Nothing in Tesco. Fuck all. I’m going to write to my MP about this.

Your MP possibly has a hush-hush arrangement with the store manager, and is buying boxes of mainline singles out the back door to flog individually on eBay.

Full public enquiry NOW.

Plan of attack now, hit the Tesco in Dinnington on the 22nd when I’m assured by the note on the shelf is getting a delivery Saturday 22nd. If that fails I’ll go to the Chesterfield one which usually turns up trumps. If that fails I’m going to have to start taking hostages.

Personally, I'm getting a little rattled that Charlie-boy was seen sniffing round the market only a few miles away today...

If he decides to extend the visit so he can nip to St George's on Friday, and then assume that he's got first dibs on the £2 EFE buses and that scratched-up Corgi Pacer due to Royal Prerogative, he'll have to go through me...

"...is that really one's best price on the Lone Star Firenza? One is led to believe one can find them cheaper on-line..."

I want a full range of Matchbox 2021 case B, a helicopter and some Thatchers Gold or I’m going to start stamping on the Hot Wheels.

Does the MR2 have flip-up headlights? Just noticing that they seem to be raised on the unboxed example that @Split_Pin posted, but they're flush to the bonnet on mine.

My Brother got jammy at our local Tesco's. He brought both versions without realising till he got home!

He kindly also brought me the only other remaining MR2 and the Chevy, 500 & Holden. Result!

I also managed to get myself a HW RX7 from my local Home Bargains. Wasn't much else to choose from though. But pleased to add this one to my growing HW collection.

Edit: If anyone wants a MB Fiat 500 or a Black Mazda MX-5, my Brother has some going spare.

Need to get provisions on my way home from work tonight so may swing by the local Tesco's. Not expecting owt though...

Well, as predicted, bugger all apart from a couple of the Cadillacs and Caprices. No MR2, Holden ute or CLA wagon, which I was hoping for.

Ah well...

I'm after the MR2s if anyone manages to pick up any extras please. Nowt in my local Tesco (Southend A127).

Got these thoughIMG20210519134007.thumb.jpg.687a649e7d3de2a529bacae02cf332a2.jpg

@AndyW201: Holden and CLA in my branch, want me to pick them up for you in the morning?

If I can score an MR2 or two, or three, I will....

I'm just going to console myself as only getting the priapic version of the MR2 light units.

I might just paint the headlight tips in Tat Wednesday helmet red.   Might not.

I had a couple of hours spare so rushed around like a madman trying all the usual suspects. Found this in Entertainer

I'll have to get the hairdryer on it later

Now - I'm not especially into monster trucks, but I do like VWs, and I think a bit of wee came out in Asda when I found this, there just aren't any in the UK it seems. The previous blue version seems to have missed us entirely

You want one? £3.50, delivery at some point in the distant future!

I got over-excited and ordered one online. Just the Herbie version of the Beetle to find now - until they release something else.

That's very good of you Eddy, yes please, if you're passing, and yes, if you spot an MR2 and a Mini-Cooper, so much the better!

Instead of relying on bits of wood and old tins I’m going to fashion a spray booth for my restorations. Anyone built one before?

Posted

I just use a cardboard box tilted on its side. I chuck an old sheet over the 1/1  car in the garage and spray on my workbench.

I have various bits of wood that fit up inside the body of the model to raise them off the ground for spraying. I have a turntable somewhere at Parents_Pin which Mutha_pin used to use when working on pottery many decades ago.

Posted

I just put mine in one of those helping hand things and hold that. I do all my painting outside or at least in the doorway of the outhouse, I have got a couple of high power fans I can use as extractors if I decide to build a booth, but I find holding the casting allows me to get paint under the wheel arches and inside where it's often visible

Only new things in Tesco are the Porsches. Think the problem is they only put stock out when the pegs are empty - but they won't be as no-one's buying the peg warmers

Hot on the heels of the blue Dinky Beetle(s) I found recently, I grabbed a later 1970s version

Now I'm not 100% up to speed on the kit versions of these Dinkys, but I'm pretty sure this was supplied as one going by the paint finish and blobs on the base and inside the glass. No evidence of any other colour inside either.

20210520_162221.thumb.jpg.c9d987b770999a1b1e77bcaae44cd410.jpg

As it screws together, the excess paint is easy to remove, and I fitted the axles back under the springs too. Even the deck lid stays closed now for the most part

There's also nothing to stop me repainting it, maybe I'll even crack open the Humbrol for correctness.

Also noticed the bases and bodies are different, red one is retained by a screw and a lip on the body, blue is held by three rivets with no lip present

Great find, and nice to have the side-by-side comparison!

I think your speedwheel version is indeed Dinky Kit #1003:

Sympathetic restoration (with less paint on the base and glazing) sounds like a good way forward.

Do you know if it's a rule that the kits are screwed together and the packaged cars are riveted? My Dinky Transits and MK1s are all screw on bases.

I also think this is the first time I've put a lowered car back to stock height, rather than the other way!

I don't think it's a hard and fast rule - what I think happened is that some formerly riveted packaged cars (like your Beetle) were re-engineered to accept screw fastenings, and from that point on both the assembled and kit versions were screwed together.

All three versions of the police Transits from last year were screwed together, and they were all factory painted; but then I think the #288 Cadillac Superior Ambulance was screwed together, and as far as I know it was never offered in kit format. The Princess and Volvo 265 were held together with rivets, mind...

I'll have a look through my Great Book of Dinky later on, though I think it's a bit crap at giving this sort of detail.

That's no problem, we will know by then if I have grabbed a Mini.

Who else wants a closed-headlight MR2?  @DoctorRetro? @bunglebus?

I also have one each of the MGB GT, Polizei Golf, and W123 estate available, if anyone missed out before.
