New shite aquired - Cavalier SRI

Recommended Posts

Bought this beast yesterday off a lad I know.

8 months MOT, NO RUST OR ROT AT ALL!! - only the paintwork on the wings letting it down.

One of the last ones too on an N reg (registered Aug 1995).

I don't need another motor but got it pretty cheap, the lad got fed up as somone tried to nick it last week and damaged the door (can be fixed) and stearing column (which he has already fixed).

anyone else have/had one of these, or love/hate them?

You are indeed a winner of the highest magnitude! Don't need to comment about how ace these cars are.

Got to be an Ecotec on that reg? It'll stand that mileage and loads more no danger with basic maintenance. Just let me know first please if/when you come to offload it.

Nice old Cav' 8)

Billy said don't sell it to him, sell it to me AND he will put me on his insurance

Hope you have many months of SRI happy motoring

Wish I could get others on my insurance Mark but it'll cost me a bomb. Fingers crossed Rib finds another car very soon and sends me a pm about the Cavalier!

well, I got the Cav purely by chance really.

saw a lad I know at a Carboot sale last week and he mentioned the Cavalier. Too good an opportunity to turn down. Ive never owned one before but a mate of mine had one about 10 years ago, really tidy motor - sadly some scumbag nicked it and wrecked it.

Now the Polo will have to go. Needs a bit of work doing first, but ill stick it up on here when its ready for sale.

That looks very nice, I quite rate these later Cavaliers with the Ecotec engine, they go like shit as well, I helped sell one for my sister in law a few years ago after her ex boyfriend left the car after they split up (she paid for it so she kept it even though she couldn't drive at the time), that was a very tidy 1995 SRi 4-door.

That one wouldn't run though and had no mot so it sold for £300 on ebay, it turned out to be just a crank sensor.

These rock. My mate has had one since 1995 and its been brilliant He's crashed it too. You can't kill that thing. For a four door hatch it has brilliant grip. At the time he got it I had a Jap import MR2 turbo and I couldn't shake him off. Top find sir.

Nice car Retrolad. I too rate these Cavaliers very highly, never owned one though, my cousin did have a 1.6 early G-reg Cavalier, it was offered to me first but I had nothing in the way of money so he had it instead.

One day..........

That's a good buy to me though im biased as i own a cavalier, would like a sri myself at some point. I've got a 1993 L reg 1.8 LS hatch looks like yours is the same colour as mine, nautilus blue. I've always thought it was more green myself. My friend has x3 vauxhall astra mk3 sport's with the 2.0 16v ecotec fitted to them an there good engine's as long as you service them i.e regular oil changes. There not the eco-recks that the chavs on mig web etc make out they are an half of them don't rate the engine cus omg not a redtop muppets. Not there is anything wrong with them engine's etheir.

I've had my cavalier just over 3 year's now an over 40,000 miles. So learn't alot on some of the common fault's they suffer.

The one's i've had are:

Radiator due to a fail in the side casing on mine causing the loss of most the antifreeze.

Petrol tank rusting out. [ Found out after i'd filled the tank. ]

Inside the front wheel arches they rot out behind the road wheel. [inside out rot i think it's due to a watertrap caused by the sunroof drain pipes. ]

Check underneath the rear bumper and behind the rear road wheels in the corner of the bootfloor.

Sill's an arch rust. Had a new n/s sill last year as there wasn't one left! An my arches want replacing at some point.

Though my car to be fair was pretty neglected when i brought it an was an ex builders car so took me a while to make it tidy again.

I've replaced the interior with the same one as your car though they aren't perfect but alot better than what was orignally in there.

An mine has the older 1.8 ohc as fitted to the mk2 cavalier's. Which i had to replace my engine due to the fact there was no oil pressure.

Caused by the previous owner never servcing it for 3 years. So replaced it with another engine for £80 from a scrapyard.

Though i drove round for 3 months on the old engine as it was before sorting it out. An apart from above an the replacement engine it's been fine.

Been to wales an london a fair few times an my will sit at 90mph all day. An the boot space is excellent.

Hope i haven't put you off. There great car's and i'd recommend one to anyone if there looking for a cheap an reliable car. An there easy to maintain even for someone like me who crap with fixing cars. Plus parts are cheap an most stuff is easily avalible.

All the best with it an look forward to see some progress with it. :)

I think I Know this car! Did you buy it from Bexhill by any chance?

Looks like a local (to Rob) car that, as the 'TU' denotes Chester/surrounding areas and it looks like the Dickens (formerly Greenhous) dealer plates on it. Doesn't mean it hasn't travelled further afield of course.

Many prefer a high spec late plate Cavalier to a earlier Vectra

They're bloody awesome, well done that man!

Currently got two, G-reg 2.0SRi 8v awaiting welding and the ex Garrbaldy N-reg 1.8 8v Classic, can't fault them at all. The only thing that seems to kill them is rot, but for a comfortable, quick method of moving around they really can't be beaten.

Top work!

I like MK3 Cavaliers, as they drive really well :)

I see mention of the cavalier classic. Does my memory serve me well, were they all bellend red and povo spec but with a rare passenger airbag?

Seem to be. Front electric windows, two airbags, not hellish much else... oh how I envy those Cavalier LS drivers with the between-lights plastic filler at the back... :D

i had a cav sri many years ago...but it was the mk2 version....in silver with the red piping

That is very nice! Look motor industry at how you used to make decent cars!

Get some locking nuts on the wheels as they are popular with the Corsa-driving twaternity.

Posted

I had one of those... a 1994 Ecotec Cav SRi hatchback in white... fantastic car in all respects, a real weapon with the close-ratio f18cr gearbox.

Posted

Great cars, those Cavs; old enough to be different, new enough to use. Dead easy to fix too! Pity my last one had serious electrical gremlins, and basically dissolved under me. Good find, well done!

nah, from near Wrexham.

as Billy says, it looks like a local car.

Im happy that its totally unmolested and thats why I bought it. The ones I see about are always messed with. If I had gone there to see it and it had a massive set of silly alloys, Kenwood sticker accross the back window and lexus back lights, Id have run a mile.
