Mate of mine has asked for help, found this tune on a mixtape, but can't find the inlay card.

Probably 1980's....anyone got a clue who it is?

Or a clue on how to find out?

I have, and they're no bloody help....there's a few chaps on here that are into their music, so I thought it worth a try.....

Sorry, can't help with the identification, but nice selection of pictures on the Youtube vid 8)

has he tried shazam?

dial 2580 and point the mobile at the music (keep it quite loud) - if shazam has it on its database it will text you the result

tried it but my laptop speakers are shite

no idea what it is but I like it...

1st couple of lines appear to be this:

Water flowing, I'm drowning.

Tide turned against me, washed away my dreams.

Stepping stones that separate......

And it's probably called 'When it comes to love'

Is there no date or anything on the cassette?

Try sending it to one of those aging DJ's on Radio 2/5 etc. I bet someone like Steve Lamacq would know. Q magazine also do a what's this song request, or used to.

Iam probably wrong but it sounds similar to Siouxsie and the Banshees to me.

Russ Abbot.

Nah, sounds more like the Grumbleweeds to me. I can tell by the guitar.

Sounds more like Curve to me. Although most female indie vocalists of the late 80s sounded the same...

Water flowing I'm drowning ....... .........

tide turn against me wash my dreams away.

Stepping stones that seperate when I'm crossing over the river

between.

You and I never learned to end this game of hide and seek.

Only a child when it comes to love.

When it comes to love.

Only a child when it comes to love.

One thing strikes me oh and it's burning ..... .....

something to feed the fire and keep from growing cold.

.... ...... money trying to cover

You and I never learned to end this game of hide and sex (sure it's sex the second verse).

Chorus.

Something along those lines but I can't find nothing on the net.

Sounds a little like a grown up Becki Bondage of Vice Squad fame to me

I played this to my mate Luke 'The Duke' Foster, who has an enormous knowledge of obscure music and he was stumped. Reckons it might be Pat Benatar but can't find anything in her back catologue that matched. He also says that it may very well haunt him for the rest of his life.

Sorry!

I've been thinking about it as well, I can't believe a single line of the song isn't on the internet somewhere.

What mix tape was it? Was it one someone made themselves or a proper tape bought from Our Price?

If Shazam cant get it and there is nowt on t'interweb was it a random local band someone has put on a mixtape back in 'nam?

Asked my mate who knows all things music and he had no idea either.

Thanks for trying chaps; its a home made mix tape, so no help there.

I think Curve may be the closest - hadn't thought of Ms Bondage...unlikely to be Ms Banshee,,,,

I'm still none the wiser.

Yeah its quite a cool song that. 8)

My first though was W.A.S.P because I thought it sounded abit like a high pitched Blackie Lawless vocal but then I realised it is a woman singing.

So no idea :? I do like the insistent guitar riff all the way through though. :)
