Simon M Posted August 29, 2010 Posted August 29, 2010 Ah, so that's why I was followed by one 2CV and passed another in Hook yesterday - I thought there might be something going on locally, as it was the first time I'd seen a 2CV on the road in years!
Rusty Pelican Posted August 29, 2010 Posted August 29, 2010 Great piccys , thanks for sharing We went to a 2CV show at Cheddar once in our Imp , These 2CV people are the most non-judgemental friendly bunch of car nuts you could ever meet ( apart from the Imp lot ) , made to feel welcome , given beer and food even though we were total strangers in the wrong car. This alone would , and does make me want one
scoobypete Posted August 29, 2010 Posted August 29, 2010 Lovely pics Just to be really anal and anoraky that red 2cv 2 door coupe thing has gen1 subaru badges stating its front wheel drive stuck to both sides On a cheekier note i dont spose you got any pics of my subaru at RR10 did you? I wasnt there for long,it got snapped a few times but have yet to see results anywhere..... Only cos its going to its new home next week and would like a pic of its last show to remember it by......
boobydoo Posted August 29, 2010 Posted August 29, 2010 I have NEVER driven a 2cv...something I must do! Nice to see those mint Dyanes and early LN.
nigel bickle Posted August 30, 2010 Posted August 30, 2010 Very nice pics. My french mate, Dom, whizzed over from Normandy in his french registered maroon Bijou - recently restored and looking sharp, Said it was a great weekend, despite the weather
dollywobbler Posted August 31, 2010 Posted August 31, 2010 Nice pics - shame I missed you! I was hanging around gate for quite a lot of the meeting. Great report, but some corrections from Anorak's Corner. The Blue 2CV van is an AKS400 - the largest of the 2CV vans. We didn't get the Acadiane either - all vans have been imported. A few RHD vans exist - either Belgian Post Office or Jersey special-builds, or converted in the UK more recently. They did attempt to market the H van here, and three right-hookers were built. Only one survives. The beige jeepy thing (not the correctly identified Bedouin but the one with the hood) is a Deuville Canjito - a modern kit. The Dyane was outlasted by the 2CV by seven years. I only learnt at the weekend that the blue Ami 8 service van with windows was available like that new, for those who had a fear of blind spots perhaps... For Ami van lovers, the holy grail arrived on the Sunday - a right-hand drive 8 Service. Gorgeous. I would try and get my photos up here but ReallyLoud's done a corking job of giving a flavour of the weekend. I had a ride around the field in the LN. Very odd having the 2CV soundtrack in what is effectively a Talbot Samba. My mate was toying with the idea of swapping his Wartburg estate for the LN and some cash. Tricky call!
reallyloud Posted August 31, 2010 Author Posted August 31, 2010 Thank you for the comments and thanks for the ID's Louise & Dollywobbler on the 2 Citroens I missed out - and the amendments on the sloppy info - I knew that the Dyane last left the production line in 1983 and the 2CV in 1990, so I really should have checked that. Didn't know about the van info though, I guess the H van was too esoteric to take sales from transitman. I guess Citroen UK were trying to normalise the range for the generally conservative UK market - I recall the 2CV6 being reduced to a small back page feature on the range brochures towards the end of its life. Of course Citroen now play on their so called 'wacky' image of the past. I had a chat with quite a few owners, all were very receptive and did their best to get back into the 2CV fold..... Scoobypete, I only managed to take one shot of your car, having almost drained my camera battery last year snapping at it - its a rear shot as you drove out, but its of clear resolution - 2816 x 1880 px. PM me your email and get it over to you. After whinging about the Blenheim Palace event on Seths thread, I went through some of the snaps earlier and concluded it wasn't a total waste of time. Like Seth, I'm just slightly disappointed after the amazing Vauxhall and BL shows I attended earlier this summer, that the Rootes one was so low-key - I reckon there were no more than 40 Rootes cars on the Monday. I recall going to a Rootes show sometime back in 1999 or 2000 at the same venue, and I struggled to choose which cars to snap at with my limited number of 35mm exposures. Not only that but there was a Lancaster/Spitfire/Hurricane fly past. Anyway, here's a selection of the cars. Maybe I expect too much... Not sure what stand this was again, but the guys on here were really helpful and chatty. This was neat, one of my faves. This got so much attention, especially from noisy kids. I had to visit the car at least 20 times to get a clear shot. I really like these early 70's TVRs, they've lost a lot of charm over the years - the late ones are bit too garish but I guess its all about the noise and driving experience. This was leaving as I got in. Shame, its a really late model too. I think this was the best car of the day. I'm sure I've seen even later ones of these - maybe even a Y plated one knocking around. Odd headlamp arrangement - might have worked without the indicators off the grill. Mum had one of these when I was little, it was sold after she discovered I could open the rear window to throw my toy cars out when in motion. I was very close to buying one of these as my first car - I decided against it as the owner had welded the bucket seats to the floor and I couldn't get my 6'2" lanky frame to fit in it. http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4087/4946278124_30f83fa334_o.jpg http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4128/4945693751_344458b86d_o.jpg This was neat, but I think the MKIII Cortina is a better balanced car. http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4154/4945694811_7793425010_o.jpg The owner of this car had recently picked it up from an elderly lady who's family had owned it since new. Its the usual proverbial dream find - It was MOT'd every year, never driven in the rain, garaged all its life etc. The body had evidence of parking scrapes and the odd ding, but full credit to the new owner who intends to keep the car as it is. http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4110/4945694541_e873eeab04_o.jpg Another GL's' model. http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4088/4945695089_c6d8a51799_o.jpg http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4083/4946280386_969f94530c_o.jpg Dozens of mint unraced high performance mk1 Escorts. Possibly the most valuable group of cars in the show, or certainly close to the value of the brace of Jags on display. There were some nervous faces from the owners as some young kids played around close to the cars. http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4099/4945692447_593b68cc34_o.jpg http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4148/4946277454_d32135ebd3_o.jpg http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4133/4946277894_2e801c7898_o.jpg http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4092/4945692979_5a15ab897e_o.jpg http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4093/4946276966_82f517e4fe_o.jpg This sneaked in at the very end of the show. The weather held out and the show turned out ok in the end. I suppose.
