They're not ROstyles. They're "Tinilites"

In 20+ years of fucking about with old Fords that is the only time I've ever heard 'em called Tinilites.

Ah well, learn something new, etc.

Hmmm...would the blue Fiat actually be a Polski Fiat? The Fiat 125 wasn't sold in the UK after 1972, which is what it looks like and I think Polski Fiat started selling cars this side of the iron curtain in 1975. :)

Yes. I would agree entirely. And if the Triumph is a Dolomite, it must be the 1300; can't see how old it is, but there was a changeover point (about 1978?) when the Toledo was renamed Dolomite 1300. Pretty sure none of the other models used those headlights.

Here's a 1500 with them - although I think this may have been a run-out parts bin special...

I noticed that too. I bet VLL83G was the Valiant's 'proper' registration mark.

Excellent thread Trigger, cheers. The shots of the Triumph and the Allegro cop cars leaning heavily under cornering are great, you don't get that so much these days!

that screen grab is from the Tom Bell series 'Out" (Thames Television 1979)

Superb series, one of Tom Bell's finest performances IMO. £7.99 from Amazon at the moment and worth every penny.

Was the Chrysler Valiant actually ever sold here?

Yup. I do believe so. Aussie Chryslers were available until 76ish.

Still in 1978.

The series is a bit before my time but when I'm up at the folks and I'm watching TV with my Dad (if he's not watching the football) we watch this, the Sweeney or Minder :)

The Mk3 Cortina looks more like a Taunus to me.

Posted

Agreed, Warren. Which makes it an even better grab! How many times are we going to see a Taunus in a UK show? Back then, these cars were, well, at least as exotic as they are now and much, much more so than, say, a BMW now. You'd certainly believe in the bad guys using them.

Posted

I read somewhere that an enthusiast spent years tracking down the Cowley Granada and when he finally found the last owner he discovered it had been sent over the bridge a fortnight earlier!

Posted

Trig, the car chasing the Rekord isnt a Cortina Mk3, Its a Taunus.

Trig, this is a Series 2 or 2a Land Rover, appears to be a genuine ex MOD vehicle, made between March 1958 and early 1965. Otherwise known as a Rover 8 or 9, possibly with a FFR (Fitted for Radio) Suffix. This should be 12 or 24V Negative earth, even though standard line built civvy spec motors were 12V Positive earth. I'm going to stick my neck out and say it's a 1963-1965 12V.... unable to tell from here if it's a 88 or 109 though.... chassis number will start with 241 or 251, and end with a B or a C. Am I an anorak?
