No visit to Newcastle is complete without a visit to the world's most miserable toy shop

I did consider a mint in box Corgi Volvo 760 for £2.99, but the proprietor standing over my shoulder and snorting phlegm up his nose every 30 seconds put me off

Morris Cowley.
I couldn’t tell you why I like it though! I just do.

I’ve said this before but I’ve a real horn for the giftware clobber. It’s shamelessly tacky but it’s just so ‘of the time’. I’ve got a Rolls Royce ashtray I keep my spare change in when I go to bed. I’m off now to browse eBay for something really dreadful like a Mod Rod cigar box is something like that exists for my desk.

I know there's one or two Mk3 Escort collectors on here, so saw this and thought of you:

The seller seems to think it's one of only 100 made. Could be - I've not seen one before.

Bids start at a mildly hefty $15 (£7.50-ish), or a buy now of $25, should you want to stave off the serious local enthusiasts, looking to complete their miniature collections of cars not sold in New Zealand.

Happy to bid on behalf of any prospective buyers, but post to my gaff would be on top (and as always, a bit of a wait to recieve).

I saw a 1/36 version of that, MIB for something like £15 at a Swapmeet last year. Interesting livery.

That looks suspiciously like a promotional item, I have a couple of ashtrays with similar tyres on them. Unless they were intended for a wheelbarrow, cement mixer etc maybe?

Best ones are the Sand Cat ashtray and Street Rod calender. I've got three of the ashtrays...

I was meaning the tyre was a promo, don't think the one I have is the same size unfortunately or you'd be welcome to it - I just liked it to go with the ashtray, which was my grandfather's

Perhaps due to the 100 printed on it maybe?

Once in a while you find out about something and do everything within your power to acquire one. I don’t know why but sometimes, occasionally, something will grab you and it becomes your life’s ambition to make sure you possess it.

This, weirdly, is one of those!

I had no idea this existed until spotting it listed in the ‘Grande Auto’s Mexico’ list of models. Naturally there’s absolutely nothing available in the UK so Italy it is!
I saw the name of the car in the list (no photo) along with all the others I do know about and already have and thought wtf!?
A bit of sleuthing revealed pics of it and of course the desire to have one!😆
Certainly seems to be one of the rarer models in that series given how much harder it was to track one down than the others. Glad I did though! I know it’s not anything really obscure or pretty but, like I said, sometimes something just grabs you!

Next month it will be a whole year since this pre-production was displayed

Doubted that claim, so I went off on a search of the Google, looking for Ilford Escorts  ...and ended up stuck down a rabbit hole of massage service offerings, from a lass named Ivanka.

Will try again.

Looking again, 100 is the speed of the most common film offered by Ilford: 100 ISO.  So has nothing to do with a run of the model.

The real thing

Here’s a few of my recent models either completed or almost completed. Some have been sat around a while!

Couple of Corgi Buicks. I used these for a bit of practice more than anything but decided to finish them. Obviously they’re old and were both in a bad way when found but they’ve come up ok. Rechroming the bumpers with a Molotow pen worked wonders!

IMG_4869.jpeg.42f22182310e323695bb4e6164d15ef3.jpeg

Bond partwork Plymouth Savoy.
Starts off as a plain black taxi which doesn’t really show off the fantastic styling of these cars so I did it a bit brighter! The interior moulding is superb, but it too is just plain black and you can’t see the details at all. Once painted it looks great.

IMG_4861.jpeg.40adc06f217ffa093c0d4460b7694b66.jpeg

Another Bond Taunus, which is now a mk4 Cortina.
Bermuda blue paint with bumper over riders filed off to make a basic model. Just need to get the Molotow pen on them. I’ve got some replacement wheels for it somewhere too.

IMG_4866.jpeg.c0541d5b4560cebd918294dd215da9a1.jpeg

Spanish working vehicles partwork Commer Walkthru van.
Repainted into Southern Electricity livery. Been converting the interior to rhd on this too. Glazing was an absolute shit bag to put back in!

One I’m in the process of building now,

Sometimes I just see stuff that inspires me to make a model of it for whatever reason. This was the case with this, from a YouTube channel I follow.
80’s Chevy K30 roll bed.

IMG_4847.jpeg.6e986df9e8abb53ba4528f5b48b08201.jpeg

Closest thing I could think of to start with was one of the Argentina partwork Chevy C10 Silverado’s.
Clearly it’s way too short, but I started just taking it to bits and mocking things up loose with bits of plastic etc to get an idea how to alter it.

IMG_4873.jpeg.f7a4c73a4c342659d3a72a0438ed7d78.jpeg

The K30 shares the same basic cab but its chassis is more like a light truck than a pickup, so the cab actually sits up higher on the chassis with a bigger step. Bigger wheels are needed too.
First job was lengthen the chassis. Added a length of 80 thou plastic card in the middle secured with impact adhesive.

IMG_4877.jpeg.fe3c4a15c1d1608723f1914382c7a66a.jpeg

Found some suitable wheels left over from a Pegaso truck of all things! Had to drill out the axle tubes to make them fit though. Raised the cab with some plastic box sections glue in place, then sliced off the original inner wheel arches and reattached them on top of the box sections for the new height.
It does look a bit odd at this point!

IMG_4880.jpeg.2856c0aa4415f27dbd9156fcb71b43c5.jpeg

Then started on the rear bodywork. Used the Sierra just to gauge sizes. Made some mounts for the cab too.

IMG_4883.jpeg.a2773bba564d192d1fdea753ffc98b45.jpeg

Made up the entire rear bodywork from plastic sheet & sections.
The big box behind the cab is actually a small sleeper cab extension on the real truck. Tool/storage boxes under rear bed are just plastic box sections. I’ll make some doors to glue onto them at some point.

IMG_4889.jpeg.6a07277bb534b34e9f341719ada9cea2.jpeg

IMG_4891.jpeg.639113a60f8742c9cd8de765b23528b5.jpeg

Heres the body removed to show the chassis and strengthening under it. It doesn’t flex at all now fortunately even with a heavy car on the back.

IMG_4892.jpeg.33574f55c670bf2d5f1c74128a7989da.jpeg

Loads left to do but it’s quite a challenging build this one!

I’ve got some of that Tamiya clear orange and red tint stuff - somewhere! There’s a few of those models that either don’t have the colour at all or it’s so pale it might as well not be there!

Very nice! Really captures the look of the pre-facelift saloon with its fastback rear styling (changed to a more conventional back end after the mid-term update). I suspect the cost of yours might not have been much different to what I paid for a 1:1 example approaching 30 years ago:
