IIRC the elephant murderer said that the Cortina was dangerous on the track. Probably not quite as dangerous as performing an escapology act suspended 100 foot in the air though.

I was about to say, the Mk3 Cortina was not known for its saloon car racing abilities. He had more success with a Capri and Escort though. 

There was a fad for celebrity car races in the early to mid 70s with DJs and television presenters - I think Noel was one of the very few who could actually drive, well not crash anyway.

Well  I was at Wembley Stadium in1974 and both Noel and Hot Rod driver Barry Lee got their arses handed to them by Stock car legend Stuart Smith. They were all driving identical Escort Mexicos
