles. I'll be rummaging in the loft tomorrow finding all the originals!

Posted

So what did you do at the weekend?

Er... Watched Breaking of Thrones on netflix you know like some normal person...  Honest.

What I actually did is move these about a bit on the carpet.

I should explain 90% of these where given to me by my Dad's friend. He bought them new took them out of the box looked at them and that's about it.

They all look in lovely condition, that a great collection. Probably worth quite a lot too if eBay job lot prices are anything to go by

Another bunch of carded vehicles out of that job lot, and again trying to just stick to the more unusual ones

I'm particularly liking this lot, very nice.

I do like Majorette they are the right kind of wrong if you know what I mean. The Simca and Twingo are two of my favorites

I'll post some more detailed pictures later. Now I have sorted them into some kind of order.

Found another of the Matchbox Retro castings. This is marked series 13 so goodness knows how many there are, I'd quite like to find the Pi-Eyed Piper

PXL_20241125_173920191.thumb.jpg.d90da69f62dab294024d5d288857c1c8.jpg

28 series, produced 1989-99, stocks remained available well into 2000s

The First 6 were ‘World Class’ Series

Then became ‘Premier’ World Class Series

Probable successor would be ‘Moving Parts’ series, launched 2020

Going back to the topic of Matchbox registrations, and doing a bit of research (looking on Google), I think the first car with a registration is the Zephyr in 1963 with 521 AYF

I haven't looked through busses, lorries etc so there might be an earlier road vehicle, as that Muir Hill dumper doesn't count in my eyes

Holy mackerel! Lovely collection there @morrisoxide!

Yes it's! The chap who gave me them had a massive collection of all sorts. Don't know were the rest of his collection went I fear in the skip.

He used to tell me about his 30s Packards he used to drive about in the 60s. Driving from scrap yard to scrap yard picking parts up to keep them going.

A few pages back is the Triumph Combination which is supposed to be the first to have a plate.

Yes, I was trying to work out the first car to have one, I don't think the Muir Hill Dumper really counts. There might be a bus or lorry with a plate too, didn't feel like looking through them all too!

Just found this one while photographing loose VWs, appropriately enough the Flying Bug has a German plate, SA-C 9310. Doesn't seem to correspond to any specific area unfortunately

Whilst waiting for a rusty Micra to fail it's MoT, I popped into a few charity shops, mainly to keep warm and spend a bit of time until the library opened.

I found these in one of the shops who usually have a small whicker basket full of cars;

No buyages was made because of very tight finances (again!) But I nearly did buy this;

Most people would know this as a Majorette Mk5 Escort. They are usually a diecast body with metal bumpers attached to an underbody, much like this:

s-l1200(15).thumb.webp.0ceafd0e4ac4acf50913a955817bbd22.webp

s-l1200(17).thumb.webp.cd8070140567daf7987a1724070bcb10.webp

Except, the one I found isn't. It an all over plastic body including the bumpers (body and bumpers are all one plastic cast) the underside is metal but only stamped with 'Majorette' there is no other details, so I wonder what all that is about.

Just for its unusualness, I might go back and get it...

Yes please if you don't want it...

Edit. I'd like to place dibs on it once you've enjoyed it for a while.....

I reckon that's the Novacar version. Good find, there are a few others like the silver BMW and blue Hot Wheels police car worth grabbing too if they're cheap

Plus the SL and 5 of course

Spent several hours going through a box of loose VWs out of the job lot this afternoon. Almost all are mint, although not many are especially rare so I won't bore you posting them all.

This Matchbox Golf is quite a standout though, gold 8 dot wheels seem unusual?

There were plenty of the Hot Wheels Beetles, always found this one a bit odd with the sticky-out wheels. Pink seems to suit it though

This was something I wasn't aware of - I knew Matchbox changed the panel van casting from a single piece to a two section version that allowed for two tone paint jobs...

PXL_20241126_135122674.thumb.jpg.cc57a92fa9bf7b93d4ee94bf80ba4a76.jpg

But I didn't realise it also shrunk

At least they cast in a centre windscreen pillar I suppose, the old one being part of the glazing was a slight annoyance. Some of the versions I've unearthed are pretty strange, decals covering the windows isn't something I recall seeing before

Lastly this oddball. Wheels have been replaced and are obviously wrong. Looks a bit like a Tonka and a bit like a Tootsietoy, but it's neither. I doesn't really seem to have a specific brand name, just Hubley Division Gabriel Ind Inc

Pretty sure I had one of those Matchbox Golf’s in red with gold wheels when I was little. Definitely don’t have it anymore though. It would have been in the big box of my old toys that went to my cousins kids.

Probably in a landfill by now I expect.

Looks like I have a tatty example with gold wheels, and this lovely silver wheel version
