My 3rd car this month, I feel sorry for my insurance company!

You'd think they'd love it all the fees etc. Mine seem to be getting very fussy and often now decline to quote altogether. Meaning the only way around it is to cancel the policy and take out a new one altogether.

Great car btw, always love a mk1 mondy.

If you ever need to rehome it etc....

To add it to my multicar policy with Hastings has only bumped it up a few bob.

It won’t be a long term fleet member so will most likely end up on here at some point

Seems to be a few photos of it with the outdoor covers on and maybe with

too.

Could always phone the company and ask if it belonged to someone who worked there.

Right so my friend has lost the keys for it, they’ve vanished from the face of the earth. He’s ordered me a new key and barrel set but we still need to get in the car to change it all. Is there anyway I can get into it with causing as little damage as possible? I was thinking about the old flat blade and hammer trick

Also am I right in thinking these have an immobiliser in the key? In which case a new key and barrel set wouldn’t work? I’ve never owned a Ford before so just trying to work things out

I think it depends on what immobiliser you have. They switched mid production run - people talk about 'pre-PATS' and PATs cars. I know mine is pre-PATS.

Assuming it’s a PATs car, would I need to get the key reprogrammed? Or is there a way to bypass it? What year is your mk1?

Mine is March 93, so early. All the Mondeo key types are explained here

Pip Petchy or Paul Harbord on the Mondeo MK1 register group will know the answer to this better than I, I think Paul has resurrected a pre-PATS car with a later PATS loom, from memory

I’ve put a request in to join the group, thank you for the info. It’ll be just my luck that my friend will find the key the second I drill a lock.

I’ve also asked my friend which key it had i’ve got my fingers and toes crossed that it will be the non PATs key then hopefully swapping out the barrels will be relatively easy

So there’s bad news and good news. The bad news is the key is infact a PATs key,

however my friend now thinks the keys are possibly inside the boot, as I mentioned he’s bought me a new key and barrel set so if the keys are in the boot all I’d have to do is replace is the boot lock.

Now the question is. How do I get into the boot? Obviously I’ve seen on Top Gear with the man and the van challenge that breaking into a 90s Ford is relatively easy. Is it just as simple as using a flathead screwdriver and a hammer or would it be easier to drill the lock?

If they are tibbe keys, then any decent locksmith should be able to get in pretty easily.
