All it takes is "being a Shiter!"

Please, please, whatever you do, don't fit an engine that's more than a decade younger than the car!

The Jag was lovely….. took it out for a drive, and was totally underwhelmed. Was it comfortable… not especially .. was it fast…. not especially….. and the ride was ruined by 20” wheels and rubber band tyres.
And he wanted £7k for it

What are your thoughts re engine?

IIRC they had a twin cam originally, go original or have a spiritual successor under the hood, or something completely different?

Great project!

As I do need an automatic , I’m going to have to have a hunt around and see what I can get in there. It will not be “ hot rodded”, or interfered with beyond what is strictly necessary to install a new power plant

i like those! theres somethign about the odd shaped, suicide front doors that pleases me.

Whats the powerplant plans? Sticking with period, or something a little more modern?

From memory, these are still pretty valuable, so you might be better hunting an orignal engine out, but if thats not your flavour, i would probably be tempted by something like a zetec, or more likely a mx5 engine and box (easy enough to find in auto as well!) Bmw engine above, is a great engine, no doubt about it, but a bit ott for something this size i would think.

Excellent purchase and much better than an XK8. As for an engine, a Rover V8 in an RM has been done a couple of times.

I don’t really want to modify brakes and suspension. Just want something with an auto box. If anyone has a simple ( pref no ECU) engine and box they want to get rid of, please let me know. Even better if someone on here ( in exchange for cash monies) could fit it for me.

I have a couple of contacts, but they’re pretty busy at the moment. Can get Riley transported to pretty much anywhere

A Jag engine would be kind of appropriate, given what @Rocket88 was intending to buy before he ended up with the Riley.

Im thinking a fairly easily available 2.0 DOHC ford as fitted to sierras and granadas etc with an auto box (was it a c3 fitted to these?) would be a good call - Old enough engine for it to have been done 30 years ago as well 😉

What about an electric powerplant? Blend historic and modern together. Wouldn't need a massive range either - something like the motor from the Kangoo that @Kiltox is selling would give you probably 60-75 miles of range with the lighter body of a Riley and likely cruising speeds you'd want to do?

If I was just concerned about local pottering, I would actually consider this, but I would like something a little more “ in keeping “

Will do- will see him this weekend. hes probably got all displacements  i thought the 2.8 is closest to the 1.5 / 2.5. He will probably have a few 2.5 triumph 6’s available too.

I’ve actually got stashed away a Cologne V6 and auto box

I think the V6 auto would suit that really well.
