Sorry for the slightly o/t subject Wuvvum, but are those electric outboards any good? I fancy a small boat (probably a rower) for some gentle river/canal use and having seen those 'leccy motors dirt cheap brand new on eBay I wondered if they were much cop? Cheers.

Boat?, you don't want a boat, you can do it the Autoshite way with this:

Crewed by four, two pedalling at the back and two on oars at the front, winner of a local raft race for the last two years and so quick we've been told not to enter it next year.

Hmm, tempting. However to save all the mither of getting some old oil drums and rope wouldn't have been easier to just buy an Omega in the first place?

VUKking hell, excellent!

'News'.... Pressurewashed the 2CV, saw water & shanpoo run on the inside of the rear window... oops. Gave it a good vacuum on the inside which made it 98% better. Then I hacked its voicemail.

This month's C&SC has a buying guide for these Mazzers. Haven't really looked at it yet, but I think it went mwaa ha ha haaaa! That might just have been the bodywork section. I still think it's a cool buy...

The drivers door central locking has now broke on the Golf, I unlocked it fine, went to lock at again straight after and nothing happens, Key turns but lock doesn't move, but it still works perfectly fine on the passenger door though, If only everything was a dependable as a Volkswagen...

One would suspect said Maser belongs to another of our fold.

Checked the battery on the Scorpio, my Aldi tester says it seems to hold charge OK but the alternator is a tiny bit sluggish. Therefore I guess there's only a tiny possibility of the battery going completely flat, so I won't bother replacing anything...

By the way, do the DVLA have a consistent policy in terms of timing reminders? Both of my cars will need taxing at the end of this month, but I've only got a reminder for the Scorpio, which arrived a good 10 days ago.

Range Rover is apparently working properly again - a new ABS pump seems to have cured the issues. I say new, it's a second-hand one, but I'm still very pleased at the £75 I'll have to pay for the pump. New ones are ten times that, and even used ones usually command a three-figure sum.

Have been working through some of the 2CVs issues. Engine is back together again, after fitting a very, very nice second-hand cylinder head. Apparently, you need to drive the car gently for a few weeks and avoid labouring before retorquing the heads. Not sure how I'm going to manage that around here...

With the engine back together again, I turned my attention to the interior. A few minutes work with a screwdriver and the main dash panel was out and I could replace the blown speedo light. Then took the headlamp switch apart, as it has a horrible tendency to turn off the headlamps when you switch to main beam. Not fun! Seems the contact barrel is badly deformed in places - well, it has survived 180,000 miles... Now trying to locate a good spare, so that job has ground to a halt. Other plan is to rip the rest of the dash area out and fit some soundproofing...

And it looks like I've managed to borrow a trailer to move said Masershati for it's new owner. This is gonna be interesting.

Bought five litres of anti-freeze and a bottle of Bars Leaks from the GSF branch near work at lunchtime today, as I intend to change TV2's coolant at some point in the next couple of days in order to prepare it for a long, fast trip to Germany next month. It will be the first time I have ever done a coolant change on a FWD Volvo, so wish me luck...

Decided I need another clear out, naturally silly offers for my shite continues:

Do I want to do a straight swap for the Jag with a 1990-something BMW 728? Obviously not.

Do I want to swap the Clio for a flaming radio controlled car that doesn't even work properly? FFS!

Next up on the 'to go' list are sadly possibly the Cavalier (the diesel I now have is mint on fuel and veg oil friendly) and my scooter. The day dream of owning an Italian Lambretta slips slowly away as time goes on, they fetch stupid money and it's too much for something that'll just be a toy.

....ROVER 800 NEWS.......

Last week I balled on down to the garage where my sodding 827 has been languashing to change the fuel filters. So far 2 have been lost in the post and another 4 fro various part paces didnt fit. 1 of another set fuel filters that was given to me by my mate fitted, but the car still wouldnt start. I read the fault codes from the ECU under drivers seat. Myself and mechanic mate tracked down this fault to the Crank-Shaft Position Sensor. Obviously no one does any parts for the Rover 827 anymore, its farce just getting sevice parts, let alone anything else

So I trawled ebay and found a sensor, my mechanic mate bought it and it arrived today. Whilst in class I got a call from the garage - Its the wrong part, its for a Rover 820, not an 827

Great, so that leaves me yet again without a car for yet another couple of weeks, its been 4/5 weeks since it broke down, its let me down and I'm really tempted to send the fucking thing over bridge and be done with it. If the crank-sensor isnt the problem then it will be sent over the bridge. I cant afford to keep throwing money at this piece of crap.

Yo sterling, I thik you ought to have a go at your garage, at the end of the day the fuel filter is only going to have a standard-sized pipe going in and out of it and be held on by some poxy clips. If its so difficult to find the right-size filter, then surely some sort of universal one could be fitted or one from something else adapted. Its a pretty standard external part not some horrible gearbox control servo.... tell them to use a bit of initiative and stop arsing about.

Crank sensor sounds like more of a problem however, I thought you had a spares car?

Lord_Sterling: I'm with Boll, your garage sounds shit.

Now, parts availability. As you well know your car is just a Legend in a Rovercoat, so:

10: GOTO http://www.hondaoriginalparts.com

20: Pretend your car is a v6 Legend,

30: Find what it is you need

40: Order

50: REM: Wait for delivery, twiddle thumbs, etc.

60: Get bit fitted (preferably by a different garage),

70: Drive car until something else breaks

80: GOTO 10.

Rod - Its a crank sensor I need, fits by the distributor cap. If there are parts I need that are hard to find I'll either use the Rover 800 boys or if in real difficulty I use the Honda garage and pretend my car is a legend. The garage did get me price for the crank sensor pretending my car was a Legend, the price was about £110 (supply and fit at my garage) but the Honda dealers said we'd be waiting from 2 weeks up to 6 months, I've decided to take an alternative route.

I found the fuel filters didnt actually fit, there seems to be different types, on the top of the filter is a fitment where the feed goes in, the fitment on top of the filter differs in size, the one I needed was a short fitment, the other filters tried where long fitments which therefore made petrol leak from that area.

Anyway, might have a lead on the crank sensor, lets see what else can go wrong from here...........

It's a cam sensor then, I think. I don't believe the C27 has a crank angle sensor in that sense. Could well be talking horseshit, of course.

Posted

tempted to buy back my old 1985 fiesta ghia in maroon, been sat on a drive for 6 years since I gave it to the brother in law.

what could possibly go wrong?

EscRot has paint!

Should have it back tomorrow. It aint pretty but its solid at least. Means Ive only got a month to MOT it, but all being well (meaning: I can make all the lights work, rebuild the brakes, stick a couple of my stash of tyres on and fabricate some sort of electric washer setup because the footpump is pish) it should fly through :lol:

"Crank Angle" and "Crank Position" sensors are one and the same. Different manufacturers use the 2 different terms. Ford use both terms!
