Ugly is a word often (mis)applied to 1950s American cars, but there are plenty of people all over the world who would argue that point. Surely it's better applied to some of the melted, sneering, style-avoiding lumps that are foisted on an unsuspecting public this side of the Millennium celebrations? Surely I need say no more now than "MINI Clubman"?

I think they are quite nice looking,although when they first came out,was horrified - the design grows on you,and improves with age. I used to look after a beautiful white Scorpio Ultima 2.9 'Cosworth' - absolutely stunning

I'm thinking a SUV/MPV type thing we can bung a shit load of seats in that family men will want, you know the idiot ones who think that buying a new Ssangyong is better than buying just about anything else new or secondhand from any other car maker produced in the last 20 years. I love the look of the late 'black headlamp' 24v ones. I appear to be in the minority as the number of "it's ugly innit?" comments I had when I had mine far outnumbered the "oooh" ones. Strangely enough, lots of people who said it was hideous now drive modern stuff that looks far worse.

The Scorp's late facelift, when they relocated the grille badge, darkened the lights and de-chromed the rear end, was extremely successful. If it had looked like that from the start I think it would have been a lot more successful. I believe that original grille was largely responsible for its percieved hideousity.

 

Can't agree on the odious Rodius, though. Ssangyong designs have to be repulsive, by law.

There's a Rodius in the road I work in, in the dirt on the back someone has written "Shit car". The owner obviously agrees as it's not been washed off in at least six months.

 

As for the 'looks like a hot hatch above' bit, now I look at it, it's like someone has dumped a Citroen ZX in a skip.

Having had the immense displeasure of piloting a Rodius, I nearly choked seeing it in the same sentence as the word "beautiful". Everything about them is shit. It bings for no reason every time it's started, has a built in test tube holder on the dash and parking brake release pull came off in my hand! There's also the fact that every single one of them seems to smell like Malaysian must. The Kia Magentis has many of these qualities, but is loveable shit. The Rodius just makes you question the meaning of life.
