Ridiculous trim designations

When you think "GTR", you probably think of various lunatic Nismo products, or maybe the raw and powerful Ultima GTR. In either case, the GTR designation conjures up images of performance excellence, speed and exhilaration.

It doesn't conjure up images of a slightly jazzed up povvo R5, yet Renault badged some of them GTR anyway. Remember seeing one of these on holiday in France years ago as a child, and thinking it was daft even back then.

Heh - I had a red Renault 5GTX, 2 door - kind of meant to be an XR2 eater (I think) but it was, to be honest, pretty naff.
Kind of trading on the GT Turbo name I think.
Bastard to hot start though

Peugeot 205 STDT sounds a bit gross

I'm sure I've seen vans with something like " Renault Trafic SL27 DCI 115 6 Speed" written on the back.

I present to you, the Fiat 126 BROWN

One of these was at the centre of much merriment when I was at senior school. Brown was seriously uncool in the early 90s

Fiat 500 Diesel

Which marketing team thought that endorsement through? Weird.

This is the earliest 'special' I can recall - there was one rusting in a street near where I grew up (don't you just love what the sea breeze does to a car)

Holden and Toyota in Australia used to do Executive versions which were just base models with automatic gearboxes and air conditioning. Very popular with fleet buyers.

That should have come with green and red stripes.

Not being au fait with designer clothes, when I first saw one I thought it off they had made such a big deal of it being a derv.

In some parts of Europe they called the top spec the Renault 21 Manager.

I only remember seeing the (dis)Advantaged Maestro versions in green but, apparently, you could get a Montego or a Metro to complete your ensemble

Skoda …………… Laurin & Klement

What?!

Václav Laurin and Václav Klement were the founders of what became Škoda. Started under their own name in 1895 and we're bought by Škoda who at the time were a big industrial engineering company who didn't make cars, and renamed Škoda Auto.

Not interesting or funny but true.

This is actually Klement and Laurin.

You'd think they'd always make sure they were stood the right way round, like Ant and Dec.

Peugeot 205 XRAD ftw which amused the late, great Russel Bulgin.

"Quite posh diesel van" was his translation, IIRC.

My daughters Smart is a "Passion". A friend has a P reg Ford Escort "Encore". If that's the encore, what the hell was the main performance like?

Dull.  Dreary.  Closed after the press review performance.

I remember a cartoon in the paper back in the late 70s . Ford had bought out a Cortina (I think) GT XLR and the cartoon had the next car badges with “mine’s better than yours”.

I hate  the pretend premium badges like GT line , ST line, etc but I don’t think the buyers are deluded unlike the people buying AMG and MSport models.

Has anyone mentioned the Citroen Visa vans , Van Blanc and Van Rouge.?
