The basic problem with all H&S legislation is that it is drafted to try and mitigate against complete mongs harming themselves. I've done a few H&S courses, and the phrase to remember is "practicably possible". As long as you ensure that most people with the IQ slightly higher than a toaster are catered for, the law is pretty much on your side. The problems start when some jobsworth with a spreadsheet to fill out decides that all staff must complete a course in how to make a cuppa without a] scalding themselves b] electrocuting themselves c] drowning.

 

True, but sadly I bet a fair percentage of it is to [try and) stop Britain becoming like America where companies get sued for not mentioning Fruit & Nut chocolate bars contain nuts and that sort of thing. Our work place must be the H&S capital of the world and sometimes it can seem crazy, but in the cold light of day all the rules are there to protect us in one form or another and rules I scoffed at have saved me on numerous occasions.

Blimey............I am well out of touch with prices! The alernator on the Wench's car quit this morning and it cost 309 to replace (labour 75).

 

I was only thinking the other week how well modern alts seem to last! The lucas ACRs were about 20/30 but didn't last long.

 

Reasonable Alf reckons that 300 quid is not bad for a car we have had for 8 years...............but Angry Alf just can't get over spending 300 quid on a routine repair. Never spent so much on a repair.

 

It is fine for other people's cars to go wrong and cost more. Just not mine.

Work - Begining to REALLY piss me off.

I've not been trained to a 'good level' on any of the machines on-site

Yet, i am expected to run around like a mad bastard and fix everything !

I've been able to use basic knowledge coupled together with my tiny grasp and understanding of basic mechanics and engineering, this so far has not failed me and i have been able to "wing it" .

But now i feel REAL training is needed, at this rate i'm never going to become any sort of f*cking Engineer.....

Did i also mention i've been left to train someone else ? , Would help if he knew his ass from his elbow too

 

Simply talk to your manager i hear you say ! , trust me it's not that simple.

 

Anyway, i've got another shit-heap car in my life

Got a letter from the bank saying they weren't able to make a payment on the 14th, because no money was there. Which is a bit shit when I have letters from them saying they'd got my request to take the funds on the 23rd , isn't it? I make the money available when it's needed.

 

I can't even ring them now to ask them what's going on, because they don't work at the weekend.

This is a fucking piss take and probably the last time I use FJ. The whole thing has been a fucking debacle.
