Just had my insurance renewal through, paid £358.29 last year. They want £706.70 😂

Bearing in mind it’s my employer, you can see how much insurance has gone up this year. Jumped on Go Compare and found it for £348.41 so that’ll do me!

Which begs the question has it actually gone up if some are still offering it at less than last year's price! Granted there's differing levels of service/cover.

Been feeling like I’m a bit old and past the light modifications on this so put the standard mirror caps back on, removed the yellow radiator bars and bought some standard original grills from eBay. Filthy as been racking miles up but I prefer the standard look. I’m old and boring!

I prefer the standard look too, congrats on getting old.

Wait till you're a few years later and prefer the SE look over an M-Sport!

Like my E90 was specced as a SE but with M-Sport steering wheel and suspension.

Looking good! hrome grilles are always the way. It comes for us all eventually. I'm going back to silver wheels on my 6-series.

Never understood the coloured radiator support bar thing. Why would you want to draw attention to something that looks a bit crap is lost on me.

Wind deflectors removed

Ordered a replacement steering wheel from a 45k mile car as mines quite worn.

Might remove the side skirt extensions.

Quite enjoying ‘un-modifying’ it!

Pretty much mint condition steering wheel fitted, in person it makes a huge difference to the 180k one I removed.

Also took the roof bars off for now, looking very standard! Side skirt extensions will come off next time I can be bothered to get the jack out.

red bits off the dash next?

That’s a factory thing! I don’t mind that as it goes with the seats

I can never understand why people leave roof bars on empty all the time. Apart from ruining the fuel consumption, they sound shite whistling away especially at speed.

I can’t honestly say I’ve noticed any difference in MPG at all, and the same re whistling - if they’re decent bars and fitted properly they don’t make noise. I had a cheap set on the Volvo and they were horrendous for noise though!

I usually leave them on because during the summer we have a kayak on virtually every weekend so it’s just easier.

Soooo.

Plate is retained, plan is to get it properly clean at the weekend and get some pics then post it for sale in the usual places.

We’ve been chatting about what to go for next and I want to go for something with more ground clearance for various reasons, I know they’re not highly rated on here but a Q5 is a serious contender. I don’t know much about the 7 speed DSG but it’s apparently not the same 7 speed dsg that is known to be awful.

The other option, and I feel a bit sick saying this, and Mrs JJ thinks it’s a woman’s car and she should have one not me, is an Evoque. I know, I know, but the 2.2 diesel is a decent engine, same as the father in laws XF, and the evoques are serious value for money now.

I doubt the evoque would be a goer as the whole RR image doesn’t sit well with me, but they’re a lot of car for the money.

£100 deposit down on a replacement

Train ticket to Leeds booked for next Sunday.

Potentially the riskiest purchase I’ve ever made but you only live once.

The kind of plate Musk would like 😂

As for the new purchase... Potentially the riskiest you've made? I'm going for diesel a6 avant, with tints, from Birmingham.

Either a late model RCZ with the 270 BHP 1.6 Turbo Pex engine or a 407 3.0 V6 complete with Milk Tray coloured leather interior?

No, hang on, you want something that is higher off the ground and does not match the number plate?

Puma engined Evoque with FWD only. In black with black interior and tints. If you hate it I'll have a couple of randoms as my missus really likes 'em.

No, hang on again - you said risky? Not enough jepordy in the 2.2 diesel so:

Ingenium engined Evoque (pezz), high miles, chain rattle but you know a man who can fix it. £1250 from CoPart

Within all that, you’ve nearly got it!

So, after much research on engines and models/specs, I settled on what I wanted and managed to find everything I wanted but it’s in Leeds. Bit of a ball ache but a 3.5hr train journey with only one change in Grantham isn’t too bad.

Have left a deposit so as long as it’s as described, we’re going for a 62 plate Evoque, 2.2, 4wd, Dynamic Lux…

This means it’s the decent engine and virtually top spec, it’s got pan roof, heated seats, dual view screen (where it’s one screen but from the passenger seat you can see freeview TV but from drivers seat you see the sat nav screen whilst driving), it’s got self parking, 825w Meridian sound system… everything I fancied if I was going to do this.

Insurance was the decider, working in the industry I know full well how bad these can be but I banged my details through Go Compare and it came out at £414 fully comp. More than I usually pay but still very good IMO!

It’s completely standard, everything on it is part of the Dynamic with added LUX pack. Orkney grey with black leather. 131k, full service history, cambelt has been done, 4 new Pirelli tyres too. All for under £6500. Chap has owned it since 2020 and selling due to getting a company car.

Hopefully it’s as good as it sounds. I know it’s a bit of a controversial one but I’ve got an itch so let’s scratch it…
