Borrowed the works Vw Caddy van and picked up a RECONDITIONED E series engine for the Allegro this evening. Its complete with a gearbox (although I don't think thats a recon unit, but its clean as fook) The guy I collected it from is a retired engineer type and did a total rebuild (crank grind, new cam, timing chain and tensioner, rebore, lick of paint- all that shizz) on the engine around 30 years ago but his Maxi was damaged and subsequently scrapped before he could put the engine back in. It had sat in his garage for all those years, just waiting for an Allegro to come along and give it a new home. Can't wait to whack it in!

Hey crew.

My aunt's just texted me about her '99 Focus TDDi, it's spat its fuel pump. I think they were planning to get rid anyway, as it's quite rusty and high mileage.

She asked about scrapping it, but I think it's worth a bit more than scrap value as it is. How much is it worth?

30 years is a long time: valves seals, crank seals, compressed valve springs in various static positions all that time. I'd refresh some of these bits were it mine.

Why bother? ..............lob the bastard in, it'll be fine [well maybe a bit of lubrication down the bores before you start it!] If it smokes, THEN replace valve seals etc

Weighed in (or technically sold to someone who will) I'd expect to see about £200 from what I've read on other forums.

eBay: Hmm, hard to tell but unless it's really horrible and has no MOT I'd be amazed if you saw less than £300 for it.

Opinion: Lob on the bay 99p start £280 reserve and take it from there.

Probably better to weigh it in then for the hassle involved dealing with mouth breathing mongs, etc. I'm pretty sure it's fully road legal and it ran well before the pump binned itself, it's just rather rust.

I'm half thinking about buying it just to make some £££ off the spares.

Probably worth doing. I'd imagine the lock set and ECU alone would see good money and if it's a posh model then some bits of trim and shit would probably see a few quid.

Piss taking aside would it go with a tow or easy start? If so then a car auction might be worth a bash if you're crafty/sneaky enough. If you do go down that route p.m me and I'll give you some tips if needed.

Meanwhile I'll ask about for you, where is the car located please?

It's quite plush, a Ghia.

The fuel pump's completely had it according to the garage, but I'd take that diagnosis with a pinch of salt as garages seem to lay any diesel fuel problem with the injection pump.

It's at the arse end of nowhere in rural Inverness shire.

In response to Torsens Beemer and seeing all those lovely ones others have had mines now 40mm lower and sat on Bilsteins :D ,Completely Different car to drive , feels much much better

Did you use the eccentric top mounts when doing that?

It makes it even betterer.

Alas no , still feels 100 times better , didnt want the OMG boy racer slammed look as thats just stupid with all the speed humps around here , 40mm drop looks good and i can still fit 4 adults in it without the Zorst hitting the road :lol: ,

The doris called today saying the handbrake was stuck on on the left wheel of her Pug 106, she got it free by going backwards and forwards. She mentioned it's been inconsistant since the MOT, so I popped the drum off to have a look. It seems the garage that did the MOT managed to detach the lining from a shoe during the test.

Fitted a new aerial to the Cavalier, and can now get MW and LW!

I lost a traffic light GP today. To a black cab. Slightly embarrassing, even if his engine was four times the size of mine.

A total of zero interest in the MR2 thus far

Got a text from my former Stepson today....The BG model (Flip-light) Mazda 323f that I gave him close to two years ago is still going strong, and far from having been scrapped (as I'd have expected by now), is being traded-in for a newer car....A Mazda 3....I'm very proud....It could so easily have been a Corsa or summat....I guess the 323f impressed him as much as it did me!

He offered me the 323 back....Sadly, I lack the space.

Made a start on doing the water pump on the Escort today....fingers crossed all seemed to go o.k with the pump bolts turning a bit so hopefully not seized. I've not removed them yet as it started to piss down with rain before I got to draining the cooling system but I wanted to make sure the bolts were not seized.

Never done something like this on a cambelt car before so a new experience and I'm just hoping it goes back together o.k.

Astra now gone. I did something I always swore I'd never do again and delivered it before I got paid. Short drive to sunny Crewe, met new owner who's well happy with it then train back home.

Fair play, trains haven't half changed since a few years back: it was very clean, very quiet and got from Crewe to Chester in 19 minutes.

If not too late for you to rescue this, I could store it at mine.

Had a pre-MoT check done on the Camry V6 saloon, main things it needs are a bit of exhaust and front brake imbalance sorting. Former sorted by ordering one online (front pipe, where the pipes join and it contains a couple of flexi joints, reasonable at just over £100). The garage can do the brakes. I think I can handle the wiper blades they also mentioned, and otherwise there were a couple of advisories. Hoping to have it on the road for £400-500 including purchase price, which given how clean and straight it is and how well it drives I'm happy with.

If I have to sell it on when I buy the V6 estate (possible, as we have a lot of work planned on the house this year) then I shouldn't end up too far out of pocket.

Happy birthday, bud. That pic's made my day, really. Top stuff...

Hang on a mo...would an Escort fit into a Tranny like that? And how much clothes line would be necessary to stop it falling out of the back, between Czech and Merseyside? *Pete to the front desk, Pete to the front desk...we have a solution!*

I think I've reached the conclusion that the Scimitar is going to have go. It's a car I like looking at, but not one I really like driving. Putting me in a sports car is a bit like putting a footballer on Mastermind. The two are not really compatible.

Once more, I'm left wondering what the right car is. Quite fancy a Citroen GS, but they're almost as thirsty as the Scimitar and they rot in all sorts of nasty ways. A Triumph Doloposhite would tick a lot of boxes, or maybe something a little bit obscure like a Ford Corsair. V4-tastic.

LOL, I think I'd need a mega LWB jobbie.
