One would suspect said Maser belongs to another of our fold.

And it looks like I've managed to borrow a trailer to move said Masershati for it's new owner. This is gonna be interesting.

I'll put the kettle on. Do you take sugar?

Ah, duh! etc.

....ROVER 800 NEWS.......

Last week I balled on down to the garage where my sodding 827 has been languashing to change the fuel filters. So far 2 have been lost in the post and another 4 fro various part paces didnt fit. 1 of another set fuel filters that was given to me by my mate fitted, but the car still wouldnt start. I read the fault codes from the ECU under drivers seat. Myself and mechanic mate tracked down this fault to the Crank-Shaft Position Sensor. Obviously no one does any parts for the Rover 827 anymore, its farce just getting sevice parts, let alone anything else

So I trawled ebay and found a sensor, my mechanic mate bought it and it arrived today. Whilst in class I got a call from the garage - Its the wrong part, its for a Rover 820, not an 827

Great, so that leaves me yet again without a car for yet another couple of weeks, its been 4/5 weeks since it broke down, its let me down and I'm really tempted to send the fucking thing over bridge and be done with it. If the crank-sensor isnt the problem then it will be sent over the bridge. I cant afford to keep throwing money at this piece of crap.

Yo sterling, I thik you ought to have a go at your garage, at the end of the day the fuel filter is only going to have a standard-sized pipe going in and out of it and be held on by some poxy clips. If its so difficult to find the right-size filter, then surely some sort of universal one could be fitted or one from something else adapted. Its a pretty standard external part not some horrible gearbox control servo.... tell them to use a bit of initiative and stop arsing about.

Crank sensor sounds like more of a problem however, I thought you had a spares car?

Lord_Sterling: I'm with Boll, your garage sounds shit.

Now, parts availability. As you well know your car is just a Legend in a Rovercoat, so:

10: GOTO http://www.hondaoriginalparts.com

20: Pretend your car is a v6 Legend,

30: Find what it is you need

40: Order

50: REM: Wait for delivery, twiddle thumbs, etc.

60: Get bit fitted (preferably by a different garage),

70: Drive car until something else breaks

80: GOTO 10.

Rod - Its a crank sensor I need, fits by the distributor cap. If there are parts I need that are hard to find I'll either use the Rover 800 boys or if in real difficulty I use the Honda garage and pretend my car is a legend. The garage did get me price for the crank sensor pretending my car was a Legend, the price was about £110 (supply and fit at my garage) but the Honda dealers said we'd be waiting from 2 weeks up to 6 months, I've decided to take an alternative route.

I found the fuel filters didnt actually fit, there seems to be different types, on the top of the filter is a fitment where the feed goes in, the fitment on top of the filter differs in size, the one I needed was a short fitment, the other filters tried where long fitments which therefore made petrol leak from that area.

Anyway, might have a lead on the crank sensor, lets see what else can go wrong from here...........

It's a cam sensor then, I think. I don't believe the C27 has a crank angle sensor in that sense. Could well be talking horseshit, of course.

tempted to buy back my old 1985 fiesta ghia in maroon, been sat on a drive for 6 years since I gave it to the brother in law.

what could possibly go wrong?

EscRot has paint!

Should have it back tomorrow. It aint pretty but its solid at least. Means Ive only got a month to MOT it, but all being well (meaning: I can make all the lights work, rebuild the brakes, stick a couple of my stash of tyres on and fabricate some sort of electric washer setup because the footpump is pish) it should fly through :lol:

"Crank Angle" and "Crank Position" sensors are one and the same. Different manufacturers use the 2 different terms. Ford use both terms!

Since gearbox went tits up on the Laguna still been using it as a 4 speed with no reverse and I can tell you parking takes some thinking about. Noises are getting louder and am awaiting detonation.

Got a call today from a trader mate who knew of my plight and offered a snotter with some atx & test to use as a stop gap.

It is a 2 litre Chrysler Voyager! I wasn;t even aware they did a 2 litre but they do (obviously really popular) It is truely a horrible piece of shite to drive, but it does have all the gears!

With lots of high-speed, long distance driving in mind (Eastern Germany next month and the Netherlands in October), I changed TV2's engine coolant today, as it has never been done during my ownership of the car; although it was still up to strength, it looked a bit murky and the expansion tank had a fair amount of crud in it (almost, but not quite totally removed due to the baffles inside the tank impeding my progress). Indeed, I think that it could have been the stuff that the car left the factory with, as Volvo considered the V70's cooling system to be 'sealed for life' unless leaks occurred or repairs had to be made to the system.

To cut a long story short, I managed to do the job within an hour, including setting up and tidying away, largely due to the fact that the car's radiator has a drain tap. If only things were always as easy; my erstwhile Rover 214's cooling system was a real pain to drain and refill and would suffer from air-locks for months afterwards, which I later found out is the wont of the Rover K-Series engine's cooling system

The next jobs will be replacing the engine oil and filter and getting two of the car's most deteriorated wheels refurbished (the passenger side ones), as I've found a local company who will do them for me next week for a price that I'm happy to pay. As ever, watch this space.

EscRot is back!!! Back in the yard, looking better, but still rough and ready. Just how I like it.

Pictorial update tomorrow...

Got tame mechanic coming to look at Saab tomorrow (at which point he will find it was something simple I have forgotten to connect) because I am falling out of love with it at the moment.

VW gears were more difficult to find than a blowjob in a nunnery. Looks like it is the linkage. Ordered the front gearlever bushing repair kit and a speedo cable. Got under the van and I don't think it is that bit. Bugger. And the previous owner has coated the underside of the van in black gunk. Which gets on everything .. and gets everywhere. The rear most gear linkages are supposed to be a proper pain to do..

Micra is now making a strange clonking on OSF which will need looking at. Yet the best vehicle at the moment round here is Mr Noahs Ark ...

Rubber on the pick up for the fuel pump has perished. Hence the car not starting and cutting out. It was really subtle although the more you look the more cracks and splits you find.

Will have to try and track down a new version. .hmm

Dealerplates is a very fine, numberplate specific polish only available in the UK.

Would you like me to post you a tube?

Range Rover is back. ABS light still on but apparently records no faults when you plug the computer in. Guess the bulb's coming out for now! Nice drive back. Mate in a Delica took me to collect it. Makes my Rangie seem quite low slung, but appeared to handle pretty well.

You been on the paint thinner, Norm?

In other news, I scored a 2CV on Test Drive Unlimited 2. I think it's a 2CV4, as it's only 18BHP. It's great for the muddy field bits

Been driving daughter's 75, she's nicked my C5 estate to shift house.

It is proving to be quite a pleasant drive, more refined than the C5 and lots of mysterious buttons to push.

Does anyone know though, how to access the tail light cluster? There is a bulb out on either side and I can't work out how to remove the cluster from inside - which must be the correct method, rather than removing the lens?

Posted

Great, thanks ashmicro, I'll go and have a gander at that right away, spent ages uselessly poking around with it earlier and afraid to damage it, as it isn't mine and the Rover is her current pride and joy.

Posted

That worked perfectly - so simple when you know how :)

Except the tail light that wasn't working is now but one of the other bulbs has a broken filament. Fog light I think

I was sure I had a stash of bulbs here somewhere but like everything else they can only be found when looking for something completely different.

Naturally my spares are in my car and hers are probably still in her SAAB.

Thanks again ashmicro.
