A while back I was posting something else up and mentioned I’d found another vehicle that I’d never seen in model, or at least my preferred scale of 1:43. Well it arrived yesterday. All the way from Japan!

70’s Datsun Cedric estate! One for @Spottedlaurel

I stumbled on this completely by chance. I had no idea they existed, but it turns out there was a Japanese vehicle collection of similar vehicles that doesn’t seem to have been available elsewhere. There’s quite a few cars and vans in the collection from what I’ve been able to find so far, but they’re not particularly easy to track down.

Heres the magazine type thing it came with. Absolutely no clue what it says!😆

Im assuming it’s a Japanese version of the AA or RAC?? I’m not entirely sure what the contraption in the boot is either, compressor maybe? But regardless of that it’s a very nice model of those big 70’s Jap cars! Quite an unusual thing to find.

I can just about remember seeing these running around here in the UK, although even by then they weren’t all that common. Certainly not as common as similar things like Granada’s. Saloons always seemed a bit more common than estates too. I remember a former colleague having a saloon one for banger racing too, rotten but still a magnificent looking car!

Here are some of today's finds. Got this Corgi Range Rover for next to nothing due to the broken spotlamps. Didn't expect to find all the bits inside

Most expensive single buy, and I think I might have been slightly hasty. Still, I'd not seen a Dinky Monteverdi before

Very nice, certainly one I'd be happy to have in my not-collection of 1:43 things.

Lik wise I can only recall one or two from pre-Datsun OC/banger racing days. One was up the road from us and I remember at the time being a little disappointed when it disappeared and they got a rear-engined Skoda instead :-(

Definitely one to try and find. A saloon model would be most welcome too. Likewise a Laurel!

The one my former colleague had didn’t actually last very long on the banger track. It was in the days where rules were much looser and they allowed things to race together that really shouldn’t have been.
It got T boned, hard, by a Nissan Patrol still running its 4x4!! Hit it so hard he almost got knocked out. The H frame actually got knocked loose too so he wasn’t allowed to race it for the day afterwards. I remember it specifically because it nearly ended up in a fist fight afterwards because he shouldn’t have been allowed to use the Patrol!

Does anyone else have irrational ideas of buying specific diecast? I've seen a model which is pretty poor quality, Hong Kong made but very unusual and likely early 1980s. It's also had a terrible paint job which needs removing and starting again. Thing is, I really fancy it for the collection! It would stand me in around a tenner if I bought it - there are no other watchers and 99.9% of the rest of the population would lob it in the bin.

I'm trying hard to avoid buying the damn thing!

Yep, that's the second release of the same casting in Denim Blue. The headlights are better on this than the red one.

Yes, I do. Probably in a slightly different way for me, but I tend to not be very good at avoiding buying them! Usually if it’s something I really like/want I’ll tell myself ‘No!’ Then keep looking at it over the coming hours/days and eventually give in and just buy it.

I think sometimes you do just need to concede defeat, cut out the middle man and just do it! You know your going to eventually anyway…😆

What is it? You’ve piqued my interest now!

Me too.  Perhaps fortunately for me, most things that make it onto my ebay watch list run away beyond my tiny budget anyway.  If they didn't, I really would need a bigger house!  (What, like I don't already???)

Didn't look specifically. I was pondering whether I could haggle much off a really tidy blue Corgi Toronado that was £15, if that gives you an idea

I got most of those Matchbox photographed yesterday, with a battery recharge needed towards the end! Most are not especially rare but are in lovely condition. Rather than showing 150+ pictures, I thought I'd just show some of the more unusual ones

For reference this is the actual car the red OD Mini is based on. I think the wheels are ok, the launch car had  narrow 12" wheels, not the 13" ones most later versions had. The glasshouse is a bit big, but actually not miles out, they did have tall slab sides like many 80s hatchbacks. The lights are an interesting example of not looking how I remembered because some specs had recessed headlights and separate side and indicator units (like that one does) and others had flush headlights with the indicators to the sides.

Looks like a Majorette Deluxe release of a Rolls Royce Corniche II - I had one in a sort of gold-beige colour. Plastic body on a diecast base, if memory serves?

Good find for 50p - even has its display dome.

some specs had recessed headlights and separate side and indicator units (like that one does) and others had flush headlights with the indicators to the sides.

That's right, it was a trim-level thing.  Upper spec = flush lights.  Those were the days, when 12" wheels were enough on a small family hatchback!

When I was very little, my mum and dad chopped in their Triumph Toledo (in British Leyland Racing Brown no less!) for a  black 1.0 Mini Metro as our family car. I don't remember much about it apart from painfully trapping my toe in the folding seat mechanism and my dad doing handbrake turns in the carpark when it snowed (most unlike my dad). Knowing my mum and dad it was either base spec or slightly above.
