I thank you.

Driving home from work in my Austin Cambridge about an hour ago, I got to a short stretch of national speed limit single carriageway road, where I was doing about 40 as the car was still cold. Well my headlights picked out a little rabbit on the other side of the road. The next thing was a FUCKING BMW went roaring past me at 60-70 mph and the little rabbit didn't stand a chance. The driver didn't care, he/she roared off into the distance and disappeared. Anyway I took the car's registration (not that anything could be done with it), turns out that number belongs to a Vauxhall Astra Sport.:evil::x:x

Todays Grump...

You can do anything you normally would with an Allegro in freezing conditions... except get in it!

ARSE. No amount of door hugging/rubbing/blowing on is getting me in the damned thing!

The Innocenti didn't want to know this morning. It would appear that -4°c is too cold for a petrol engine with no choke to start. It was trying to go, but it couldn't quite get there before the battery started to tire. I'm going to have to get it on the driveway tonight, take the air filter off and see if I can rig something up to pull the choke on manually.

Well at least your starter motors aren't doing fakkin weird things! Mine would chug to life if only the bloody thing could crank over more than twice.

That last sentence sounded really nice  Hahaha I know your pain - I got frozen out a few weeks ago in the first ice attack and couldn't open the boot or doors. Once you get the door barrel to turn you hear it 'unlock' but still it's 'locked' ? why is this? it seems early CXs are a wee bit prone to having the actual locking mechanism freeze up in the door..

I now secretly leave the rear passenger side door unlocked....

Mu gripe today refers to last week's worst snow day and HGV drivers. I don't get it - they were all gunning it on an icy, dark M74 last week when the few cars braving it were all below 40. I even had a fakkin Latvian twunk undertake me using the exit lane just before it ran out! Then an HGV gunning it past on the outside lane missing the door mirror by inches. I shit myself thinking of the stopping distance of one of these in that weather at that speed.

Pop it on the drive, put a small container of lit meths under the sump 5 minutes before spraying some sort of cold-start into the intake - job done.

Could it please be Lord Sterling's nob? That would indeed be justice. Always twist the knife as it enters, and pick up that phone and NARC on 'im! Could you qualify for a reward from DVLA, like a Heath Bar or a coupon for a blue neon chassis kit from Halfords?

Hell Norm, you could almost be a Brit!

You've been hanging around with us undesirables too long, amigo... 8)

Bins haven't been collected for the second week on the trot because its cold. They "may" get collected next week. Theres already a mountain of rubbish building up with black bin bags being ripped open by animals and litter blowing about. Serves us right for living up a mountain I guess! Except we don't. We live in the middle of a busy town with gritted roads and easy access for everyone.

Maybe I should fail to pay my council tax because its a bit nippy.

5. Recruitment agencies. Ramming the phone up your arse is a complete waste of my time as well, but least one of us would leave the building having done something constructive. You hateful piece of shit.

I feel your pain Brother Wat. (Not through having a piece of telephonic communication device wedged in my cleft, I hasten to add)

Our bins (we have 2, one recycle, one regular, collect alternate weeks) didn't get collected last monday, although to be fair we were snowed in, and there was a blizzard happening. This morning (while I was defrosting the car) a bin lorry started its way up the street. There was a short discussion with the neighbours about which bin they had come for (they missed the regular one last week, that's the big heavy full of ash one...) so I played safe and put them both out. Dragged the heavy one through a foot deep snowdrift and up a lump of ice to the kerb, then went out for the day. Got back this evening, they didn't take either of them! According to the gossip, they decided at the top of the street that it was "too difficult" to wheel the bins, so they didn't. So I dragged the (full) bins back into the yard again :(

I cancelled my council tax direct debit last week. I can't afford to pay them until next week because when I'm snowed in I get no work done, and make no money, and the bank would charge me £25 for a letter plus intereest on the overdraft where the council will just write me a letter wingeing and threatening to take me to court. They can wait.

^^Has King George gotten rid of the debtor prisons yet? Or is that still a viable lifestyle option?

UK prisoners are exempt from paying council tax, unless they have been jailed for non-payment of council tax. In the 15 years I've lived here, I have paid more council tax than the house cost in the first place. Under the old "unfair" rates system, I'd be paying about £240, last years CT bill was £1096. I wasn't grumpy about that until I started thinking about it.....

Don't worry, I am. It's the price I pay for living in the arse end of nowhere. land and property is cheap, cos no bugger wants to live here.

Problem with the council tax system is that the bottom band (up to £40,000 1991 value) covers the whole district, from crappy coal terraces that were worth £1000 then (like mine) to 4 bed detached in half an acre. All band A. so, our band A tax is crippling because they have to maintain their budget... Probably works fine in london (actually, I checked, I pay the same as someone in £250,000 worth in wandsworth) but round here a grand a year to get the bin emptied sometimes is taking the piss a little.

Ours were collected this moaning. I was quite surprised as the pavements are very icy, even if the roads are relatively clear.

The manager of the care home I work at asked me if I would take 6 staff members to another home in Stisted, Essex on Thursday in our minibus. I found out today, via my manager, that they need to leave at 7.00 am (I normaly start at 8.00) and the training they're going for finishes at 4.00. So I'm in for a 11-12 hour day, basicaly twiddling my thumbs while I'm there. And I don't get paid overtime, I have to take the time in lieu...

No. I have a choice of a an 02 plate Vauxhall Movano or a 58 plate Merc Spinter automatic...

Think I'll take the Merc.

And Noel Edmonds thinks it's the most handsome estate car ever designed - what's more, it's British!

Ha! When I was in the Cubs 'Akela' had a Monty estate. We would always fight over who got to go in the rear facing seats on trips out. I remember sitting next to a mate who got travel sick and filled the boot with vomit. I can still smell it.

Bloody luxury! Our scout leader had a Renault 16, it regularly carried eight people and I think 12 was the record. Occasionally parents would help with the transport but it was rare for any car not to be overloaded with passengers.
