Heyy I read one of my sister's 'Take a Break' or some shit magazines and it had a competition to win a Chevrolet Lacetti (nee Daewoo Lanos) which has been on the go since 1997!!

Can anything beat it? Aside from obvious stuff like the Land Rover Defender of course.

The VW Sharan had a good old run until this year. 95-2010, but they did facelift 'em in 2000ish.

VW Golf - But i guess that is obvious

Ford Mustang ?

I thought the OP meant "The longest production run of the same car", as opposed to "The same car name attached to loads of different cars".

Golf has been around since 2004ish hasn't it, but the original since '74.

Mustang since '64, but they change it every 4-5 years.

911 has been around a while, do they still make the Bristol Beaufighter type thing? That's been around since the Neolithic era.

I thought the current Lacetti has only been in production since 2004

What about the Sth Ifrkn CitiGolf? Isn't that essentially a Mark 1?

The star car may differ slightly from model pictured

Morgan 4/4, 74 years :) (but if you include a break in the early 50s, a mere 55 years :( )

Me too, it's certainly not the same as the Daewoo Lanos...

Nice job Peter! I hoped somebody would untangle its twisted clues.

Anyway...

The Chevrolet Lacetti has only been on the go since 2004 because that's when they re-branded it, you fools.

Patently the same car.

I forgot about the VW Sharan, since it was basically the same vehicle from 1995-2010 I think we have a winner.

What about the Defender? Isn't the current one a facelift as opposed to a new design?

Posted

The Indian Hindustani Ambassador has been around for AGES! Before that it was the Morris Oxford over here. I suspect it's been in production in basically the same shape and form since the 1950's-that's over 60 years!

Anyone able to beat that.....

The VW "Beetle" went from the late 1930's, when it was called the "K.D.F. Wagen" until its demise in the 1980's in Brazil.

Sorry MC, but they are not the same car.....look at the arches, suage lines by the door handles and middle of the doors etc and the rear looks different.

I guess it could be a complete shell re-skin so technically the same underneath though.

Here is a rear view, even the door shut lines are different, the only bit that looks the same is the roof. :?

The Volkswagen Beetle, also known as the Volkswagen Type 1, was an economy car produced by the German auto maker Volkswagen (VW) from 1938 until 2003. It used an air cooled rear engined rear wheel drive (RR layout). Over 21 million Beetles were produced in all.[3]

In the 1950s, it was more comfortable and powerful than most European small cars, having been designed for sustained high speed on the Autobahn, and ultimately became the longest-running and most-produced automobile of a single design.

It's still just a tarted up Lanos retrogeezer.

I'm sure most of us already know about the Land Rover Defender, Morgan 4/4 and the Strength-through-joywagen - looking for more obscure cockroaches.

I agree, but panels are not interchangeable so it's more than just a badge change.

It might be the same underneath but you can say that about loads of cars these days, even from different manufacturers.

The original Ford Ka had a pretty good run - about 1995 to 2009 with the only major change being the loss of the Kent engine.

I'm with RG on this one. Theyre two different cars.... Get over it Milf!

Reskin = new model for the purposes of this game.

What about the Saab 9-5, how long has that been going? It seems like an age.

petrol cap flaps are on different side as well................

The Metro was in production from 1980 until 1997, being called a Rover 100 didn't change the fact it was a Metro!

with some major changes a couple of years ago,

what about the mercedes w 670 from 1986 and still in prduction.

Posted

OK, so are we saying said car has to be currently available in the UK?

Think, as mentioned, the Saab 9-5 has been on the go for about 13yrs.

Has the Ford Galaxy been a bit too facelifted over the years to qualify? If so then thats 1995 - present.

'Rover' Metro from 1990 was a very different car - new engines for a start, a lot of reengineering round the front, new external panels all round, except the roof.

The Ford Galaxy was replaced in 2007  !

But the Seat and VW versions may still be available.
