Weekend shite plans?

What are your (*automotive only) shite plans for the weekend then?

Tomorrow: give the Vespa a run out. It's going pretty well but I think the cheap shite 2T oil I used hasn't helped.

There's an annoying rattling coming from the headstock area too, this being due to the stupidly fiddly screws that hold the top housing/speedo unit in place.

I then plan to see a mate who fitted a fag lighter to his scooter (yh rly) and see if he can put one on mine so I can use a sat nav. The speedo seems woefully inaccurate and I sort of hope a GPS system would give me a better idea of the real speed it's doing.

It pulls pretty well for a low powered engine and will do 70mph without too much bother (and there's more in reserve) but I'd like to know how fast I'm going for speed cameras etc.

Had a 45-ish mile run out last weekend on it and it's still incredibly grin inducing.

I might actually have a look at the 190E tomorrow too. Not turned so much as a wheel (never mind a piston) in ages due to suspected fuel pump knackeration. However it could be the relay so I'll try that first as easiest/cheapest option.

Pisshat needs the heater bushes doing, if my lad isn't doing anything in the afternoon I'm hoping he'll help as with the shit weather approaching the weedy fag lighter-lug-in Maplins in car heater/blower won't be much cop.

Sunday there's a local(ish) car show in Frodsham. It's been going a couple of years or so now and it's supposed to be really good. The promise of loads of various shite inc. BL chod/Yank stuff/two wheeled shite sounds interesting, but this will depend on whether I go out on the razz tomorrow night as I don't drive at all the following day if I do.

There's also a whole load of local shite that needs photographing so the potential for a (hopefully) interesting 'spotted' post is on the cards.

So, what are you doing shitewise then?

Tomorrow I be mostly fitting a new exhaust to Mrs T's Micra (I say I will be, I mean my dad will be whilst I hand him spanners whilst listening to him swear) and at 1pm I'll be collecting my new car hopefully. :D

I'll be faffing about with my rubbish old Cavalier diesel!

I think the stop solenoid on the fuel pump is being dicky and restricting fuel flow/revs so that'll be coming out for inspection/replacement.

Bleed and adjust the brakes on the Cambridge, got to try and get them to some sort of standard. Paint the floor on the A35 as I've been putting it off for months and it was too wet to do anything on it today.

Nothing needs doing on the Maestro though, what a GR8 car! It's done about 1000 miles now, including towing a trailer round Norfolk, with no problems at all.

I think I went to that show in 07 with my Chevy Lumina, was it in a field by Runcorn?

As for plans, well I'll most likely be painting my A40's fuel tank in the mornings. It's now had two coats of silver Hammerite and is looking good, I want to give it two more. Once the paint is on... well I might take the Capri for a little run, maybe down to my friend's garage (see my Cyprus thread). Apart from that? Well I'm sure I'll be here quite a bit....

On the Ginetta:

1. Replace the indicator bulb

2. Replace the brake light bulb

3. Re-check all the chassis earths if new bulbs doesn't fix it

4. Make up some brackets for the passenger side Recaro seat

5. Try and stop the exhaust from clonking at the back, or buzzing in the middle.

Or possibly none of those things cos I might go and look at a Land Rover project if the bloke ever phones me and tells me where he lives

That'll be the one Eddy. Apparantly it's grown big now and moved further into Frodsham, somewhere off the Manley road near the town centre.

a) Discover why the brake fluid in the resevoir isn't going into the copper pipes to the actual brakes (as is how the system is supposed to work), but is in fact, going into the brake servo and pissing out of the pipe hole.

B) Buy new brake servo for 30 quid or more.

c) Waste more precious moments of my life fixing a car.

need to get a couple of part worn tyres for the new daily saab, also got to get another key cut for it so I have a spare. A Mates just purchased a Volvo 480 SPECIAL Edition so I will have to go have a look at that. After all that excitement I will retire to the pub where I will drink too much ale.

Drive. A lot. In the BX. We're off to check out Wales - a fair sized chunk of the place. Need something swift that won't cost a bomb in fuel. Rules out most of the fleet but the BX should do nicely!

Strip the 'box out a dead Renner 21 estate or help a mate with a couple of jobs on his Mk3 Supra.

Might go for a wander round a scrappy too.

Still miss the comfort and economy of my BXs. Where about in Wales are you too, North or South?

Middle and south by the look of it. Looking forward to it. The BX is great for distance stuff.

I shall be driving a 1974 Beetle Karmann Cabriolet to Somerset and bringing a 2010 Range Rover Vogue Supercharged back!

Photos to follow of course!

If you do get the chance to head towards the north try going up (or down) Dinas Maddwy, it's a belting road.

Also if you go to Machynnlleth, take the road to Llanidloes via the Clwydeog reservoir, it's absolutely amazing for driving and scenery.

Off to the Scottish Vintage Bus Museum both Saturday and Sunday with my very loud, very bright, Mk2 Leyland National.

