Good luck Mr_Bol

I have got a FULL DAY in the garage lined up for today, i'm hopping to get my Rover back in one piece and running again. BRILLIANT!

Did you stand on a head bolt?

Today it was more two wheeled fun. Got a puncture about three miles from home, thanks to the good folks in the scooter club the spare was on in to time though. All going well until it started getting a bit flat at times, then I had to dodge a flying Lambretta parts from another lad's scooter, then my sidepanel decided it'd be more fun to try and jump ship a few times on the way home. Oh and I had to carry my spare wheel cover inside my coat as I forgot to bolt the bastard back on and as a result I have two stroke oil all over my nice tee shirt.

Interior heater in Passat bing wankish again, there's a surprise. There's a hole in the plastic casing (or possibly the glove box) so the heater blows nice warm air out of the windscreen vent and a freezing cold fucking blast into the passenger footwell.

The entire fleet has made it to Wales! Very intermittent 'net access (when I can blag it from the very friendly Hafod Hotel - plug, plug) but they all made it over here at least.

CX was completely problem free on the journey over. Mini still needs the 'overheating' looking at. 2CV is overdue a service, BX has taken to occasionally not starting. Might have to check for an air leak on the fuel lines or maybe the filter needs replacement despite me thinking it didn't.

Congrats Dolly. Is the move all complete now? We had a bad enough time moving about 200 yards a few years ago. I couldn't bear to think about moving everything we've since accumulated to another part of the UK.

There's a photographer bod coming tomorrow to take some photos of the Herald for the last part of the engine swap soap opera in RC. This has meant a last minute rush to try and make it looks slightly more presentable. Even polish has been involved! I had the unusual experience of being dazzled by the sun's reflection off the roof earlier. The paint is truly buggered so will be back to matt blue soon enough. There was some judicious use of gaffer tape to try and hold the ripped headlining up at the back as it hangs below the line of the back window. Also hoovered the carpets which does get done periodically and it always makes it a nicer place to be as the black shows up every spek. I think it probably looks about as good as it can now. Which still isn't exactly saying much...

My Rover now has an engine in the enigne bay again, its all fitted bar the middle/back exhaust boxes, and the radiator which today I snapped a hose stub off like a turnip-handed idiot boy from the fens.

The great start-up event should be happening one night this week however. Hurrah!!!! Its only about 2 1/2 months since the fuggin thing shat itself!!!!

Good work on the "Roverdose", whilst it's in there are you going to sort the bumpers like you did on Pa_Bo11ox's motor or keep putting it off? Get on with it eh!

I'd like to try a T series powered R8 at some point, hope it isn't as troublesome as yours!

I'm just back from 'bringing' another Mk3 Golf 1.9D. What have I done? It's miserable.

I shall, at some point in the near future, be getting rid of the 205 diesel. No pics or details cos I is at de librarerey, thanks to Mrs_Dukes failure to sort out some internetz at the new house (or indeed a phone line of any description  ) I'm sure someone can dig up Hirst's original sale thread from the murky depths. It looks exactly the same, bar some rather fetching wheeltrims, and some more interior trim.

Just a quick heads-up, when I'm back on a proper 'pooter I shall put up a proper ad. I'm sure half the forum will be beating an oil-stained path to my driveway within hours... :?

Looks like I’ll hang on to the Ginetta for a while so I made an effort to get the heater more efficient. A quick look at the Cortina heater matrix showed that it was never that great and thirty years haven’t improved things. A trip to my local dismantlers saw a matrix off something much more modern which I fitted with progressively more foam to stop the air escaping.

Fitted and bled on Sunday, a quick test showed that it didn’t leak, first real test this morning. There was (just) warm air through the vents after half a mile and really warm after three miles. It meant I didn’t have to point all the air at the screen – I could have the window open and warm air on my tootsies, which is a lovely way to travel.

I connected up the heated rear screen and it’s got 12 volts across it, but I’m not convinced it’s actually working. I’m no stranger to having a few broken wires along a screen, but I wonder if they’re all broken?

Is it

a) Pre 1990 (classic policy)

B) 5 speed?

c) with power steering?

Yes, yes, and no. The last point being why it's leaving me - Mrs_Duke needs lighter steering

I was at work last night, when this pulled into the carpark.

E169 AAR - RIP.

I went to see the car today in daylight, turned out it was a one previous owner car that had a very good body, but unfortunately the interior was a right mess, the front seats were ripped, the back seat and headlining was missing, the rear windows had been painted over and boards had been screwed over them. Then there was the fact the owner wouldn't shift off £210 (the price of scrap and tax) so very sadly I had to pass on it. It gets baled tomorrow morning.