brammy777 Posted August 31, 2010 Posted August 31, 2010 That looks good to me! Is it just me who sees later Cortina styling cues in that Taunus, especially in the lower half? I do quite like those Talbot Avengers, I cant ever remember seeing them. Funny how they look so alike to the Ital, considering both were a rehash of something older. That Rover 827 is gorgeous too, an identical one parked outside this morning.
seth Posted August 31, 2010 Posted August 31, 2010 Looking at your photos Blenheim would have been much better as a one day show if everyone had turned up that did across the two days. There was none of that OSF action, and I don't recall seeing a single Volvo. Would have been nice to have seen that Minx too. I think we saw the Westminster on his way there at the A40/A34 roundabout. The Courier was with the classic caravans.
Spottedlaurel Posted September 1, 2010 Posted September 1, 2010 That looks good to me! Is it just me who sees later Cortina styling cues in that Taunus, especially in the lower half? The similarities are even more apparent if you see the estate version of that Taunus - the Cortina Mk4 estate hardly changed at all from it. Fantastic pic’s, as ever (same applies to Seth’s from this show). Whetted my appetite for attending a show this weekend, Trigger’s going too so hopefully we’ll be able to talk about stuff live rather than after the event through photos. I’m really struggling with time to edit and upload my own photos, well done to all of you who manage it so quickly.
Lord Sterling Posted September 1, 2010 Posted September 1, 2010 Only 623 numbers earlier than my broken Sterling. Hmm, Mk1c Sterling, I've got one that looks like this, only a mk1b on a G-reg. Would it be Ok if I use this image over at the Rover800 site Reallyloud?
reallyloud Posted September 2, 2010 Author Posted September 2, 2010 LordSterling help yourself! A few spots that I found inbetween shows from the last few weeks. I know this was never badged as such, but its the same kind of thing. These are still quite cheap for what they are, like the 500SEC mercs they represent tremendous value for money when you think how much they cost originally and quite a few survive. Another brand that seems to last well are Hondas. Not sure if this represents good value for money - didn't get a chance to check whether its a ground up resto or a patched up horror. Looks ok to me, but I have to say if I was going to spend 8K on a coupe I'd get a Manta A and TA22 Celica. Spotted this a while back but it deserved a better picture. A brace of BL beauties outside a house where DH Lawerence once lived. There were 2 other minors and a Triumph 2000 stored there too. Nice to see a late 3 door, most of the Series 3 cars I stumble across tend to be 4 doors. I don't recall seeing such an early D21 Nissan. They made these in Mexico up until 2 years ago. This cheered me up. Looks like its going to live, although I'm hoping its not going to get raped for a X1/9.... ...and finally this. SLX version no less. I think this very late edition would have recieved suspension upgrades. Been off the road for 13 years.
trigger Posted September 2, 2010 Posted September 2, 2010 Trigger’s going too so hopefully we’ll be able to talk about stuff live rather than after the event through photos.I'm up for a chin wag about shite!, I've also got a nice collection of magazines in the boot of the Kadett for you as well!
