Inspector Morose Posted June 7, 2017 Posted June 7, 2017 Very late build Eastern Coach Works bodied Bristol VR. Judging by the hopper vents, it was one of the last built but as the body was pretty standard across many fleets around the country, it could have originally come from a number of places. Quite probably Gardner 6LXB engine but there were a small number built with the 6LXC or even Leyland 680 engine around that time.Built around 1979-81. Six-cylinder, Justin Case and Nicola H 3
Inspector Morose Posted June 7, 2017 Posted June 7, 2017 appears to be a late ECW bodied Bristol VR ... ( late due to the design of the sidelight/ indicator )BMAC fetishist. cobblers and rml2345 2
rml2345 Posted June 7, 2017 Posted June 7, 2017 I think only the last couple of years had square BMACs. Unfortunately that doesn't narrow it down much as they were still being ordered in large numbers.
Felly Magic Posted June 7, 2017 Author Posted June 7, 2017 I've checked Rob Sly's site, and nowt's come up on it, the only late model VR that is a school library on there is ENOC STW30W, and that is red and has a BMAC PAYE sign on the front, there is a green VR in use as the same, but that is an earlier former Maidstone example and is 14ft 6
Felly Magic Posted June 7, 2017 Author Posted June 7, 2017 I think it may be this un : http://bcv.robsly.com/snv933w.html, last known in 2016 Dick Cheeseburger and cobblers 2
quicksilver Posted June 7, 2017 Posted June 7, 2017 SNV 933W is my best guess too. It disappeared from Koncept Travel's yard at Great Horwood (not a million miles away from the field of dreams) and hasn't been traced further. The destination blind with Soulbury and Stoke Hammond on it looks like a Luton & District one. Six-cylinder 1
Six-cylinder Posted June 7, 2017 Posted June 7, 2017 http://www.miltonkeynes.co.uk/news/tesco-express-woburn-sands-gives-swallowfield-lower-school-bus-library-scheme-1-000-1-6025102 https://www.facebook.com/BBC3CR/videos/1062917723725605/
Felly Magic Posted June 7, 2017 Author Posted June 7, 2017 That picture confirms my guess, as it was pretty much in that condition when last snapped for Rob Sly's website. He may be worth emailing with a copy of that photo in it's new guise And this link 100% confirms it as the reg number is in shot http://swallowfieldlowerschool.co.uk/library-bus-vandalism-three-counties-radio/
Felly Magic Posted June 8, 2017 Author Posted June 8, 2017 I've been in touch with Rob Sly of the BCV website, and he's going to update his website, he'd wondered where it vanished to, thanks Mrs 6C for spotting it. Six-cylinder 1
RoadworkUK Posted June 8, 2017 Posted June 8, 2017 STW30W, and that is red and has a BMAC PAYE sign on the front. That was one of my old school buses in the early 90s. Hedingham Omnibuses contract route 15. Six-cylinder 1
CreepingJesus Posted June 11, 2017 Posted June 11, 2017 Spotted yesterday at Harthill: Czech reg'd something. Fair to assume it's a Tatra? Couldn't see badges on it. Supernaut and strangeangel 2
martc Posted June 11, 2017 Posted June 11, 2017 It may be a Karosa; I'll stick my neck out further and suggest it's from the 700 series. The really cool Czech buses are the Skoda 706's... CreepingJesus and tooSavvy 2
Felly Magic Posted June 11, 2017 Author Posted June 11, 2017 Looks a bit like that Merc 0,303 clone that Ensignbus tried flogging in the 1980s, FAP Famos or summat like that, with a higher roof fitted
Guest Hooli Posted June 11, 2017 Posted June 11, 2017 I enjoy this thread, it proves there are people sadder than me about
Vantman Posted June 14, 2017 Posted June 14, 2017 The Royal Blue Run,this coming weekend. This is well out of my area but may be of interest if any of you are anywhere near any of the routes this weekend. http://www.tvagwot.org.uk/event-royalblue2017.htm
Asimo Posted June 14, 2017 Posted June 14, 2017 This is an important question - what's the truth about bus vibes? From the questions thread.
Felly Magic Posted June 14, 2017 Author Posted June 14, 2017 Sometimes the tick over is set too low, especially on modern ADL plastic tat, up the rpms a tad and they are fine tooSavvy 1
Roverageous Posted June 14, 2017 Posted June 14, 2017 A lot of buses sound like they are 4-bangers now too? Sent from my Pixel using Tapatalk
Felly Magic Posted June 14, 2017 Author Posted June 14, 2017 Yup most new buses are 4 pots, even double deckers!
Guest Hooli Posted June 14, 2017 Posted June 14, 2017 This is an important question - what's the truth about bus vibes? Picture 10.png From the questions thread. The average maintenance over the life of a bus is a bit less than the average school run MPV gets. At least that's how they seem when you drive them, so it's no surprise they are falling apart & rattling.
Felly Magic Posted June 16, 2017 Author Posted June 16, 2017 Buses get checked over every 4-6 weeks by law, but things only get fixed when they go bang or fall off. There was a Dart where I used to work that would hunt between gears, fuck all was done until it wouldn't change to 2nd. Had to limp it round a housing estate at 15 mph with the revs bouncing. Fitter bodged it so it was a semi auto. I was following in the van when the box decided to go in to first at 50, was one hell of a scream from the engine, but somehow the fitter stopped it from going BANG

Yoss Posted June 18, 2017 Posted June 18, 2017 From the days when an ex Nottingham bus was instantly recognisable whatever colour it may have been subsequently painted (not the National obviously). I remember Maidstone Boroline were running some of these on the 188 in London painted blue/yellow/grey if I remember rightly. It was the very early days of LT tendering when anything went as long as it was the cheapest bidder. Grey Green Ailsas and some really ropey DMSs run by Cityrama on the 196 round Norwood also spring to mind. Not the best time as far as quality of service was concerned but it was interesting from a cranks point of view.
Yoss Posted June 18, 2017 Posted June 18, 2017 The Royal Blue Run,this coming weekend. This is well out of my area but may be of interest if any of you are anywhere near any of the routes this weekend. http://www.tvagwot.org.uk/event-royalblue2017.htmThis came past me on Friday evening. We were in restaurant in London Road, Southampton. First two Royal Blues and an East Kent coach. Front one was an RE or MW coach, not sure which (I know the difference technically but they look very similar). Then a couple more Royal Blues came past which is when I thought I ought to Google it. Saw about ten coaches in the end. Certainly livened up the meal, though I'm not sure Mrs Yoss thought so every time I said "there's another one". This is one hell of a road run.Day two looked best.