680ci of naturally aspirated diesel POWAH!!!!!

Well, nothing massively exciting I spose...

It's defo valet time tho, so having already (finally) bodged the exhaust, it'll be a clean out, a hoover, and then the usual *I've just cleaned out the car* very calm drive to the supermarket and back.

Punk rock.

I'm taking my 1990 216 down to Tunbridge Wells where me and a couple of mates will transfer the roof box onto a 1992 216 Auto. Then we're off to Lands End where we'll meet up with a load of other people driving old shite.

Then, on Monday we point it North and head for Johnny Groats, via North Walez, Cumbria and the West coast of Scotland.

Thanks to 109Landy for the roofbox!

I'll also be hoovering out the car shortly. It hasn't been done for about six weeks - which in my own standards is a ridiculously long length of time. I normally go though it with the hoover at least once a month.

Thanks for the reminder, Cavette. There's a small possibility I can be at Frodsham car show tomorrow, I only live 15/20 minutes away after all. However, it will be late on if I can get there at all. I've got to run straight past there on an errand up to Colne first thing tomorrow morning (non-shite related) and it's unlikely I can get out of it. Depending what time I can set off back from there will determine if I can make it or not.

Isn't it being held on the community centre fields this year? If so, it's behind the railway station.

I believe if you head into Frodhsam from helsby, turn right at the lights in the town centre and head towards Manley/Delamere Forest it's up that way if that's where the community centre is? I've not been before sorry hence a bit vague.

It's okay, I know Frodsham quite well. I go though there a couple of times a month. Yes, turn at the traffic lights in the centre, under the railway bridge and up 'the hill' past the little shopping precinct on your right. Turn left at Finn Lane about half a mile further up (the first major junction on your left - the angle is as if you're almost going back on yourself) and I'm sure it's on your left down there somewhere.

You can also get to Finn Lane directly from the A56 a bit further along at a crossroads, but I'd avoid this junction. It can be an absolute nightmare.

I could very well be wrong as to the location of the show - that's just what I’ve overheard from another friend who's going, so I wouldn't take my word for it. A quick internet search finds this if that’s the one, so I have probably overheard correctly. I just hope I haven't got my wires crossed or we'll end up on a wild goose chase...! If it is here, car parking could be a pain as it’s in the middle of a housing estate... :?

I'll be surprised if it's not signposted on temporary yellow signs or something.

Nothing much this weekend, but next weekend I'm going to the 24 hour 2CV race at Snetterton with a tent and everything....The support races look good too: Historic Touring Cars and Thunder Saloons.... 8)

Have a play with my new Rover - that's my no.1 priority this weekend.

I'd also like to get the brake lights working on the Renner Six (discovered that the brake light switch is actually fine, but there's a break in the wire between the switch and the rear lights, so probably just going to run a new wire back rather than faffing about trying to trace the break). And see if the blowing exhaust can be patched up or if I'm going to have to fork out for a replacement.

I also need to get the Saab jacked up and see if I can work out where the low-speed wobble is coming from. I'm hoping it will be an out-of-shape tyre as that will be the cheapest to repair out of the various potential reasons.

I've also been meaning for the past several weeks now to run the Renner 21 and the Volvo up to the jet wash and wash the accumulation of sap and bird crap off them - who knows, this weekend might be the one?

Fix the cupholder in the Sprinter (fell off) then off to VW Festival at Harewood House tomorrow.

I've just been to Maxey car show.I took the Renner 18.It's very local so I knew a few people there.Didn't get my camera out as it rained alot (sorry).Peter Simpson,Richard from CCW,Richard Joyce (BMC show organiser) and Jerry Thurston of Salvage Squad fame were there.

It was a good day out inbetween the showers. An ex neighbour of mine brought along a Holden VXR 6.0 litre V8.It sounded awsome on full chat. For a small village show there was a wide range of cars. From Bob's 1914 Studebaker to Steve's 57 reg Holden.Shame about the weather though as the wet grass was very slippery.

A good wash and hoover of the W124 and then I'll have to do the same for the 205 so I can take some gumtree photos.

Well I did some painting on my A40 fuel tank first thing, then took the Capri out for a couple of hours of countryside. It wasn't completely random, as I'm scoping out routes for a possible event for our club. Came home and lounged about on the internet for a couple of hours, then lounged in the (blow-up) pool for a bit before tea. Watched House because Hugh Laurie is brilliant, and now here I am, back. Tomorrow is likely to be very similar, possibly without taking the Capri out. Might go and drink coffee at my friend's garage in place of that... It's a tough life.

Finally getting around to ordering a new hood for the Golf in the hope the weather will be dry enough to fit it over the bank holiday. The old one is full of holes - Mrs Skiz sewed patches on some of the worst ones but has run out of patience. If it has to do another Welsh winter like that then it'll double as an aquarium.

Billy, is the Frodsham show a ticketed event or can you just turn up??? I didn't know it was on.

Are we having a stand at Chumley in september??
