Maxi's are a bit like a drug!

And my answer to both is: Just Say No!

But, if you like them (someone has to), then enjoy in peace. :)

That's smashing! Although I'll most likely never own one, I have a soft spot for vehicles fitted with 'those doors' i.e. the Maxi, the 'Landcrab' and the mighty Austin 3-Litre :)

GR8 4 BEE-IN TRIGGA'S AVATAR! All you need is totty in boots.

I'd rather see a bit of totty then Torsten in a pair of boots on the back!.

That last photo looks like it was taken in the 80's.

Great save by the way, does it need a lot of work?.

OMG they colour-coded the house and garage!

Now that's true Maxi devotion! 8)

Mine? It was! Summer of 86, in fact. I couldn't get rid of that thing fast enough, replaced it with a 1968 Fiat 500.

But enough of that, we're here to worship Torsten's new toy, good luck Torsten.

Yes, Louise; three!

I've just noticed, btw, that Torsten's ranking is "Austin Maxi" too. How appropriate!

Three pictures, they aren't showing on mine either. I saw them by pressing "quote" and copying the picture URLs- although I tried looking at the thread on IE just now and they are showing.

The nose-down, arse-up Maxi is truly a rare sight these days. So much more classy than the 'totally collapsed' look most of them sport after a period of lay up.

I suggest you leave the suspension exactly as it is, park it on a coucil estate and sit back and watch people in their 50s walk by and say 'I remember when they all looked like that!'

Quality! Looks pretty straight too.

Wowz. I do like that...

LOL@fotoarabica! Torsten now looks like this in my head:

Quick, 2 the Maxi!

I took my driving test in a Maxi.

it was a 1750HL with twin carbs & a wrestler gearbox

Incidentally, have you seen a book called

Why? - 25 years of the Austin Maxi

or something very similar.

I can't find a picture on the web to show you.

but it's well worth an amusing read

MY Granny had a new metallic green one in Scotland..she used to smoke in it with us kids inside...i blame them-that for my still current nicotine addiction..

What a fine motor car you have there.

Since becoming the owner of my Maxi earlier this year, I have nothing but praise for them. Pretty much the perfect car.

I was talking to Scooters about this earlier, I don't know what it is with these cars because frankly I think they are pretty ugly but for all that I just love their lines! The plan is to get it to BL Transverse, Les will do whatever's necessary to get it reliable and MOT'd, I'll tax it and flog it for around £700, it WILL look stunning and I will have lost plenty of money on it for sure but I will get such incredible satisfaction by seeing another one survive that it will be absolutely worth every penny!

The Maxi driving experience is not the greatest in the world but I always take them out to twisty Kent/Surrey/Sussex A roads and sit between 50 & 60 and they really come into their own and are enormous fun. They're comfortable and practical and full of joy without even attempting to be anything other than that, surprisingly I've found them to be pretty well engineered too.

Superb work, great to see another Maxi being rescued by you. I look forward to seeing the end product! Perhaps you should try and get a 'full house' of BL saves? I know where there is a horrendously rotten W plate Metro that could do with saving.

Posted

I tried to get that Princess that was on Retro Rides twice but missed out twice! I would like an early Metro though! In fact I want every BL / BMC model ever!

Posted

I tried to get that Prinny on RR too. A transverse six pot. Brilliant. It was a truly foul colour as well. Perfect in other words.
