That's amazing, always loved these things. Does it have the spare wheel mounted in the front wing?

It does… battery and brake servo in other compartment

Is it like the DS rear wings, one bolt and the wing lifts off, or does it hinge?

So hang on, have you bought a DS and a Bristol in the space of 10 days? Because if you have, that's pretty fucking heroic.

The DS might be going.

Already? I have one (stored) they are an unusual drive. Not that popular in France - a little too thirsty... and the problems associated with the early days of the 5th Republic somehow rubbed off on their image - as the car of the conservative bourgeoisie 😂

Whereas the Bristol has no image issues..

A few Bristols in the Notting Hill/Holland Park area.

Marvellous, isn’t it? All adds to the magic.

I have no idea why Allegro door handles are passé but senator/rootes/bedford rear lights are fine - but I don’t make the rules 🤷‍♂️

Think they’d spent all the R&D money by the time they got to the back…

Bristol are one of those things that I *should* love (right 'era', grandad spec, big lazy engines) but the insistence on the spare wheel location really screws up the proportions :(

I'd have one shortened to look better if I won fortunes.

Are the Avon Safety Wheels OEM fitment?

Later on IIRC they used senator units…

with the last of the line IIRC a6 sourced, and awkwardly blended..

If they had moved them inboard about 5 or 10mm it would have looked so much better.

The posh twat in Call the Midwife drove one before replacing it with a Mk 10 or 420G Jaguar.

Alvis, IIRC.  I think John Alderton drove one in a series too but can't remember which.

If I were to come into money tomorrow, the 603 line of Bristols would be the first thing I bought. No question. I've coveted them since being a school boy.

The closest I got was Setight's book.

Are you sure you're not me? It was The Observers Book of Automobiles I bought in the mid '70's that brought them to my attention. At the time I prefered the 412 but now it's the 603 all the way.

That's where I picked up the Avon tyre fact.

Congratulations to Bristol for inventing voice-controlled audio decades before the likes of Google and Amazon appeared on the scene.

At least, that's how I assume one is supposed to operate the stereo.

Who cares about safety and ergonomics if something looks that great?

Tony Crook - the late CEO of Bristol Cars was quite a character and of trenchant views - I expect he regarded fiddling with the wireless an effete activity - only to be undertaken before setting off and not touched after.

There was a name in Exchange&Mart, every week for years and years, who wanted to buy your Bristol.
Got into legal trouble over something. Could have been a Brian…
