Spoke to futures housing group about the property this morning and I've got to wait till Monday with no heating or hot water. Spoke to environmental health and was told that's perfectly reasonable. Fucking grand.

 

I call bullshit on that. They've clearly not heard of Decent Home Standards then....

 

For the HA I work for, we'd have someone there within 24 hrs to diagnose at the very least - if we can't fix within seven days then you're in compo territory. In the interim we'd at the very least provide fan heaters or oil-filled rads. If there's any vulnerable residents, gold star treatment, essentially.

 

Time for an email to their CEO - emphasise the vulnerability, threaten that you'll go the papers and your MP, batter their Twitter account. Believe me, this course of action will give them the kick up the arse they clearly need.

I found a V70 2.5t this morning. £700. Now I was on that like the proverbial tramp on chips. Had a little conversation with the seller. He said he'd be open to offers. I asked him how much basically, and he told me he'd let it go for £500, but with minimal questions.

Now I really didn't like the sound of that, but it has an mot until December. I'm just wondering if it's on the edge of grenading.

What do you lot think, stay away or pursue?

For £500 i'd take a punt.  Whats the MOT history looking like?  Worst case scenario you end up having to frag it in December and get £150-200 back.

Could you not press them with reference to your wife's recent health concerns? Doesn't sound like someone that has recently been discharged from hospital should be expected to spend 4-5 days without heating or hot water in winter.

I've just bought this house but the HA it was owned by were generally very good at coming out to attend problems.

Some of the 'engineers' that they used made things worse instead of better but otherwise no complaints.

 

I do need a new boiler soon though.

I think this would be enough grounds for the HA to consider you as vulnerable tenants. I'd persevere, even make a nuisance of myself if I was in a similar situation. No hot water or heating is usually considered an emergency situation so matters should have been taken into account within 24 hours.

Mrs P moans about the commercialism of Valentine’s Day. As it was our anniversary a week ago and I well overspent on that I gave Valentines a swerve.

I travelled for nearly 3 hours managing to avoid the Shit that is the m6, and walked in with my lame rose plant and shit card, and pretty much had it thrown back in my face.

Wife had cooked a 3 course meal, and decided that I have had enough chances to make it right and Valentine's day is the day that I should have put some extra effort in.

We didn't get past the first course. She packed a bag and went to stay at her sister's house. (MikeR's wife)

I have to agree with her. I put absolutely no effort in.

I drove her 240 miles each way at the weekend, to have a weekend away. Before that I was doing silly hours at work, but managed to spend an afternoon in a city to try and buy her a Birthday present for Monday. I saw some Valentine's gifts but I was in birthday present mode.

I didn't come home on Monday night because I was told to come home Tuesday for my birthday. I was led to believe that everything was fine on Wednesday.

 

For fucks sake.

 

My attempt to save our marriage by being nice and positive has not worked. It can't have helped that her mum phoned 10 minutes before I arrived home and fucked up her plans for tomorrow.

But no I take All the blame.
