This was a couple of weeks ago. I thought Regent had disappeared as a brand in the '60s.

Near Hay on Wye. Proprietor got extra points for

   a) rotting Jaguar

and

b)rushing out to tell me I was about to put petrol in the van. It is petrol but he didn't know that.

Love old petrol stations

In the late 70s early 80s I had a mate who was a crane engineer , when they broke he'd go out and fix them , credit cards weren't common then , he was out in Norfolk , saw the visa sign on a 2 pump petrol station in the middle of nowhere , guy came out filled the van up, mate goes into the booth to pay , hands the card over , old guy behind the counter looks at it for 20 seconds, says thanks and puts it in the till drawer

This was about a year ago to the day.

The shop looked like it hadn't been touched since the 1980s, and still used a carbon paper duplication machine to take card payments!

Now then here are a few more - Ilton, Somerset. A Q8 no less! Who knew they still existed. Very old pumps too!post-20279-0-38795100-1531337721_thumb.jpgpost-20279-0-38472900-1531337758_thumb.jpgpost-20279-0-47572800-1531337781_thumb.jpg

And for the crowning glory, who knew we still had a thatched station in the UK? Shitepointz for anyone who comes up with the correct location. Unleaded £1.19 a litre. Local TESCO is £1.25 a litre. I know who I'd rather buy from.....post-20279-0-42807700-1531337943_thumb.jpg

Anyway, my work is done here I think - never going to find one to beat that! The owner told me that the last hand cranked pump was at Ilminster and decomissioned in 2003 is anyone was wondering......

I'll offer up this fuel pump in Buckingham instead, which IIRC is used to serve up red diesel...

Edited 12-Jul-18: Yes! Six-cylinder bought 50 litres of the stuff today, from this very pump, for this weekend's AS gathering at the FoD...

*I think DW's Nippa may have had a dealer sticker from here, and it was mentioned around the time this thread last surfaced.

This used to be a place you could buy fuel, so I'd like to share it with you here, even though probably it ought to go into an Architecture thread... Manor Road Garage, East Preston...

That's my nearest LPG station and second nearest filling station. My nearest still insist on an attended service and have wacky racers on the roof. I give you the CGP pitstop, Broughton in Furness.post-577-0-18096900-1531469519_thumb.jpg

The second one, in Battle High street was a tiny Ford main agent until not so long ago. One of those ones that seemingly used to be present in every British town with a population of more than about twenty. Not sure when Ford pulled out but it was recently enough to have a late shape (2012ish on) Fiesta in the showroom. The oval 'Stiles' sign is just slapped over the Ford signage.

As quite a few AS members are heading for the FotU this weekend, they might like to visit Buckingham's central petrol station: Ganderton's.

post-22262-0-82917200-1531481736_thumb.png

There are some interesting old cars and motorcycles in the little showroom, including a Suzuki Whizzkid and a Lancia Fulvia.

The best feature though is that Ganderton's sells real, leaded 4 star. It's not cheap - I think it was about £1.85/litre when I last used it - but for a car that doesn't too many miles per year, the extra cost for filling the tank is probably reasonable relative to the time and cost of dealing with the valve seats...

It's attended service as well - a nice old-fashioned experience.
