I think we need a thread for old films that are rammed full of watchable chod.

What are your nominations for a good movie to watch with a few beers and the DVLA vehicle check website on standby?

The Whistle Blower

The Long Good Friday

Mad Max 1, Mad Max 2.

Film and television right? I find Inspector Morse absolutely superb. Sod his Jag, Vauxhall Senator Cop wagons!! I'll also nominate Frost with David Jason. A copper who dreams of driving around in a dreary Sierra L. Excellent.

If it's films with cars in, there's a blinder with Walter Matthau. Hopscotch.

Ok, it's not a blinder, but there's a load of random chod going on.

Harold and Maude. Just for the e-type.

Dirty Mary, Crazy Larry. Because it sounds like a porno. Then again, Harold and Maude might if you're into that kinda thing.

The Getaway. No Eurochod, but a good film.

Getaway211.JPG

The World's Fastest Indian. Because it's brilliant.

The original TAXI, Frog edition.

Peugeot 406 (in suspiciously BTCCesque tune) Vs 2xW124 500Es. Best in Dolby Surround, sounds very good indeed.

Also The Fourth Protocol. I'll stop going on about it one day.

Lots of lovely English and French chod/classics and a decent film to boot.

Plus one about the Fourth Protocol BTW.

It's not a full feature but I was a great fan of the original and this parody of the 5th element with French overtones is short and funny with old French chod

Carry On Cabby

Carry On Behind (+ most other Carry Ons tbh)

On The Buses

Johnny English

Charley Varrick

Doctor... series, featuring James Robertson Justice as Sir Lancelot Sprat :D . Can't remember which it is, but one opens with the titles over him driving in to work in his 1954 Silver Wraith, tracked all the way in one whole shot IIRC. (Edit: might be Doctor In Love, but don't quote me!)

The Ladykillers (and many other Ealing comedies)

The Italian Job (the proper one)

The Sweeney movies, obviously

American Graffiti (2CV and Beetle action among all the real cars!)

I call that a good night in. Hell, there's enough for a weekend in that lot!

Mental. I've been wanting to see that again for years after a random late night TV encounter a while ago. Couldn't remember the name of it, someone managed to figure out what I was on about from a very loose description I posted on my facebook (I think it was someone off here, actually) but you can only get a really expensive region 1 DVD so I still haven't seen it again. That's the first time I've ever heard anyone mention that film, ever, so nice work!

Anyway, I just watched Gattaca which was brilliant, and despite being set in the future everyone drives around in 1960s motors (albeit converted to run on electricity). The police have a fleet of US-spec P6s with oddly attractive smoothed bootlids. Yum!

Part of it was filmed in Southport! I remember walking into town to sign on (winter of 1982) and seeing all these vans parked down one of the extremely posh side roads near Royal Birkdale Golf Club. They were filming exteriors of the Tudor-styled house next door to Tom O'Connor's*. If you look carefully, when Peter Coyote is sneaking round the back of the house, you can just see the top of one of the film company trucks, over the neighbouring garden... I worked on the fairground where many scenes were filmed! They were cut with some from Blackpool too (artistic licence?) and every time I watch, it's fun spotting the joins.

*Shite namedropping, Bill Tidy and Berni Flint also lived nearby, Kenny Dalgleish still does.

Not really a film but there has been some interesting cars on Last of the Summer Wine. Particularly some of Barry's cars in the 80's and early 90's before he went all sensible: Mark 2 Escort, Landcrab, Maxi, Talbot Samba. Wesley of course with his dubious mechanical skills and his old Land Rovers (rather like mine)! The police patrolling in a 1300cc Mark 1 Cavalier!

BAFTA? Nah, I can't be arsed with BL chod.

A GR11 film full of all sorts of chod is the 1976 L'Alpagueur (translated as "hunter will get you") starring J.P. Belmondo. The link says it all:

http://www.imcdb.org/movie.php?id=74123

Belmondo's other films are also good for this kind of thing, lots of car chases and street scenes. 1981 Le Professionel (the translation for that was easy enough!) boasts lots of car stuff in addition to the EPIC music of Ennio Morricone that it's mostly famous for.
