Hi,

as I told you I won the auction of this Renault 20 turbo-d on ebay

http://cgi.ebay.fr/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie ... TQ:FR:1123

Clearly 260 Euros were not enough for the seller. Now he says that the cambelt that had just been renewed snapped today. What would you do? Just let it go? Probably he is not the most trustworthy person anyway and I'd have to drive the car for 1200 km.

Tell him you'll take it anyway even with a broken cambelt! Call his bluff and see what he says next.

Posted

I'm with mr.b he's just trying to get out of letting the car go for that price. You won it fair and square he should honour his side of the auction.

Hey! Maybe you've been inspired by me and want to buy a Range Rover diesel! This one looks nice.

F605DFR4.jpg

The VM boat anchor is long gone, replaced professionally with a 300Tdi. Well, the airbox install isn't that pro, but it's fine!

F605DFR9.jpg

Comes with some excellent bolt-on accessories!

F605DFR2.jpg

Has a SUPERB custom-built centre console and free dent on the passenger side facia.

Currently at £723. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1989-ROVER-RA ... 0740736273

Hey, I love those Ibizas. Great looking little things I reckon. Were they an Italdesign project?

Anyway, seller seems like he may possibly be a mentalist:

I MUST STATE THIS CAR DOES RUN AND DOES START UP WHICH IS AMAZING FOR A CAR OF ITS AGE.

Yeah, fuggin' unbelievable that. It must be the only car from 1990 that hasn't been scrapped by now.

That Ibiza is lovely. However note the way the seller talks about the non faded cherry red paint. Anything to do with the bottle of Color Magic by the back wheel in the last pic perchance?

Having said that, I would.......

I'd love this, but even with 12mpg and 10 reels of MIG wire required, it'll probably still break £1500

$(KGrHqYOKkIE5US3zW)BBOVVTDESfQ~~48_12.JPG

Amazingly it sold for £875 and the new owner still didn't want it

Back on again

Aye those Ibiza's were designed by Giugiaro, I've tried them in 1.2, 1.5 petrol and even 1.7 Diesel, but never with the 903cc lump that one has. I always thought that it would be hopeless, as its basically a Strada/Ritmo floorpan with a Panda Engine.

I remember test driving a six month old 3 door Ibiza back in 1989. It was for sale at £4200 and was the 1.2 with the GLX alloys which I thought were dead smart. I loved it and agreed to buy it, but being a bit pikey back then, the bank wouldn't lend me the money so I couldn't go ahead with the sale.

I do recall it having something 'wacky' about the dash.... were the indicator controls funny little flap things? (Digs deep into memoey but can't quite remember....).

But every cloud has a silver lining...I bought a Talbot Alpine instead.

Early Ibiza's had almost Citroenesque switchgear, with a paddle for the indicators. They did self cancel though.

This was changed when VW took over, around late '89, when they got the generic Golf/Polo Switchgear.

My Parents had a brace of these, an '88 1.2L E185PUG. (called Ear Plug), which was followed by a '90 1.2XL G998KWX. The early Seat built one was completely reliable, and the VW one a complete dog, with endless problems with water ingression, overheating, and some electrical faults. Put my old man of Seat sadly.

I know someone who's got one. I'm going to ask him if he's sold it when I see him tonight. He said he'd had interest. If he has sold it, wonder what it went for!

That looks like one of the cars someone on another old car forum had, I know it was one of his long term projects, but the ad isn't his style, and he'd never own one of those sort of cars that's next to it. Guess like everyone he thinned down his fleet and sold it on. What the ad doesn't show the holes in the sill...

Haven't seen him for ages online, wonder if he did manage to get on here??

Was black a special order colour for Marinas? I don't recall seeing many in that hue before. Anyway, looks like a fairly good deal that lot, the van is crammed full of bits and the saloon doesn't look like it would need much doing to put it back on the road. I imagine the logistics of transporting two dead BL cars halfway across the country will keep the price down too.

IIRC, black was special order for most cars in the 70s/80s, and cost a bit more too.

RESTORATION PROJECT

Good luck with that

I spotted this heap of shit when I was on my way to MacDonalds the other day. Showed the pic to Volksy and he said it had been on here recently. Might pop down in a few days and see if its been collected or see if they just picked up the V5 and asked this guy to weigh the rest in in.......

I wonder if it changes colour pretty soon on the Doovla website?
