My Cavalier passed the MOT this morning, just a good wash and polish between it and the for sale boards now!

Oh God, no offence like but I sort of hope I can't afford it: How much will you be looking at for the Cavalier please Mr B?

The Scimitar has landed - the BX is gone. Bit of an exhausting weekend (a fantastic gig last night in Stratford) and the fact that it's raining here means more photos will have to wait. On the way back, putting the headlights on made the voltmeter dip below 12v and the temperature gauge seemed to start reading higher, so I guess the electrical fun and games have already started! That said, it whisked us home very nicely. Overdrive is ace.

EDIT - oh go on then. Just been out to take some piccies before the light vanishes.

Thanks. It's faker than a beach-bought Rolex though. Laminated wood and vinyl galore! Previous owner did a lovely job of trimming the dashboard though - they're not usually like that.

Wow - I cant think where i've seen anything quite that tan before.

and a straight se5a dashtop  i dont think ive ever seen one before without bubbles and cracks

looks like a very good buy DW, well done

re: electrickery problems - check your voltage regulator is working correctly (affects fuel guage too)

check the earths for it too - you will find it on the near side inner wing, under the scuttle

re: wobbly badges - most likely they have lost their locating rods - new badges are available, but remember to ask for se5a, as se5 and se6 badges are different size to se5a

Crikey Autofive - the wiring's fun where the voltage regulator is isn't it? Soooo many wires! Anyway, my trusty multimeter tells me that the voltage is absolutely fine, so it's a faulty gauge - though this and the peculiar temp gauge suggests there is indeed an earthing issue somewhere.

I've also got the rear washer working. Turns out that the pump was dead and I happened to have a brand new one sitting around - AND I was actually able to find it!

Front suspension is now greased. Took the wheels off for the necessary access, and to check the state of the brakes. No worries there. Wheels are bloomin' heavier than I'm used to though! Grease nipples all showed signs of fairly recent attention - I think it's only done about 800 miles since the previous owner serviced it, though that was last summer.

oh yes - its busy in there

check the earth strap behind the dash (its the earth for the radio too) as this strap gets wet and rots

if you need gauges - i have a couple

My MGF failed it's MOT on Friday - two bulbs, a wheel bearing 'a bit rough' and a loose steering arm adjuster nut! It's retested tomorrow and hopefully I've tightened everything up adequately. I can't believe everything's done.

Also, the hydragas bloke pumped it up a little too high:

O.M.G.

Not the car - the location.

I used to live next door to you. Or rather, I used to live next door-but-one to where you now live. (House in the far left of the second pic.)

How long have you lived there?

Small world, etc..

After 3 years of sitting in my garage unmoved, I finally brought the 1990 Sterling out for a bit:

Mate of mine brought down a new battery and some jump leads, the engine had not been turned over for 3 years, however, I had out to bring it to turn it around and back it into the garage as its due to be picked up and taken for new gearbox fittage and hopefully an MOT. It just makes it easier to access to the engine.

As its been standing for a long time, moving it was always going to be a bit of a challenge, hooking up the battery it started without problem, but the current gearbox needs a bit of pursuasion to get it to select the correct gear, thankfully it did, and with a loud *clunk* the brakes freed up and the car moved without issue out of the garage.

It was very dusty and smelt a bit damp inside, there were also a few small webs and but thankfully thats down to the amount of time its not been touched, apart from the obvious, it need a good wash and proper valet. Hopefully the car be on the road in the next few weeks.

Lovely. Good luck getting it sorted. They really are a fine looking car. I'd have a Sterling for during the week, and a red 827 Vitesse for the weekends.

Tonight I finally evicted the Chavalier from the garage, and moved in some real shite! Single-handedly manoeuvred it around with the old technique of pushing it about with my Rover (using an old tyre for cushioning of course)

I had an epic 2 day 1100 mile roadtrip over Sunday and Monday, resulting in my friend ending up with a very nice Nisaan 300ZX twin turbo, and myself donning a wifebeater and growing a mullet, and coming home in this :)

Yee Haa!

First impressions are it's actually rather good!

Following on from the Scirocco getting a new weber

- it now does 36mpg whilst pottering about instead of the 28mpg it did before -

apparently the carb is jetted for a 1800 not a 1600

if I changed the jetting would this make

a - any difference?

b - faster?

c - quicker?

d - more economical?

Thanks in anticipation

38DGAS on a Pinto does make them quicker, and doesn't seem to have much effect of fuel consumption, and that's a 3 litre carb on a 2 litre engine, so 200 cc difference isn't going to make a lot of difference. Anything would be better cran shite Pieberg original it probably came with. I presume it's a 28/32?

Went to start today and all the electrics cut out, a problem I diagnosed as a loose positive terminal. Should be easy except the bolt that hold the main cable on has seized and since it's such soft metal I can't get any leverage on it. Not going to attempt to strip and refit the wire onto the new terminal whilst racing against the dark, so I've shoved a couple of small screws in to secure the terminal

Sorry to say Mr WorldofCeri, it's not my house! Those were the photos the seller took for the advert.

That's a nice story, NC. Can I re-post that to another forum?

Look at Norm trying to rip-off NC's hard work there! I bet you were gonna claim that as your own!
