With the six cylinder though they could catch you out when wet and turn about suddenly on a crest.  Don’t ask me how I know. Thankfully it was at dawn and I hit nothing, merci, Monsieur Gendarme.

I had an old E21 320 six that did a nice pirouette once. I was only doing about 15mph round a bend and the back went. Luckily I did not hit anything so was able to carry on my merry way. I also had an E21 316, with the 1.8 engine. That never caused any problems. Great cars those E21s. I'd rather have one than an E30, those are a bit too Yuppie for me.

An engineer visited my place of work last week to service a piece of equipment. I saved these o-rings from going in the bin as they’re a perfect fit as tyres for these Dinky models!

I had several E21s all of the 316 variety. Roundabouts in the wet were no problem.

I then traded in my X plate 316 for the 323i E30. On the first roundabout at the Seafield road junction in Inverness I approached as I would have done in the 316, only this time the back end of the E30 jumped out and I was only saved by the LSD straightening me up.

I’ve always been careful of the E30 in the wet since then.

I'm working on another "simple" resto today, Matchbox T3 Transporter, the Graffic Traffic version. Compared to the early 70s Pontiac I've just done, this casting is awful - the detail is still there but the metal is full of defects, there's flash all over it and it's just generally much lower quality than the earlier casting.

Base bears the legend "Made in China"

PXL_20240318_124252446.jpg.162a8a8ad66e178e28dcca17029f9cf2.jpgPXL_20240318_124302619.jpg.a016c96bed2b255597f44c33cdd81098.jpgPXL_20240318_124318194.jpg.46743ccd28cd2964eba4db1c4cab6a4a.jpg

I've already started giving it a bit of a sand, this is a resto but the QC is so poor I've got to make it a bit better before laying paint on. Some of these defects will still show but they would have through the original paint anyway

Graffic Traffic is back together. Annoyingly the base cracked again where I'd fixed it before but it's not especially noticeable

I've got the remains of the donor plus a mostly complete but stripped police one with red interior spare if anyone needs it? Has the teledial wheels!

Last little project for today, this 64 Nova gasser has been at the back of my bench for months as I thought it needed a wheel swap and detail

So I did. Wheels are from the Jay Leno Tank Car

Sills and wheel trims not fitted as I need to see if I can get them to send new door windows - the winding mechanism is shite. Also I think an overhead light LED has gone walkies at the plug end but now the plugs are sealed in a rear arch well...

Slightly raised eyebrows from the Mrs when I got home, two packages landed today.

First was a mini-haul from @danthecapriman. I'm secretly pleased with my self-restraint this time. Not being pissed this time round possibly helped as well...

IMG_20240318_221744.jpg.4152bebc55e23f862bec21f5b7cbc608.jpg

These Husky Commer walkthroughs are cute little things, Ive seen a few on here and wanted one for a while. I loved the real vans as a kid as well, there were a few working the streets in our area back in the day as mobile shops (ex mobile libraries), and fish & chip vans.

IMG_20240318_221759.jpg.cea88ac2d2f5e1bac358ec9615778493.jpg

The Corgi VW hot rod was one of my favourite toys when I was a kid, but for years I never even knew there was a standard Beetle by them too. This one is a nice clean example.

IMG_20240318_221813.jpg.6b778121139ec1b2cd2dce311c1a4dad.jpg

As is this Datsun 260Z, same colour as the one I had.

IMG_20240318_221836.jpg.bd166691f43872e931141780fc646ee6.jpg

Another one I was completely unaware of  until fairly recently. As a kid I had the Superkings A series U-Haul Luton van, but never came across this in the toy shops. I should be able to form a couple of tow hooks from some of the flexible wire we use to bundle up bandsaw blades at work. Replace the hooks and re-silver the wheels, and it should be reet.

IMG_20240318_221854.jpg.069baf47eba661c82777960869367eff.jpg

This Golf is almost box fresh save for a couple of small chips.

IMG_20240318_221905.jpg.a169b9da3357abd6b68cf76b538f6046.jpg

My original one had barely a scrap of paint on, and no roof rack by the time I finally parted with it. I shall most likely treat this one to some repro surfboards.

IMG_20240318_221725.jpg.59cc3a4efc2f00b039ccf37378a747c1.jpg

Always wanted one of these big Corgi Capris. This one's pretty good, it's all there, glazing is good and the tip up seat backs and steering wheel are still present. Not sure what to do with it yet, as my resto/modding skills are practically non-existent, but I do fancy this in LeMans green or Purple Velvet or something.

IMG_20240318_222110.jpg.5909398eb3d70df9e0a8a3496b905177.jpg

This one is the highlight for me. Ice cream vans are a bit of a secret obsession of mine, and at the price Dan was asking for this, I had to grab it.

IMG_20240318_222210.jpg.18428ab21a319c17fe4cb7b290be67cf.jpg

It's far better than I was expecting. Tyres are all present and are in great condition, and it sits well on its suspension. Glazing is decent and should clean up well, I think there's a sliding window missing from this side, but it's the serving side anyway, so I'm not too fussed there. The server even still twirls away inside,

IMG_20240318_222408.jpg.7772520ab5edce88b906089a7f67c7f9.jpg

This one will get a repaint soon, I'm looking forward to getting on with it.  My intentions are to not restore it to shiny original Mr Softee spec, but as a 2nd or 3rd owner independently operated vehicle, like the slightly down at heel vans that were around in the '70s.

