Travelling with a camera: my photo scans from the early 90's

Thanks for the generous comments, glad the pics were enjoyed. I obviously took a several hundred snaps - mostly identical models but i'll get some of the Nova ones up too, I think they're getting to an age where people are leaving off the mdf and crappy body kits and just applying subtle details.

Today was a great day - managed to squeeze 3 shows in! First show was a early morning trek over to Thame for the Lancia AGM. I only stayed for a couple of hours but was not disappointed with the selection shown. I've displayed about 1/4 of what was there.

This is a Zagato bodied version of this....

Loads of Themas - 6 were at the show, including the ferrari engined one and the rare estate version.

Evos Deltas where coming in thick and fast - but these 2 caught my eye.

These are seriously valuable - 50k+ gets you something like this - spyder versions can reach 250K.

And some modern examples.

New Delta - not sure what to make of it to be honest - its huge but I guess the model sector has grown up over the years.

So, after my fix of Lancias, I join the M40 northbound to Gaydon, about an hours drive. Today is the Citroen day at the venue, but also provided visitors with a bonus Ford fiesta show. I've included a very small selection of the offerings.

And finally as a bonus to the Citroen show, on the other side of the car park are the mk1 Fiestas owners club meet. So many of the Fiestas, especially the Supersports had a intoxicating effect on me. I never really considered how well preportioned and attractive these cars are. Again these are just a small selection.

I may have just had a trouser accident.

The Vignale Appia and the Flavia coupe are two of my favourite cars, but reaqlly I can't think of any pre-90s Lancia I wouldn't like. All of the ones in the pics are ace, good to see a Gamma Berlina too.

Of the Citroens, the metallic green GS really does it for me.

I like the last Fezza too, very tastefully done.

Great pics as usual (almost getting bored of saying that on this thread...)

Fantastic pics as usual.

The Gamma Berlina is an Autoshite Q car as far as I'm concerned...would love to own one but would imagine them to be rather troublesome !!

Montecarlo is one of those cars that seem to get modified all the time..colour-coded bumpers..upgraded wheels..headlamp conversions etc....so it's nice to see original spec ones.

I had a lovely 19,000 mile Series 1 that was all original...have always regretted selling it but just found it very cramped for a 6 footer.

I have strong desires towards Aurelia B20s, since before I knew they were mega wonga. I either need to win the lottery or there needs to be a serious "price adjustment"

The new Delta looks hideous to my eyes

DY C1T needed in the number plate thread I think!

Nice to see so few of the Fiestas have been hit with the "FWD-Nearly-OSF" etc stick.

So these would be yours then?

Very nice indeed.

Here's the BX GT.

Both the Citroen/Fiesta and Lancia shows were free which goes some way into justifying the diesel costs.

Those MKI Fiestas look lovely, they were great little cars and waited alot longer than other Fords of that era to get their classic status. The yellow Fiesta Festival is my favorite and there cant be many of that model left.

With regard to retrogeezers previous post on the BX Gt I dont know much about them but my mates dad had afew in his field back in the 90's and he had a GT or GTi version that was around an F reg in a bluey grey colour think he probably scrapped it.

- This used to be my BX

Great, aren't they? After my GS was totalled in early '90, I bought a BX16RE (in the dark, in the rain, in a pub car park... ) to replace it. Brilliant thing. Traded it after three months for a 19GTi. Not so brilliant.

I love Mk1 BXs - the red one above was the one I bought blind off ebay and traveled down to Camborne in Cornwall to drive it back to Glasgow - epic and enjoyable trip of planes, trains and , er a BX..

It was one previous owner, full service up til 2006, 48K on the clock and was a really good base for a resto. Did lots of work to it including fitting LPG to its little 1.6 engine.

I would still have that BX (called Cyril btw) if it wasn't for a chronic failure of finances a year ago. Now some horrible little boy owns it and judging by the things he asks on BXclub forum, he has but a semi clue how to make it mint. Keeps referring to "my mechanic says.." which angers me for some reason.

Was your BX16 a 'TRS' model like Cyril? - not bad level of equipment for such an old car: all round electrics, central locking, digital rev counter and wee symbols to show which door is open and, er, that is all.

(EDIT) just re-noticed you said it was a 16RE - I iz dum.

Also had an auto choke that varied wildly in its performance! PAS never fully worked right - never seemed to assist quite enough despite me rebuilding the flow divider and fitting a brand new hydraulic pump.

Anyway, I'm seriously feeling the horn of those Lancias^^ actually ALL of them. And the Fiesta supersport is the stuff of dreams..

