Shite on TV

I did try and find the/an original/older "shite on TV" thread but the search thing won't let me search for "on TV" and adding the word shite brings up loads of results...

...anyway...

Theres a cracking drama on S4C at the mo, following two lads from 1963 to 2010 lots of recent Welsh history and lots of shite dressing the streets! What's been really refreshing is they haven't fallen into the trap of using cars from the year they are doing: one of the central characters in tonights episode- 1979, was driving a 1971 escort.

Tonight was the best for chod so far, with a dolomite, allegro and cortina IN BEIGE, various police vehicles (granny and tranny) MK2 escort and MK1 Cav taxi.

Previous episodes haven't been quite so busy but they have had an old Humber (no idea what, too early for me) a Cresta(?) a poo brown corsair, beige Marina and Morris 1000.

If you fancy it it can be found online:

press the owl symbol for english subtitles.

For some reason the link won't work, maybe because I'm not in Wales?:lol::lol:

I was watching the Boys from the black stuff eailer on BBC 4, Saw a bit of shite in that like Mk 2 Escorts, Mk 4 Cortina Estate, Bedford CF vans and so on.

Ooooooo I love Boys from the Blackstuff, and "Blackstuff"- the original play for today... theres a great Mk1 Transit chase in that.

Got the DVD box set and watch it over and over.

Next week is, I think, my favourite: "shop thy neighbour" it centers on Chrissie and he and Julie Walters have some really good arguments in it

I've never seen it before but heard a lot about it over the years, I enjoyed it though.

It is "Shop Thy Neighbour" next time, make sure you watch it! Its got an old gas van in it for added shite value (driven by sinbad from Brookie)!

My least favourite character/story is Yosser, which I think means I disagree with everyone else in the world, he seems to be the only one spoken about when the series gets mentioned.

It was on late one Saturday within the past three weeks.

George Gently last night had some good tin, 50's and 60s stuff. What was nice to see was one scene, by the playing fields at Durham had a pretty rusty Ford Pop next to all the immaculate cars - one gripe about period dramas like this is they fall down on reality by every car being mint - I know it is a difficult one to get round as the reliable ones will most likely be the well cared ones and I would be very cheesed offf if my mint P5 got trashed to make it look more 'authintic'. Seems somone understands this hence the rusty pop

Great series. That episode centering on Chrissie is one of the bleakest things I've ever seen on telly. Brilliant stuff.

Agreed, Yosser is the weakest link in it, crap character, badly acted.

There's nothing BUT shite on TV.

Oh, I get it now...

Any dole-dossers/home workers "how clean is your house" is on More4 now, at a house on Anglesey chock full of (vehicular)shite, including a car in the living room.

Nice guy, helped me out with my 2cv a couple of times.

Haha, just switched it on. His gaff has cleaned up a treat. Do you know if he managed to keep it clean long-term?

I went round in between filming and it going on air, it wasn't bad at all. He (and he has a point) wasn't massively keen on the white carpet and had unpacked a few boxes because most of his stuff had been put into storage I think... but yeah it was fine.

He had an 80's 2cv and a 50's ripple bonnet, couple of minors, westminster(?) pick-up, Austin 7 Volvo P1800(??) some kind of 80's Maserati to name but a few, quite a few bikes including a rare Honda plus he mentioned a bigger collection in a barn somewhere. Top guy, I met him in a car park he left his number an then a few weeks later when my loom burnt out he let me take what I needed off his 2cv for nowt.

Came across as a nice chap on the telly. He did come over a bit emotional a few times though, but there's nothing wrong in that I guess.

Glad to hear he's tried to keep his place relatively clean as well.

Came across P.D. James - An Unsuitable Job for a Woman last night where the young then tasty-looking Helen Baxendale drives about in a tatty Red mk2 Cavalier.

A girlfriend like her and a car like that would put a smile on my face any day.

The very old Police Stop! (As narrarated by Graham Cole) is always good for spotting old tat being driven around by early 90s joy-riders/pre-BMW Cavalier-driving salesman speeding up and down the nations Motorways, also good for spotting European yad.

Yeah thats a great show most are from around 1994/1995 so its all footage from then or before, Graham Cole (Tony Stamp from The Bill) does a good job on the voice over.

It's shown on ITV4, next on tomorrow afternoon between 5 and 6.

(although the 037s appear to be beta monte carlos) but there is a nice mix of background chod of various sorts thats authentic to the period) the main protagonist drives a Gamma

Never had an MOT?

I think some plates are reserved for TV/media use. Also is that a NI plate?

Don't think these are due to security reasons, my mate used to build this stuff he might know.

Seem to remember there's only one place in country their scrapped/cut up so that people don't get to see what makes them tick.

There very rarely sold when reach end of life.

The only reason Fred transit was able to buy the MK2 used in ashes to ashes was because it was so out of date there was nothing to be gained from it's construction.

Ditto.

Has anyone noticed the Chrysler 180 (or does the vinyl roof mean it's a 2 litre?)  on the new Paco Rabanne advert?

Yep: 2-litre with the sticky roof, IIRC.

Wonder if the ad was filmed in Spain?  They were popular there.

Seems to be LHD so possibly.
What is that in front of the diner, a Fiat 124 Coupe?