Thanks again to Dan for more bargains and another cracking sale.

Dilemma or what? I’ve had the gloss superfast wheeled one for 30 years plus, it’s well and truly fucked apart from the shell. Should I use it to make one good one with this regular wheels one?

Some great restoration and project work going on here of late. I really like the wheels on the Nova gasser, what a transformation!

Thanks, there's quite a lot of detail work in it that's not immediately obvious but takes it a bit closer to a premium. Most of it's inside, all-chrome interior needed a bit of black on the seats and dash etc to tone it down

Other arrival was this,

IMG_20240318_214914.jpg.a58ae138aba9263589204d26fa06b73a.jpg

Having a few sporty Escorts now,  from MK1 to 5, I fancied a MK1 Focus to continue the line, and have been watching these for a while.

IMG_20240318_215047.jpg.0279a3d2f8be9a0f8f3e036379d40289.jpg

Tickford had commissioned diecast retailer PDQ diecasts to have these made as a corporate gift to mark the Focus RS's 10th anniversary. A bit of a licensing fracas with Ford ensued, and by the time that was sorted, Tickford had been sold to Intertek, who weren't interested in the model. Leaving Dave at PDQ holding the baby, so to speak, and 2000 models to shift. Lately he has been selling some small batches at almost half price with small paint defects. They were cheaper than Vanguards/Minichamps to start with, so I finally got one as a late birthday present, after having them on eBay watch for years. This does have a couple of small spots, on the roof, I have a few Minichamps models with the same.

IMG_20240318_213032.jpg.aae82cf12d16f213ebf31ce2252f268f.jpg

Ah well, I'm not going to be able to retire on it as an investment,  so it's going straight in the display cabinet anyway! It was cheap.

IMG_20240318_212615.jpg.f7b679fc5d980d47bc08ee535d86b567.jpg

It's made by Premium X so it's a well made thing, with plenty of detail. Like the real thing, it sits nice and low.

IMG_20240318_212724.jpg.c0b23abfa3174019b4492b733f15fb89.jpg

Apart from the slight defects, the Imperial blue paint looks lovely too.

IMG_20240318_212806.jpg.c71291af409c3750f43bd25eabb5d28d.jpg

IMG_20240318_212640.jpg.e605c2d191ad10e374cdca44cf385edb.jpg

Being a "premium" model, the badges are actual badges, not just tampo printed. Nice detailing on the rear screen too.

IMG_20240318_212859.jpg.704443f894fa3a3bca9a766a6e9b7a58.jpg

Detail runs to brembo logos on the calipers,

IMG_20240318_213359.jpg.d7ad56493481de95fecc878dca817412.jpg

My shite phone camera doesn't really show it well, but interior detail is well above the norm, with realistic steering wheel trim and gauges,

IMG_20240318_213212.jpg.3b767cc7767df022235bba4ad0442f4a.jpg

Decent heater controls and radio,

IMG_20240318_213532.jpg.4a0e0bffa16db6cf8bac3f48ba6b4f9c.jpg

Correct Sparco seats and seat belt buckles,

IMG_20240318_213742.jpg.192ceb29c61223ec0a803adf94258d4e.jpg

Even the green starter button...

I would if I were you. The regular wheels are nicer than superfast’s imho.

If you’ve had the other one so long, it’s not like your destroying it, just fixing it.

Get that Capri stripped and painted!!
Got to start somewhere… besides, it’s not that hard to do and you can’t really ruin anything. If it goes wrong just strip it again and start over!

Exactly!  I had a bit of a masking disaster recently, as you can see above.  I can deal with the ice cream van (another Dan bargain) by brush.  The two-tone Ford sedan just needed re-masking and the darker shade spraying again.

I stripped the two vans and re-primed them.  This morning I've put some colour on the CF.

Thank you; that was my plan indeed, but I failed at the masking, and got the layout wrong anyway.  On the British Gas CF I pretty much got the layout right but again, my masking wasn't so good.  I need to build up some more confidence to tackle them again (but now they're in my head, it will happen) so this CF is going in a 70s custom direction.  I don't know yet which way I'm going to take the Transit.

A couple of Tickfords that have passed through.

From Biante of Australia is the 1999 Series 1 TS 50.

DSCF0698.JPG.536158eb43927f0bd504a5de57d40383.JPG

Biante models are quite rare in the UK.

DSCF0696.JPG.eca91286c29e5dce7429da3922a1c214.JPG

The detail is not to bad for a sort of middle range diecast, very much on the IXO and Minichamps level.

DSCF0697.JPG.b8b396b07d00d36ca5b525bc51eb0112.JPG

In the same packaging as the @AndyW201 Focus is this Tickford Capri.

DSCF0520.JPG.4143174945da9addc8e95e5c1099b11f.JPG

This is a resin cast by Spark. Has some great detailing but also has had a slight wheel to tyre reaction.

The big Asda in Ipswich has some funky HWs display with illuminated signage. But still nothing too exciting in it whenever I've looked....

Ive never seen this one in this part of the world before. Only place I could get one was from South America!
Very nice model of an E21 though. Great colour too, very ‘of its time!’

Issue number 113 if anyone’s interested. I need a complete list of all these as I still think there’s a good number I’ve never seen before.
