barefoot Posted November 1, 2011 Posted November 1, 2011 This morning I appear to have come across the Autoshite Holy Grail. What appears to be a shite dealership. All I know about this place is from a passing bloke, who said it's been like this for years, it was apparently going to be flattened & built on, but then someone else bought the garage, he thought the cars were all for sale. And best of all, there's even a phone number! I don't know if the number works or anything else really.I've not put the address up because I don't know if that's the correct form.
mk1_4dr Posted November 1, 2011 Posted November 1, 2011 Are these pictures that you have taken? Im sure someone was asking about this place recently, so its nice to see some up to date snaps if thats what these are....
Pete-M Posted November 1, 2011 Posted November 1, 2011 I'm sure there have been three or four threads on 'ere about this place, but none for quite some time. Cool pics though.
barefoot Posted November 1, 2011 Author Posted November 1, 2011 Taken this morning, I didn't know it had been on before.
Conrad D. Conelrad Posted November 1, 2011 Posted November 1, 2011 I think it's good to have regular reminders this place still exists and new pictures. Hopefully it outlasts us all.
barefoot Posted November 1, 2011 Author Posted November 1, 2011 I phoned the bloke up.Apparently everything is for sale.I asked about the Maestro - it owes him £900, but he'll take £600.There's some story about his wife dying & his mother dying.Anyway its on Castle Road in Castle Gresley just next to the Miners ArmsGoogle street-view will find it for you.
Lufthansa-Terminal Posted November 1, 2011 Posted November 1, 2011 This was thrown up on another forum and the phonenumber worked!. Old boy had the site and semi retired but the motors were all still for sale at their 1990's prices
trigger Posted November 1, 2011 Posted November 1, 2011 Rootes_Arrow took a load of photos of this place a few years ago, It hasn't changed much but i believe a few of the cars have sold.
Lufthansa-Terminal Posted November 1, 2011 Posted November 1, 2011 Thanks for that Trigger I suppose you dont have a link for a newbie who would like to see them? It was a while ago I know but if you dont ask you dont get.
trigger Posted November 1, 2011 Posted November 1, 2011 Here we go! http://www.flickr.com/photos/leicester- ... 783196503/
DSdriver Posted November 1, 2011 Posted November 1, 2011 It looks like some sort of Autoshite Zoo I was thinking more along the lines of vintage wines kept in cages.
Lufthansa-Terminal Posted November 1, 2011 Posted November 1, 2011 Thank you Trigger there is a couple of sad sights there.
Felly Magic Posted November 1, 2011 Posted November 1, 2011 That Favorit would be tempting if I had the cash. Anything there would need shedloads of re-commissioning done to them, so are all worth their scrap value only
R9UKE Posted November 1, 2011 Posted November 1, 2011 What a cool place to come across, glad you posted this as I obviously missed the previous threads. I love them all, my favourite is the 800.
mnde Posted November 1, 2011 Posted November 1, 2011 Glad to see this place still exists. I think my choice from all those pictured above would be the red Cavalier. Mark.
Felly Magic Posted November 1, 2011 Posted November 1, 2011 It would be a toss up between the Samara & Favorit...
RedSparrow Posted November 1, 2011 Posted November 1, 2011 Kind of a shame, some of these were probably saveable a few years ago. But it's kind of also nice that it's still there unvandalised.
MK5 Escort Posted November 1, 2011 Posted November 1, 2011 Absolutely stunning place, this. I remember it being discussed here (and I think Retro Rides) quite well several years back. I'm surprised, and delighted to see that it still stands pretty much as it was back then. I do have the hots for that yellow Astra, I will admit. Do you think any of them would be salvageable as actual whole, roadworthy cars today, to eventually put back on the road? Given the fact that they've been sitting there for many years, I suspect they're all low mileages and they haven't had all those additional years of salty winter roads to contend with. However, having being stood up for so long, no doubt seized mechanicals would cause some major worries. I've never actually brought a 'dead' car (i.e - sat for years untouched) back to life, so I wouldn't know how difficult it would be. It looks like some sort of Autoshite Zoo A great description. Made me chuckle, that...!
Lankytim Posted November 1, 2011 Posted November 1, 2011 That place has been like that since atleast 2001, and it looked like it had been abandoned for years even back then. There used to be a beetle and a few other "scene" cars there but they have been sold... so buying the cars IS possible! Apparently the phone number still works too (edit- as you've found out already)
Angrydicky Posted November 2, 2011 Posted November 2, 2011 That MK1 Rover 800 doesn't seem riduculous for £500, as it still looks in nice condition under the dust. In fact they all do.
garycox Posted November 4, 2011 Posted November 4, 2011 Where is this place? I'd have a go at that Metro if it was really cheap (£200 or so) I expect he'll want more than that though.
Lord Sterling Posted November 4, 2011 Posted November 4, 2011 That MK1 Rover 800 doesn't seem riduculous for £500, as it still looks in nice condition under the dust. In fact they all do. Ooh yes! I would. Came up as a Rover 820i last time I checked on the RAC. I'd love to take that on if I can just find myself another long term storage place to keep a couple of cars........... RootesArrow of this forum has visited the place as have another couple of others from here I think. I'm thinking of going up there myself soon, I really wanna see that Rover in the metal. The yellow C-reg Astra is also giving me the horns. Where is this place?. Castle Road in Castle Gresley just next to the Miners ArmsGoogle street-view will find it for you.
George-Roper Posted November 4, 2011 Posted November 4, 2011 RootesArrow Gone quiet is this another left member / casualty? That garage needs lottery funding to be kept as a museum.
barefoot Posted November 9, 2011 Author Posted November 9, 2011 It's about time I sorted myself a spotting thread, so this will do... Nipped out this morning to settle up for the Porsche service & tripped over a Vitesse for sale at the garage next door; I don't know the bloke well, I've had a swift pint with him across the road & he seems OK.£695, needs exhaust & a weld on the chassis, MOT run out but only recently, still taxed, old giffer, not messed with.Looks tidy & I think the welding will be done for the price. & there was this in his garage as well.
