The grumpy thread

the world would be a better place if internet forum users could only post their own pictures! Now stop it! Let's get back to some sensible grumping and less of the willy-waggling!

I don't know what's worse, BMW drivers or BMW driver haters.

Me, I've had four BMWs, three made in Brighton, and one made in Germany

So, let me get this straight: Mike Burroughs rebuilds cars to look like shit like this, & has fuck all Hour gold medals to his creations' credits, seeing as he designed fuck all of their structure to begin with:

Whereas Mike Burrowsburrows.jpg is an utter legend for designing the Lotus 108

Now that's sorted, can we move on?

Set up a Paypal Beg account. I'll drop in a couple bucks. (Although, it looks basically finished to me. )

Nah, sorry Norm - E21s are BOSS.

Not BOSS in the Mustang 429 sense, in the Scouse sense, you understand, we are the number one dance band in Tokyo (aaah ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh).

I'm gonna jump in here, and I've a feeling I really shouldn't...

IT'S ONLY A FUCKING FORUM FOR FUCK'S SAKE

Norm, your net persona's an abrasive creature at the best of times. So they took you the wrong way, and banned you. Fuck 'em, their loss: your obvious talent at making and fixing bits of racing cars remains undiminished, and the people who need to find you can find you.

Now while RR is indeed a big pile of rancid cabbage, with some (occaisional) bloody wonderful engineering attached, it's self-evidently had its' day. So can we all move on, and stop wibbling about like the front three rows of a Justin Bieber gig? Please?

I've strolled away from a few forums, undiminished, and without a care in the world before, and my life didn't unravel. I'd suggest a whole raft of people here do the same. Much like a drunken brawl/flail outside a nightclub at 3am; it really isn't worth it.

I'm still grumpy tho': a festival of Boddington's and The Pixies hasn't cured my grumps. Fuck.

yes please

Running away from this steaming pile you curled up & left, hmm?

IMO they are overrated, overcomplicated, fuel guzzling and very heavy cars that (when less than three years old) are driven by arrogant roadhogs

That goes for every 'modern' out there surely?

And you wonder why you were banned from RR for a year Norm. Please take down the foil curtains, the aliens won't abduct you again, honest.

No, I don't wonder. I know. I can't take down the foils, some guy in a BMW wanted them back for his flat in Amazo Towers.

That's the penthouse at the top; you can tell which one it is by the rusty lime green MII Capri GL hanging on by a horse's hair, waiting for when you walk past to drop, Damocles-style.

The glint from your bacofoil-covered trilby and matching shoes should give it away.

There was a Beetle in Thailand with loads of swastikas over it! They obviously had no idea, and I didn't care either to be honest.

There's a rather nice house on the road from Wolverhampton to Kidderminster that has a Swastika above the front door. I do hope it's there for Buddhist (or whatever) type reasons.

Oh, I'm copacetic about RR, it's just that Norm's such fertile material. I'll stop now, let the old warhorse neigh on for a bit on his own.

Are ill-fitting pants required to be in this club?

No no, you're getting mixed up with the DUBBER PINEAPPLE TRAINERS SHOELACE CREW. Their strides hang round their arse as an embodiment of the iffy camber their cars display.

Re the F1, whilst I am pissed off with the BBC for getting bummed by Sky I am never going to agree with the ditch the licence debate that looked like it could flare up so thought I would move it here and keep it on track over there.

I am happy as long as we have 4 channels in the evening that dont show adverts. Sky shows (and other channels) over 15 minutes of ads each hour. So if you watch 1 hour of TV a day for a year you are shown 91.25 hours of adverts or 3.8 days of adverts in a year. What a fucking waste of time. 3.8 days of fucking car insurance and payday loans adverts in 1 year. Its depressing isn't it? Although the adverts are probably better than the programme on a lot of those channels.

Okay, ads are handy for going to the loo/making a drink/ having a wank but I dont need the loo that much, am not that thirsty and cant really manage too many wanks in one hour and its awkward when I have friends over.

£140 a year or whatever seems like good value to me for TV without adverts when I work it out like that. It saves me over 3 days and 9 hours of shit a year. Seems cheap at twice the price.

Soz, rant over.

But why would you want to watch TV when you can get 99.999% of all the content you'll ever need from the internet? The BBC is a bit like the Euro*- irrespective of whether it works well, it's a political project*. It reinforces government and/or 'mainstream' viewpoints (you don't need to talk about a malicious case like with Dr Kelly- just look at the thinly veiled house price ramping during the boom and their relative silence about recent evidence of global cooling). However, I'm not too bothered with the current system of being able to opt out from the licence and TV viewing, at least as long as it allows me to tell the TVL goons who want to visit me to bugger off.

*that's not to say that the BBC, or the Euro for that matter, is inherently good or bad. I don't have any answers to such complicated questions!

Not sure about that to be honest, for example have you ever watched Panorama it rarely seems to side with the government view point of the time.

In my opinion the BBC is probably more free from political ties than some "privately" owned news outlets e.g. Fox News and dare I say Sky News which a certain Mr. Murdoch has a rather large stake in!!

The problem is mostly with the news. It's impossible to be entirely objective when it comes to the amount of exposure given to and/or type of wording used to describe ''stuff that happens". It doesn't have to be orchestrated- it's all about each person's experiences/social circle. if I was resposible for news editing, I'd jump at the chance to throw a mention of Talbot on an item describing a PSA decision to close a little-known subsidiary that makes an obscure part. People who mingle/work with government/mainstream politicians will, often unconsciously, tend to be biased and viewing the world from that kind of viewpoint.

That's true, but the privately-owned outlets don't directly consume any taxpayer money....Of course, the fun really starts when press/media ownership is, as we say in Greece (home of an untold number of newspapers which nobody ever reads), 'interlaced' with bids for lucrative government contracts for infrastructure and/or services.

Are you seriously saying the BBC is/was being used to 'deliberately' inflate house prices?

Perhaps he meant 'BBC RUINED IRISH AND GREEK ECONOMIES SHOCKER, 15 PAGES OF PISS POOR EXPLANATIONS.

*Would readers please note The Frogeye Saga will resume next week. Don't forget to tune in as the whole internet explains to Captain Unobvious the difference between round and square posts'.

But that's the trick...it doesn't have to be deliberate! If most of your mates are estate agents and BTL landlords, you're likely to form a more bullish opinion on the property market (especially so on the way up) than someone who hangs around/works with farmers or engineers...and that's why it's a good idea to get your news from a variety of sources (preferably ones based in different parts of the world), as the bias (whether it's deliberate or not) is more likely to cancel itself out.
