Well, we will be sorry to lose you from our South East AS gang that's for sure. Who else would bring a single figure MPG Rolls Royce up from the South coast for our meet ups , and obviously the reasons you mention for your departure paint a depressing view on where things are at the moment and a worry on where they are heading

That said, I am a big fan of Germany and I'm sure you'll have a great time there. Although they do have some funny rules like not allowing you to wash your car on a Sunday and the having to wait for the Ampelmann to cross the road soon gets boring 😂. I guess it opens up options to add some Germanic oddities to the fleet once you've settled in too

It really is depressing when former soviet countries and certain 3rd world countries have a better stance on human rights than our own, also as much as Germany has its issues its positives imho far outweigh its negatives

And i'm sure a big German barge will evidently join the fleet once I'm passed the settling in period, I'm thinking I may finally make AS history and brave a low cost W12 Phaeton

All rather worrying, agreed. Very odd times at the moment, for Germany as well as the UK mind.

Germany has a lot going for it though - certainly fun to give it a try!

The UK as a country has been sunk for some time imho. It’s still got some great things about it and some beautiful places but I utterly detest the place and most of the people now, and don’t even get me started on the scum in charge. Red, blue fucking whatever - self serving cunts all.

I wish you the absolute best of luck emigrating. It’s something I’ve wanted to do for a long time but never had the guts to do. There absolutely are much better places to spend your only life than here, and better countries to contribute to than this one.

It is a shame but understandable. I’ve enjoyed your exploits on here, particularly with ex @HMC stuff and I wish you the very best for what’s to come and look forward to reading all about it.

Yeah I was just starting to know the way from Portsmouth to tavi without a satnav 😆 thank you for the kind words though

Looks like an enjoyable road trip.

Reims is always a great stop off on the way out/back from a continental jaunt.

looks like you managed to have a great adventure dispite the cars being mischevious and trying to spoil the fun! i loved my mx5 but my hair rubbed on the soft top and it had a bit of tin worm and inevitably i needed something to chuck several bags of coal in the back of so i ended up selling at a loss - think its engine lives on though!

germany to live? think that youtube post apocalyptic inventor bloke is possibly near cologne? i forgets. i would like to explore the germany berlin particularly!

but yes keep us updated so we can sort of have the adventure with you!

It really was a kicker and I heavily downplayed the emotions I was feeling that night but I'm glad we didn't cancel and if anything I have a lot more respect for that little Mazda than i ever had before

Should’ve asked for your bank details and paid for it whilst you were thinking.

On the note of moving countries how is the German admin for moving your worldly goods over?

I'd imagine pretty expensive, luckily my worldly goods consist of not a fat lot, so I'm going to load as much as I can into the Beetle "luckily the rear bench folds" and buy whatever else I need over there

My accommodation is a semi furnished studio anyway so shouldn't need too much to finish off

I used to kick the passenger seat off the rails in my old 1200, can get a lot in a beetle. Even popped the back screen out when we did the kitchen in my first tiny flat. Worktops sticking out the back praying it didn’t rain!

Why can I imagine you going over a month early, coming back in a Taunus Transit and loading it up with your gear?……

New car incoming on Tuesday, now I know another car should be the last thing on my mind right now and you'd be right but it's a British icon for a bargain price so I really couldn't say no, "I have a real problem with that don't I?" All to be revealed soon

This sounds very much like you’ve purchased an HMC VDP, but I’m happy to be proven wrong

I can't imagine quite how slow that must be with that eco mode button pushed!

Are the incline gauges factory?

Collecteded an Allegro well technically VP 1500, it was pretty obvious with my dribbling on @HMC' s thread when he bought it that I'd eventually own it, speaking of, thanks @HMC for letting me have first refusal and letting me have it for just £450, honestly a steal

I'll start of with the collection, it made it back to Portsmouth from Tavistock which is good, not entirely without fault though I might add, we got to the M275 into portsmouth when the belt snapped and we very nearly overheated, that being said its been very hot today and the temp gauge had stayed just below middle for the entire drive up to that point so that's got to be worthy of a congratulations if anything

Okay now the big bit, impressions...

I don't like it

I know I know, boo hiss and all that, but it's true, I feel like I've let the side down as being a big BL and BMC nut  I really thought I would like it, I've always wanted one but I just honestly don't like the way it drives, so it definitely won't be a long term keeper unfortunately, i feel like because i wanted one for so long i built up a false assumption it would be better than it is but I guess we never know until we try aye? So after some fettling and minor improvement it'll be back up for sale i reckon
