New Years Car Resolutions?

Recommended Posts

1) Properly mothball the Polo so that it doesnt decompose through lack of use
I dont really want to get rid of it, partly sentimental bollocks but also its actually not a bad car.

2) Get a small auto and get both daughters through their test (Mk2 has her test on Monday) so that I can stop having to taxi them at 3am when one of them ends up with a "close" shift at the cinema (Who the fuck goes to watch a film that finishes at 2.45am???) which incidentally I have on Sunday night/Monday morning - actually debating going and watching one of the two films that finish at that time, but both are utter shite

3) Get the Royal Alloy MOT'd and use it a bit more.

4) Get a commuter 500/600cc bike

5) Use the new compressor to underseal all the cars with some schutz

6) Install a new shed for Mrs Wombles "Madge" with a proper base & power.

I have a few* bits to get done. Most of them are rollovers!

  • Get the E320 MOT’d and sold once the logbook finally arrives.
  • Buy the tool to make new fuel lines on the Alfa 147. Make and fit the fuel lines, weld the underneath up, MOT it and sell it.
  • Fix the 306, MOT it and use it; freeing myself from the 20mpg’s of the Disco
  • Buy more cars… to repair and sell, as it ties into a couple of my other goals.
  • Get trade insurance again.
  • Put up some storage at my yard, and move all my spare parts from the garage and shed to the yard.
  • Sort out my garage to make a decent work area.
  • Remove the Lada and BX TZD from my driveway, and take them to the yard… It would be good to be able to park on the driveway again.
  • Drag everything else left up at the farm over to the yard.
  • Fix the Pontiac. Both my mrs and my son have requested that it is made working again.
  • Sort out the front suspension on the disco.
  • reseal the sunroof on the Clio, and replace  the headliner.
  • Get a better daily driver for my mrs.
  • Refresh the car trailer; paint, wiring, lights etc.
  • Obtain some more utility trailers, as you can never have enough of them.
  • Finish the welding and painting on the proton, sort the sunroof out, refit the interior and finally get the car completed. It deserves to live!
  • One of my BX’s (the one that is about to snap in half) becomes MOT exempt this year, so I need to remember to have a chuckle about that at the point it happens.

Theres plenty more, but that’s all that my overwhelmed brain can vomit out currently.

I also have plans for 2027, and probably 2028 at least!

Overall aim is to make life simpler… in car terms:
- Sell the 9-3 convertible
- Have the engine on the 2CV professionally rebuilt/Buy new engine to get it back on the road.
- Stop the decline of the 9000 e.g. get a new front wing, give it some TLC.
- Drive the Pontiac more.

- Probably move some or all of the project 2CVs on as I’m never going to get round to them.

- Maybe buy a 60s British classic for a bit of fun.

Some of the above might happen…

Buy a French estate car so I can say, "shall we take the break?"

Mend Blingo.  2+ years is long enough.

Use Dyane more, mainly to stop it breaking through sheer shock each time it moves.

Sort Mercedes suspension creaks.

Retire, to free up time for the above...

Put more hours into the Cresta. Get better at metal forming.

Commit to sorting the 740 properly or sell it and buy something older/shitter.

Apply sound deadening and new seat foam to the Doloshite. Make it a nicer place to be on extended drives.

Not buy anything without selling something first...

I remembered a couple of other things I want to achieve this year…

  • Buy a recovery truck, ideally a completely shagged mk4/5 transit or LDV Convoy.
  • Get another small trailer for gardening - I’ve sort of done this one tonight, but tomorrow should bring an even better* resolution to this.
  • Buy a small, broken, XUD powered van.

This year I really need to sell at least one of my worthless old heaps priceless classics, to release some space, time and money for the rest of them.

I think the Visa of many shitters will be making yet another appearance on the "shite for sale" pages soon...

@Cavcraft i have a Trafic. Really nice things to live with. Nicer to drive than the usual transit/transporter in my opinion.

My resolution is to sell something and free up money. So anyone in the market for a Z4 coupe or a ZXR750 feel free to give me money.

Try not to get another speeding ticket. I got just two in nearly 45 years up to 2023 then another two in 18 months. One was a awareness course luckily so only on 3 pts.

Hopefully click over 500k miles in the Caddy, then decide whether to carry on running it or replace it.
