Shitefest 2012 - 14th July - PARTY TIME!

Probably like many on here, I get involved quite heavily with a one make club that caters for my cars. Lots of the time this provides me with a great deal of enjoyment.

HOWEVER, as well as Lancia, I have a passion for CARS. Just the sort of cars that we are talking about here on Autoshite and sharing pics of. We all drool over what others have, and all fancy sitting in, touching, feeling cars that we fantasize about.

So, do you ever (have you ever?) had an Autoshite get together (or is the point of a forum like this that it all remains virtual??).

If it is of interest, I would be very, very happy to host. What is going through my mind is something like a Saturday lunchtime onwards, into and then through the evening type BBQ. Everyone brings a bottle or two, something to throw into a food pile to be cooked on the BBQ, and to cover peripherary items (rolls, salads sauces etc) plus the hire of a portaloo a nominal £5 contribution to the fund.

I'm in Wiltshire, about a mile from Castle Combe. 4 miles off M4 J17 and 8 miles from J18.

I have parking in the field for 40 to 50 cars (possibly more) and there is space too if people want to camp over.

Anyhow. Just a thought. Could be fun (or a commplete disaster if everyone gets drunk, and arguements start about the shitest car of the day).

Let me know your views.

EDIT:

Right - finalised details as follows:

Date: Saturday 14th July 2012 flowing seamlessly into Sunday 15 July

Location: Wiltshire, UK, 3 miles west of Chippenham, between J17 and J18 of M4, about a mile and a half away from Castle Combe circuit

Arrival - Saturday early afternoon (from 1pm)

Departure ........ Sunday AM for those brave enough to stay over - and we'll head off en-mass to the Attwell Wilson Motor Museum in Calne.

Space available to pitch tent or park caravans, I'll hire some porta-loos, but please note that there is no mains water in the field (there is water for washing cars etc, but not drinking water)

FOOD:

We'll get the BBQ going mid / late afternoon on the Saturday - probably about 3.30 to 4pm, and from then onwards we will just keep it ticking over for the duration of the day. Included in the gate charge will be all your food and soft drink. (Selection of burgers, sausages, chicken, rolls, sausages, salads, cheeses, cakes, crisps, fizzy pops, tea, coffee, water, chips..... etc etc. I don't expect anyone to starve)

What you need to bring:

Yourselves, your Autoshite, any autoshite-jumble you want to sell, and MOST importantly... copious amounts of alcohol to go into the pile for all to share.

Cost:

Gate charge of £10 per car including driver. (Additional passengers: Adults £5, Kids £2.50) Why is there a charge?? To cover the cost of hiring a couple of porta-loos, to cover the bbq gas, the food, Shite prizes and giving my neighbour something for using their part of the field! I hope you all feel that cost structure is a fair one?

How to book:

No specific booking required, but just so I can effectively cater, if your name is on the definate list (page 8 of this thread) then please let me know by 10 July if you are unable to make it. If you are on the maybe list, or haven't decided yet, please let me know by 10th July of your intention. However, saying that, if you turn up on the day, you won't be turned away. As this is an honourable forum, I'll take payment on the gate, so you don't have to pay in advance!

How to find out exact location details:

I'll PM all confirmed attendees with postcode and directions on 11 & 12 July.

PRIZES:

Best / worst pieces of Shite. Best Lancia Gamma of the day (I have high hopes for that one!!) best tent / caravan. Best contribution to the alcohol stock pile..... the list could be endless!

I think that is most of the detail covered.... let me know if i have forgotten anything!

I start off with a HELL YEAH :)

Field, beer, bbq and shite sounds an immense way to spend the weekend - Roll on the warm weather!

I'd be up for that as well, We had a meet back in September 2010 at Stonton Transport Museum which was a good day. http://www.flickr.com/photos/triggersca ... 914986851/

We've spoke about having another meet a few times since but nothing materialised, the idea of standing in a field, drinking cheap whiskey and looking at shite cars is very appealing though.

Ah this sounds like a great idea, wish I could come to something like this.

I can just imagine it, members of this forum stripped to the waist and pissed up on Spar Cider demanding a 'duel' over what was the best Montego trim option.

Posted

That sounds superb! have to say your collection elevates the experience to visiting a lancia shrine, top idea

Posted

I don't drink, but apart from that it sounds like a SUPERB idea. The Field of Utter Shite. Cor.

Posted

Very decent of you to offer! I'm game too, not least because of the potential for cooing over Betas, Gammas and a 1500 Delta 8)

Posted

Sounds quite good. I'd be be up for camping I think!

Ditto!* Can we have it in the autumn please? I'll find a way to get there from Barrow, have no fear!

Actually, as I was about to post the above, I suddenly thought: it might even be possible to combine the day with a shite-collection! I'll be looking for cars the moment I arrive ( I already am, and we don't even have a date yet!) so if I buy something "blind" in the right general area someone could maybe pick me up and we could convoy back. Now THAT sounds like a true Autoshite day trip! Hell yeah, bring it on!

*So you won't be the only one drinking Pepsi...

Posted

Ooh yeah definitely, what an absolute gent you are! Wiltshire's a fair trek for me but worth it to drool over all those Lancias. Count me in - I'll turn it into a mini-break and do a bit of tootling around in the old Datsun!!

Posted

Sounds like a good idea! But it would have to be in the spring/summer months, I'd be up for it :D

Posted

Well, this looks like it could be a goer then .... and as a thought on the side, possibly a trip to the Attwell-Wilson Motor(shite) museum in Calne first .......

Will look at dates in late spring / summer and get back with some options shortly.

Well, there's no Glastonbury this year...

Nicola wants a proper holiday this year. I'm sure she'd be up for a camping shitefest in the West Country, after Really Enjoying* the Jaywick meet....

Posted

Hell yes!

I'll need to book the day off work so lets start banding some dates about

Posted

I'm quite excited by this, I'm even on ebay looking for a new tent (My last one died a zip related death at Billing last year, wanky old Halford tents).

Posted

That's a big defo for me too!

Although since the great Mazda/Transit debacle (really really still stings - big mistakes made), I'm well skint and vehicle-less. SO. I shall be speaking to Volksy and Hillman Imp about picking me up on the way, as I'm pretty damn sure they'll be up fer this too. :)

Posted

Can we have 'Ubu Dance Party' on a continuous loop?

Posted

that's not too bad from Ruislip, and sometimes I have to go to Bristol on business anyway

Posted

I'm up for this. Any excuse to have a nice long drive in the Simca.

I'm sure m'colleague Mr E Leyland would be keen to put in an appearance too......

Posted

I am deffo up for this and for camping overnight at it.

Camping in the presence of a load of old Lanica saloons, what could possibly be better.

April onwards would be good.

This would spur me on to get a new shite vehicle especially for the occasion, its been ages.

Can I request/bring own hardstanding for the TR? In the interests of collecting the oil/various mechanical parts that fall off and refilling/fitting as necessary.

Assuming it'll get there* of course :-)

* Not missed a beat in 300 odd miles of driving, except for exhaust backbox exploding at a junction
