Autoshite track day.

I'd quite fancy a razz around Curborough, as I've previously chatted about with Wat. Early next year should be good, considering my new employment situation will require far more forward financial planning.

As for what in, it'll be whatever pile of old toss I'm using as a daily. I'm sure we could gather enough bodies to push it out onto public roads should I require the services of the AA!

I'd be interesested depending on location/numbers/vehicles. Curborough sounds interesting, my car has been around there before I bought it.

There's a place 15 miles from me - Blyton 'Park' which may be suitably shite. Track days there usually cost £99 per car (there's one tomorrow which I may go to watch), but apparently last year it was £400 a weekday or £800 a weekend (one day presumably) to hire the track outright which isnt bad.

Count me in. I have an X1/9 that's got just enough metal poking through the rust to make her road legal. She'd be a hoot around that circuit. I could also bring the mk1 mr2 race car if anyone fancied a go in a proper auto-shite racer ;)

The Amazon is having a SORN holiday at the moment because it decided enough was enough and grew a big hole in the front floorpan, presumably to stop me arseing about. It's done Mallory, Haynes and Santa Pod. Re-engined, re-bushed and fettled, it's doing the Nurburgring.

Time to stick in a modern Volvo inline five, methinks... and what's this C4 thing you mention? A modern Citroen?

Slightly O/T but I was driving down the Washway Rd today and I thought I saw your Amazon heading towards me, I gave it a beep and flash before noticing it was on an H plate and only had two doors..... That will teach me not to put two and two together and make five.

Don't worry, classic owners generally like being recognised =)

P. S. I think you mistakenly quoted me quoting the Amazon's owner...

I take it this should take place around April time, when it's starting to warm up? We shouldn't let this fall out of attention, I think it would be a good idea, even if it just amounts to a random track day thing. If it's planned ahead of time and everyone who is meant to go pays up, it has more chance of going ahead!

We need to work out a suitable location and then approach the track owners with a good idea of how many will be attending so we can work out an exact price. It would be better to have the track to ourselves which probably means one of the smaller venues in the UK.

Does anyone know what the minimum number of cars would be for an exclusive track session?

If less than 10 are interested then we would be better off asking on Retro Rides for extra people to make up the numbers (tin hat in place) or maybe those of us who can take the time off heading to the Ring on an open day.

I don't want anyone being out of pocket over this or being put in an awkward position with any trackday companies.

I've done Blyton a few times, its a rough old track but GR8 fun. We ended up paying about £20 for the full day, a couple of the motor clubs round that area club together and do a few days.

You will kill tyres if you drive like me, (and wishbones unless they have been out recently and filled some of the holes in) It's a spectacularly shite venue, not uptight about most things like oil leaks, losing major parts and colliding with the track furniture (Because the track furniture is old tyres and pallets)

Here's a video I took when me and a mate were trying to kill a £300 106 XSi. I put it backwards into a bail, he put it into the field and later on got it beached on a tractor tyre.

My mate tests his rally car at Blyton, rates it for the fact it's just turn up and don't worry.... there's plenty of stuff going out with flappy bumpers and bits of trim gaffer taped on which wouldn't be allowed at most circuits. Track surface wouldn't be ideal for something lowered and stiff though

£500/1000 seems like good value split twenty ways.

Can we have a general show of interest please?

Posted

I'd certainly like to do it, but could only realistically do it if it was down south and totally depends on money

Posted

I would be up for it.

Would probably look for a few of my mates to chip in to buy a snorter that we can track. More fun that way.

Blyton Park looks like a suitably shite venue. Count me in.

Sounds like fun. I know several people who also own tat, as pictured below earlier this year when we took our steeds on a dyno day:

The Volvo achieved a result of 86.9 bhp ;)

It might be worth recommissioning the Scorpio for this, to thrash the frigging lot of you. 208 brake... RWD. GR8 for dying.

Posted

I'm up for this if reasonably local :D

The first time I drove a car was a brand new J reg Primera on Croft circuit, I feel its time for a glorious return in the J reg BX as 2nd time ever on a circuit

Posted

After speaking to some mates we would potentially have a couple of cars up for this :D

Posted

Count me in on this as a definite.

Can someone make out a list of yes & maybes (maybe in the first post)?

Posted

I'm up for this too. I believe Blyton is about to get resurfaced?

Is Blyton a rallycross track - rough and dusty...?

Posted

How would you guys feel about a few Duttons coming along to make up a few numbers. Everyone is always banging on about how shite they are....

I've never done a track day before so don't anticipate being that fast. As long as the resurfacing plans go ahead as most of ours are quite low with stiff suspension.

Of course we could all come in Dutton Sierras.....

This could be a case of 'our plastic shite's faster than your tin shite'

Just done a google search and came up with this rather disappointing page which says they have stopped circuit racing :(

I dont think that means anything with regards to track days, the statement is dated February 2010 and they've definitely had two track days since then.

Updating this a bit. I have sent an email to Blyton to see about costs and see whether they are still open.

I would be quite happy to sort it out if we can get numbers.

Sounds like fun, can i be added as a maybe if you're doing a list.