reallyloud Posted September 12, 2010 Author Posted September 12, 2010 Spent the Saturday at the Beaulieu autojumble, good to have seen Nigel Bickle and cohorts selling what can only realistically be described as shite on their stall. I gladly bought a 1982 copy of a Parkers price guide, 1985 Thames Valley trader (includes a £950 mk1 Escort RS, a pair of expired Jensens for £300 and a brand new Talbot Alpine for 5K) and a 1978 Motorshow edition of the British Leyland range, for the princely sum of £3. Bargain. I also picked up a neat selection of toy cars, but the findings are getting scarcer, as the prices on virtually everything has gone up - one plus is that it was cheaper to get into the event this year and the weather just about held out after Saturday lunchtime. A slection of cars for sale at the motormart: Just out of shot is a guy who insisted in telling everyone within earshot that he once worked on these cars. Thanks. Very clean car - I didn't check its price. Claimed to have had very low mileage. Ever present at the event are the AA, usually with some suitable material. There was also a Minor and few vintage bikes. 11K for this GTV, but it had been restored from the ground up. The mini cooper to the left of it had a 32K price tag... I sold one of these in solid condition with no MOT for £500 about 5 years ago. I suspect that this one was going for a bit more. Not sure why you'd want a 6 wheeled Moke. I think this had a 2K price tag, but close inspection of those rear wings revealed worrying bubbles. The colour suits the car well. Check out those rear arches! And then a selection of cars seen in the car parking area. Not seen a CSK version for a while. I knew a student in Coventry who used to tear around in one of these but its was badly neglected. 1 of 4 mk2 Capris I saw, usually the car park is full of mk3 versions. I've seen these car around over the last few years, looks like the owner sold it to a German buyer - it still sports English plates under the German transfer ones.
Mr Lobster Posted September 12, 2010 Posted September 12, 2010 That yellow R5 has been doing the ebay circuit recently, always seems to fetch a decent amount though. Trouble is, as you say, if the rear wings are bubbling its bad news as everything behind it will be pretty nasty too and a fairly expensive repair.
seth Posted September 12, 2010 Posted September 12, 2010 Nice spots, some different to what I saw today. The low mileage Escort had sold but I don't know what for as all it said was offers. Didn't realise it had been up for 3k! That P100 was in amazing condition! Also, the "Reliant Sabre" was badged Sabra so may actually be an Israeli one?
trigger Posted September 12, 2010 Posted September 12, 2010 I'm a bit gutted i didn't go, Sadly Beaulieu isn't just around the corner for me so I'd have to stay for the weekend which is expensive seeing i only stayed there back in May for the last Autojumble, I will try and get to the international one next year as I've never been to the bigger show before. Some fantastic spots there BTW Mr. Loud.
brammy777 Posted September 12, 2010 Posted September 12, 2010 Great pictures as always RL, I might make the effort next year to come along to this, its pretty much around the corner (well the same county). That A reg 505 is one of the earliest ones I have seen lately, and it looks well travelled. Good to see two lovely Montegos, and that Mustang is nice and grubby.
retrogeezer Posted September 13, 2010 Posted September 13, 2010 nice pics RL, I don't suppose you noticed what this mk3 was up for??
Gompo Posted September 17, 2010 Posted September 17, 2010 Enjoyed the pics, that Mazda coupe must be the one that has been on Ebay a bit this year. Slightly disappointed that neither you or Seth posted pics of Bickle though.
nigel bickle Posted September 18, 2010 Posted September 18, 2010 Gompo? Why-I'm hardly ''photogenic''... Plenty of opportunities at Stondon - if you really feel the need.
barrett Posted September 18, 2010 Posted September 18, 2010 Don't worry Gompo, I plan to do an entire photo-essay at Stondon using Bickle as my subject
Gompo Posted September 19, 2010 Posted September 19, 2010 Nigel, why wouldnt we want pics of you? Unfortunately I cant make Stondon as I am away that weekend. Barrett, I'm not sure an essay is needed just yet. I'm guessing there will be various pics of Stondon though. I am somewhat disappointed that the only weekend/week I actually do something this collides with only the second national AS meet. To be honest it's my Mum who is more interested in seeing Nigel.. Cheers, Greg.
reallyloud Posted October 18, 2010 Author Posted October 18, 2010 Not photographed anything recently in a rare lapse of inactivity - might even retire for a bit and let the pups take over. However, I've found my scanner and have been downloading drivers and software for my computer in order to present you with shite I took with my 35mm camera some years ago. Even better is that I'm in the process of sorting out 1000's of car snaps I took from 1990 to about 2005. Here's a few that I've uploaded to Flickr already. Snapped 2003 - tax expired 2007. Snapped 1994 - tax expired 2003. Snapped 2004 Snapped 2001 Snapped 1998 - tax expired 2003 Snapped 2001. They'll be more.
brammy777 Posted October 18, 2010 Posted October 18, 2010 Ive started to take photos of the not so common cars in the hope that one day, it will provide for fascinating viewing, both yours and SLs old shots have been my main inspiration here. I love these photos, film shots have so much more warmth to them, and the finds are of course, fantastic.
Mr Lobster Posted October 19, 2010 Posted October 19, 2010 Blimey, great stuff! Looking forward to seeing more. I really need to go and buy a scanner and scan some of my old stuff in...
Spottedlaurel Posted October 19, 2010 Posted October 19, 2010 Great photos as expected. I’ll dig my big box out and keep scanning in the oldies over winter, it makes up for the winter days when decent spots are thin on the ground.