I would have loved to save it, but already having several projects on the go, no space, no access to a replacement interior and no potential for any profit (very tidy Maestros regularly go for under £200 on the bay) ment I had to pass on it :(

I guess you can't save them all Dicky, There's still plenty of half decent Maestros out there still, At least it was a shed and not a decent one getting scrapped.

Thanks Trigger, it makes me feel a bit less guilty. It was a real shed, due to being used as a sparky's van for the last two years. I know the beige one probably would have been scrapped if I hadn't saved it, and that's a far, far better car.

I did not do much work on the cars this weekend due to being lazy and me needing to replace the liner of my welder (and not remembering how to do it) so I did a gif animation of my driveway fo' shizz.

Booked in for MOT this week:

Got up 5am yesterday to drive it to the MOT station in the early hours as I didnt want any traffic about. This is cos the car is virtually 'brakeless'. It also stuttered quite a lot when pulling away so had to be very gradual with the acceleration. Anyway, today the garage have phoned to say brakes are all ok...new hoses all round and new discs but the fuel filter looks like it's full of 'tea'. Looks like a carb/fuel-line clean and they are going to swill out the tank. Presumably 20 odd years of crud in there.

Can't wait to get behind the wheel I must admit. The original wheels are back on( all refurbished so look brand new!), but I've decided to keep those SERCK plates for the time being...I quite like them!!

Shogun is back to being alive........ :D Some very suspect use of Scotch-bloc connectors apears to be the problem, Hmmmm............

MOT next week hopefully.

Next? Start to strip the Scimitar, Engine out and bin the rest of it :(

YESS! I like this! The only good alloys are slotties IMHO.

Fiesta passed its MOT today, only cost £120 for a bit of welding, front bearing and a few other odds and sods. RESULT!

Just bashed together the annual repair to the exhaust on the CX. The down pipe to flexi section join seems to blow a joint annually and this week was that annual charge. This time I repaired the mismatched exhaust join repair with an aluminium sprite can instead of last year's apparently steel drinks can repair. Anyway, I stopped the 'putter' sound of the exhaust by applying a new Sprite can and some Halfords exhaust paste and a pair of clamps to sort out the 'weak spot' on the CX's exhaust as is the case every year about this time. It is now silent like the meadows n' shit.

This year with an aluminium can as the material of choice, I thinks the the repair will last* and not bother me with shit as per usual at this time each year when I really should be worrying about the salt spreaders.

(*so it's really quite likely that the down pipe will in some way fuk up soonwise but it's OK. I have cans...)

Do y'all really need a photo of this shit?

Yes

Hahaha

OK

So here's the mighty slug mobile"

_MG_8906.jpg

A fairly innocuous snap of a 70s exhaust downpipe?

_MG_8911.jpg

OR, is this a SHITE repair situation including a drinks can?

_MG_8912.jpg

Yes it iz

This is (dunno if you can see it, ) a sprite can. Aluminium for extra quality....

 Quality j-j , true Autoshite fix !

Bonus points for going out and snapping the photo's

Will it actually pass an MOT with that can on there though ??

Haha, well I just had to go out and get some snaps (although I did this job yesterday..) as for the MOT: well that was weeks ago (not that in shite terms, weeks = well. quite a while) so the MOT was bagged weeks ago but I wanted to stop the recent razzzzz from the exhaust personally ( I might love shite but I prefer my shite refined..)

I've swapped the Wellers (with winter tyres) back on to the Herald this afternoon. Thought it sensible to have a good look at the brakes too. Pads are starting to get a bit low so I'll add them to the list for Stoneleigh this Sunday. Can't see any sign of warping to the discs so think it must be an oval drum at the back that is making the pedal wobble a bit when braking. Unfortunately neither drum wanted to part company with the hub, one was not freeing off after gentle tapping and one of the retaining screws on the other was getting mullered by the impact driver. So I'll have to revisit that lot soon. I think it may be prudent to get a new pair of drums so I can damage the old ones when getting them off and some new shoes too as its been a while since I've looked inside I think.

The P100 has finally chewed it's gearbox up....ah well I know what I'm doing tomorrow

as far as I know they have to pass it and can only put an advisory of 'temporary repair'.

Agreed. If the exhaust is secure (ie unlikely fall off - can be as rattly as you like), not leaking gasses then I believe thats a pass!
