That stumpy plastic BMW E30

I wondered who has this now?

Why?

@FakeConcern won this veritable feast of diecast.

Having recently decided I'm only colllecting Corgi/Dinky sized toys I was thinking of roffling that box again with the Corgis removed and a few extra bits and bobs added. The Lone Star Impys would be included as well as that orange Stumpy BMW . Would there be any interest?

I was rather interested in the Lone Star Impys, so it's a resounding YES from me.

Well that's one ticket I can sell!

I just need to teach the cat to choose a number, is that right?

They never did Adidas Gazelles in that colour.  Maybe they should.

Because it’s plastic and would be unique* and great idea* fitted with one of these.  Not that the Wife would agree.

So today a huge parcel arrived!

Doing my best @eddyramrod and protesting “I won it in a roffle dear”  I *think* she believed me…. so I found a knife!

BLOODY HITCHHIKERS 🤣

Check this little lot out! Bloody fantastic! Hat tip to @Datsuncog for the excellent roffle and usual quality packaging. But whats this? A bonus Corgi Consul, a proper sweet little thing it is too! Cheers Tim 👍

Tragically, no, not this time...

But there were a couple of other bits and pieces I found, that I'd forgotten you'd asked me for - with the additional Corgi Cubs in my last parcel from you, I think we're all squared up!

Posted

I have no idea how it happens, but somehow I've managed to get some model time lately.  So, in my last box from @FakeConcern there was a Corgi Chevy Impala taxi: early issue with the one-piece bodyshell.  So I stripped it and set about correcting something that's always niggled me about this model.  It's the "flat-top" body, which on the real car is a pillarless four-door.  Corgi chose to model it with all the windows up, which is fine, except they then cast in some very heavy B pillars.  They're probably supposed to represent the frames that edge the actual windows, but at this scale, why would you?    They're much too heavy and make it look like a sedan, which has a completely different roofline.  So I cut out the pillars and even filed away the horizontal rail above, giving the side windows a much more pleasing aspect.

100_1264.JPG.ccedde49d41ea306041aa504db2ff312.JPG

100_1265.JPG.f9829a45f8f182b74c36be39f06003ea.JPG

Why paint it black?  Because one of my friends in the American Auto Club North West has a black flat-top, because he was so smitten by a real one he saw as a kid that when he retired, he just had to have one.  He's now had it at least 15 years and it's an absolute credit to him.  This model will now go in the Personal cabinet, which not only includes cars I've owned, but also cars my friends and family have owned.

And now to Corgi Juniors, and a Renault Trafic van from @danthecapriman.  This is for the Film/TV collection, you may recognise it...

100_1266.JPG.fb4ff6f4bfdac1dc3b4f691ed3e8990a.JPG

Zak Dingle's tasteless two-tone van from Emmerdale, of course.

And then the Hero Car (to use the modern parlance) from a very old TV series.  But it was the Hero Car for only one episode, in which it was gratuitously wrecked, before being replaced by the car most viewers would remember.

100_1268.JPG.85f364f5bc853eeffddec5a6762580d9.JPG

Yes, it's a Hillman Hunter, the Corgi rally car of course.  Another Dan treasure, this one was aching for some sort of restoration.  So I stripped it, filled in the various holes, painted it blue... and now it's Eddie Shoestring's car from the BBC series.  Mostly he had a red Cortina estate, but this is his previous ride.

Posted

Crumbs, I well remember Eddie Shoestring's Cortina estate but I've no recall of his Hunter... must have missed that episode!

Good that someone's around to keep a miniature record of all these things!

Posted

Great work @eddyramrod! That Chevy looks brilliant without the pillars.

I can also confirm, that Hunter was an absolute mess before! I think it was clearly someone’s favourite toy way back when, and it’s been played with! A lot!
Looks fantastic in the blue road car style👍

Yesterday's 1:1 car show and autojumble had much more to offer than the toy fair the previous weekend, I could have bought far more than this lot:

IMG_1462.JPG.9bcc08f91b60e12cdd770f94ebe02f09.JPG

Star buys were probably these two for £1 each:

IMG_1463.JPG.0804a5c73647133fac998c40cb5bc6fb.JPG

Another seller had a Siku Citroen SM, but they wanted £10.

IMG_1465.JPG.2711afca320bab373a32706c574d05d3.JPG

Great to get such a tidy example of one of the big Majorette trucks, with a rather fancy horsebox.

IMG_1466.JPG.61e124d7a317b71ae798aa69dae9ea29.JPG

I have a couple of 3dr Majorette 5s but the 5dr has somehow evaded me until now. Solido version goes nicely with the random French things I have in 1/43.

IMG_1464.JPG.520ca4304ed22d0ba754b53414f1fb6b.JPG

Catalogue not cheap at £5, but it marks what they had in the range in the year I was born.

And on the subject of garages....

This was very nice, but I couldn't justify spending that much.

I love those two service station sets! I could have played with those for hours as a kid! Never seen that JoyToys one though.

The catalog is interesting too, is it just me or are the wheels drawn in very similar style to the old Hot Wheels blackwall style?!

That's exactly the market Lesney were aiming for, Hot Wheels had taken the toy car industry by surprise and so they were fighting back with the likes of Superfast and Corgi Whizzwheels

Here's what I got at Shepton mallet toy fair today, always early bird it,the pleasure of walking round with no crowds, finding any good stuff that's not been snaffled and leaving as the huge queue snakes around outside is worth it.

I have a thing for mechanical horses and scammell scarabs,so that's another one to the collection, the acadiane was £1 and the same colour as one my dad had so had to get that. The ant is to replace one I had as a child that's long lost, happy with that for £6, and particularly pleased with the Anker Trabi,I had been after one for some time,a barkas also on the want list, this was a whopping £12 and is very lovely

In a kind of madness, I decided to opt to remove the overpaint using various mild abrasives rather than a full restore image.jpeg.9a9de28bd0b56a0cc13ead02e347744a.jpeg

These close-up pics reveal that you could go on forever removing tiny paint fragments

However, to be honest it's now pretty much as good as the one I already have on the left...

Bit of a mixed bag today, lots of choice but all the good stuff was at less than bargain prices.

50p for this even as a donor is alright though

However I got my pants pulled down here - first box I started rummaging in was absolutely full of correct era Matchbox, bought far too many tatty ones and gave an extra £2 for this - only realising later it's got a couple of rather glaring faults...
