r.welfare
405 TD estate is my stock answer to this question - should cover both criteria! If not, how about a bubble Micra for the cheap-to-run bit and a Primera for the long-distance bit?

Mr_Bo11ox
That focus is great! I like the saloon ones, theyve got real shite credibility, and a 2.0 Ghia ones's got to be pretty zippy.
Albert Ross
Thing is, I'm looking for one myself, as a keeper, but it's too far for a view, so let you know as it might be right up your street. I'm on my 2nd Focus. 1st was an X plate 1.8 petrol Ghia estate, current is a 2006 1.6 toyed up Ghia with Leather and park sensors etc! Good motors, never been so impressed with a FWD ride and handling.
MrRegieRitmo
so let you know as it might be right up your street.I doubt it is, the Focus is in Wales but whitevanman is in Scotland!
Richard
I like the shape of the Focus saloon and would choose one over a hatch.
Albert Ross
Yeah, but very North Wales. You never know at that price........
r.welfare
405 TD estate is my stock answer to this questionThought that went the way of the'bay?Yup (well, a bloke on R-R offered me a fair price so I pulled it once I had the readies), but there are others out there...plus I'm a long long way from Scotchland.Mk1 Focus saloon has got to be a good bargain, ungainly styling but when it drives so well - and costs so little - who cares? mk2_craig
How bizarre that they were still knocking out Muntegoes in 1996! Almost as bizarre as the fact that DVLA registered that one as an Austin for some reason.
MrRegieRitmo
What should it have been?
whitevanman
confusion alert......I've always refered to Montegos as montenegro and Mandingos are Mondeo, hence a mk1 on a P plate.though I do know where there is a Montego herse
AnthonyG
Some Montegos were produced for the MOD at the time production ceased, perhaps these were never used or registered until they were released for public sale in the later 90s. There used to be a R reg taxi in Cardigan until it got written off. Montego production ceased in 94 or 95, some registered on N plates, there is a white N reg saloon still going strong round here. I think all these late ones were diesels.Maestros kept on being registered well into this decade due to various sets of CKD kits (orginally for export to a factory in Bulgaria) being built up and sold in the UK..newest is a 51 reg, I thknk. wuvvum
My dad had a brand new Montego TD estate as a company car in 1994. It was called a GTD, and it was basically a Countryman with steel wheels. It did have aircon though - the only Montego I've ever seen to be thus equipped. CortinaDave
That P reg montego is in fantastically crappy condition. I want to own it.
