Shame about the dent on the wing as the rest looks quite tidy.

The film is about the car why derivation in brand why brand that whether brand from early 1880s to present day consumerism where cheap is less than mediocrity

 Oh, ok, that explains it.

I think he has edited it to make more sense. Giving in to the composers nightmare of banality and consumerism then ?

This is lovely.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1991-CITROEN-BX-4 ... 923wt_1167GR8 4 driving 3 yards before the gearbox spline things break and you realise the exhaust is made of unobtanium and will cost another mortgage to replace.I'd have one though just for shite top trumps factor.

Are BX and presumably 405 4x4s that bad? The BX has done 127k presumably without incident - that seems ok.If the 4x4 gubbins breaks is it driveable in FWD?

Posted

I think the concept is flawed. I can remember Vauxhall issuing a bulletin to Cavalier 4x4 owners that basically told them not to use 4WD.

Posted

Is there a choice in the matter? I thought those cars had permanent 4x4.I guess you could manually disengage it by dropping the prop shaft.

Posted

If the 4x4 system goes you're bollocksed basically and the chances of finding replacement parts aren't too clever. A bigger/faster engine would probably just rip the BX 4x4 to shreds so maybe if they're driven gently they're not so bad.Someone in BX circles is working on a replacement spline, will have to mail him and see how he's getting on. For some reason 405s seem better fared to cope with a 4wd system. The 4x4 fitted to Cavalier GSis was the stuff of nightmares and they fucked up if you have differing tread depths on the car so a puncture or one or two worn tyres meant replacement of all four. They could be run in 2WD I believe and lots were 'converted' that way.

Posted

Why are they so shit? Are they just overly complex compared to the reliable Subaru AWD and Audi quattro systems?I read that the 405/BX system had been engineered by Steyr-Puch who are usually good at that kind of thing.

Posted

The BX and Cavalier try to drive the back wheels from a transverse engine, I've a feeling all the drive to the rear comes from one front driveshaft.

405 is better than the BX. It's a weak transfer box that's the issue I believe.

Someones sorted the slightly crusty valance, its travelled quite a way south.

If critically flawed cavalier 4x4's in particularly poor order are your thing.. how about this one

The engine in this car was 2.0(seh) i have removed it, becouse i wanted to put 3.2 + super charged. There is no interior inside, allmost everything is removed from the inside, no fron pannel, no front seats

Nice work.

The side profile shot has me wondering how many driven wheels it has.

Yup, I can still ecall the technical bulletins that were sent round about them and Calibras. Plus the Cav 4x4 had independent rear suspension that apparantly rusted like crazy.

I would quite like an old Reliant van, just for a lark, because they take up f-all space, and I could dribble to local shows in it. But you just know that you would spend all your time being told that it would be GR8 2 MAKE A TROTTER VAN, M8.

Wankers.

1989 Vauxhall Eagle Quest Hearse

I couldn't bring myself to scrap this vehicle last time around but now I really do need the space so it will scrap this week if it doesn't sell.

Scrap it then!

1984 Reliant Fox Electric car

NOT GR8 4 MOTORWAYS

1976 Humber Sceptre 1725

Looks like the one that got scrapped the other week.

Cant think any real reason why as the drivetrains of both were identical - the 405 even used the rear suspension of the bx lock stock and barrel.
Posted

I think the 405 must have been beefed up because the Mi16 could be had with all-wheel drive. Try putting that much power through the BX system as you'll be going nowhere.

Posted

Could the BX 16v not be had with four wheel drive?

Posted

No, it would have ripped the four wheel drive system to bits! They did make a 4x4 GTi though (1.9 petrol 8V) and would expect they're very rare now.If anyone's feeling brave, rich, stupid or all three, apparantly there are one or two 4x4 BXs (estates I think) languishing behind a Citroen specialist near Chester.