Again another superb set of pictures, especially the Lancias, they must be the only company who have never made a boring car :D

I'm another one with a soft spot for the BXs, the one I owned was the most comfortable car I have had. As a bonus, the 'Leader' written along the front doors finally destroyed the myth that 'you are what you drive'

I wonder if E 981 VOA has survived; I would think it very much against the odds :(

Again thanks for the responses! Glad to see that I'm not alone in thinking how great those fiestas look. Later that day I went over to Santa pod for the retro car show, I got there quite late and missed quite a few cars, but here's a selection of a few that caught my eye.

Another trip over to Billing, Northants, this time to attend the Toyota Enthusiasts AGM. The spirit of the show echoes the original Japanese auto extravaganza which used to meet up here years ago, until the event got taken over by another promoter who modernised it but made it far more attractive to fans of Japanese performance cars.

There's real potential for this classic car event to grow again, with a little control and less bass bins. Hopefully next year they'll be other clubs too.

Posted Image

I think this one is a GT4 - very similar to the Rally spec car. Note the neater rear lights compared to the normal version below.

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

I never really cared much for these MA61 Celicas, but they're starting to grow on me - that 80's shape is starting to look good again.

Posted Image

Very rare sunseeker model, but its the original that does it for me every time.

Posted Image

Early 'flat light' version.

Posted Image

Recently restored.

Posted Image

I think this was a Japanese import.

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

Both these Corollas have quite a lot in common, the early models body shape was used for the performance Levin model - which is essentially what the white AE86 model evolved into. Judging by its condition it doesn't look like its been ever driven sideways.

Posted Image

The very first uk spec Crown, it appeared in several road tests at the time.

One close to my heart - identical in every respect to the one my Dad had in 1974 - and 2 years older than my one.

Posted Image

Well magazine featured Corona.

Posted Image

Posted Image

...and there were a surprisingly low number of non-Toyotas this year. 2 Datsuns were at the show, a red 810 Bluebird appeared for a few hours and then decided to leave early.

This was here last year but deserves another viewing.

That Toyota Corona belongs to a chap on flickr called Fergus McIver.

Yup thats right, he's owned some very interesting Japanese cars in his time too. The work he's done on the car up to date is quite inspiring - the engine drop is totally reversable too.

Looks like the TEC had a decent amount of stuff on Sunday – they were a bit despondent on Saturday with the dozen or so cars there when I went. We must make more of an effort to get OJCers there again next year – I think it clashed with other things for most of us this year.

Marina estate in your earlier post is interesting to see. Suffolk registration, looks like a Mann Egerton sticker in the back window so probably from Ipswich when new. I remember one or two other HRT...V cars around town from 20-odd years ago, including a 140J.

Really must update my own spotting thread one day.

I was a bit disappointed by the lack of non-Toyota stuff there - I think the timing (start of the summer holidays) and £10 entrance fee counted against it but full credit to the Toyota guys for keeping the event on track every year without fail. Next year I'll have something to show....

Here are a few sedate spots seen in between my journeys.

These 4 trucks were seen during the harvest in the village where my parents live. All the vehicles have special road tax permits to be used within the confines of the farm. I remember them since I was young but have only just got round to documenting them. The owner of the farm drives a S1 1950 Land Rover and possibly other wierd and wonderful farm vehicles hidden in the barns.

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

These two are pretty much the same vehicle, its only when I checked their tax discs did it become clear that they were a Morris and Austin.

Posted Image

Relative newcomer on a 71/K!

And then back on the road....

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

I saw this Audi broken down off the M271 on saturday evening, looks like the AA brought it to the local Sainsburys car park that night. I snapped this early Sunday morning and I'm assuming it had been repaired as it had gone by Tuesday.

Posted Image

Posted Image

This double headlight Cabstars have disappeared off the roads rather quickly - no doubt rust would have had an effect but I think these are prime export market fodder too.

Posted Image

Posted Image

This Polo full of Trebus plastic bags made me laugh.

Posted Image

These are very underated cars.

Posted Image

Yet another mid 80's Civic.

I snapped the following near Silverstone, I found a vantage spot and snapped at some of the cars coming out of some event that had happened there. The majority of cars were inevitably 2 door open topped cars, 80's Porsches or oddball Italian sports cars - I missed the Ferrari Pinin (the same 4 door sedan I smapped at goodwood) as well as some racing Ferrari and Maseratis but manged to get these in.

Posted Image

Nothing like a 60's design wearing a 70's frock. BL colours have to be the most recognised of all hues.

One of several bus conversions car transporters that I snapped. The Volvo badge is an interesting addition - I'm fairly confident that this is a Ford - I used to go to school on something very similar.

What's the deal with that 2 door chevette estate?

When i suggested a DIY chevanne a few months ago someone said there were no two door estates.

Unlikely... that 2/3 door version is the only estate version of the Chevette - no 4/5 door option.
