The grumpy thread

My most-hated word of EVAH used to be "pro-active" - I used to grind my teeth with frustration every time I heard it. Then "corporate" itself started touching a raw nerve with me, due to its continual use as a (pointless) prefix to so many other words.

Now, I can be reduced to paroxysms (sic?) of rage by receiving an email asking me to "action" something  My mental state is now so warped I literally have to walk away from the computer and slam some filing cabinets to relieve the anger. IT'S A FUCKING NOUN YOU PRETENTIOUS CNUTS, NOT A SHITTING VERB!! WHY CAN'T YOU JUST ASK ME TO DO SOMETHING, YOU CAN EVEN ORDER ME TO DO IT IN A REALLY OBNOXIOUS AND RUDE WAY, I DON'T CARE, JUST STOP MOLESTING THE LANGUAGE!!

I dislike management twat speak also. In fact I wrote a 'translation matrix' which did the rounds as an office email, and a work station FAQ before being pulled for being 'irrelevant and profoundly negative'.

I wrote my name on an anonymous survey today.

The mob I work for seem to think that "teaming" is a verb..........

Is it even a word?

It looks a good word to describe numerous fellows enjoying the one female at the same time.

We just call that 'kebab and chips'.

"going forward" annoys me.

What's the alternative?

'Taking all your suggestions seriously' and in fact doing nothing.

Nothing 'goes forward' in an office environment.

"going forward" annoys me.

What's the alternative?

Going backwards?

Also, "That ants nest was teeming." Managers obviously can't spoll.

That was what I imagined the correct spelling \ context of 'teeming' to be.

The best EVER misspelt sign I've ever seen was one that appeared on the plasmas across the site.

'Quality is impotent'

They took it down after they heard me laughing like a drain across the office. There was also the sign telling people not to submit essays in plastic wallets at University. The sign was pinned to the wall in a plastic wallet.

In my seminar report, the tutor wrote that 'Jon is often awkward to a fault'.[/i]

I imagine working at GAP would be something akin to shovelling coal into Hell's own furnace.

Yes, "going forward" and "moving forward" are piss-boiling. Comforting to hear that things like this annoy others too. I am regularly the only one in my day to day surroundings who is bothered by it.

Last year I sat in on a few days of Prince 2 training. If a question was asked to the class, and an answer came back, the response from the lecturer (I use that word as loosely as possible - the only project she had ever even been remotely involved with was, by her own admission, the fitting of a bathroom) was constantly "cool", or sometimes "kewl".

No.

"focus."................wtf happened to "concentrate"!

Was the Concentrate a smaller stronger Cortina?

I had to endure a couple of years on a "contact centre" and have numerous mental scars to show. The intranet was called "Live it, Love it", an afternoon line-dancing, two hours of enforced "snakes and ladders", "Thirsty Horses" training etc etc.

They found time for all that ridiculous shit but never managed to get the pc to take less than a full 20 minutes to fire up......or not constantly crash......

There are people out there that can 'live it, love it' their call centre bank work. I've done it a few times and found it unbearable, either getting 'let go' because I can't bear to get up in the morning to be on time, or just not turning up. We have MBNA/Bank Of America which is just like a vortex of arselickers, backstabbers and the security personnel there are absolute fucking wankers.

After it hanging around for weeks and not getting any bites for it, I decided to sell our Saab on Ebay.

The auction finishes at 19:45 and Mrs_cav tels me the result over the phone, since I'm on a night shoot.

I get up this morning, check my e-mails and it turns out a guy with a (0) history has bid. Not to worry, we all have to start from somewhere. However, at 19:52 last night, he'd sent the following message:

"please can you send me contact deatails so i can set off chears"

Right. So you live at least 50 miles away from the car, which realistically means you wouldn't collect any time before 10pm. ASK YOURSELF whether you think that might not be a little ambitious? Collection was stated within 5 days, not 5 hours.

Don't knock it chief, I'd be bloody made up if half the morons on eBay got back to me at all, never mind offering to come up almost immediately.

At least he's keen and honestly that's a good thing.

Cavette, you're probably right. It's my fault that work got in the way but I didn't know I'd be working nights, so wouldn't be there when he comes to collect. Fortunately, my brother will be. Has just replied and should be there by 6. Fingers crossed!

Let us know what happens! Sadly I suspect it will be a 'negative transaction outcome'

One of our housemates. He doesn't like the fact me and my travel companion are here and has now told both of us no one wants us here. In fact everyone else is fine, it's just him who has the problem. What really annoys me is that he will only talk via text or facebook. If you have a problem, discuss it like adults not schoolgirls

Michael Ray Dibdin Heseltine. It's bad enough that his Haymarket operation owns Pistonheads, the most bellend infested car forum known to man but more importantly thanks a bunch for the 50 acre wasteland you created on my way to work everyday. One year of pretty flowers and the next quarter of a century of urban decay. Liverpool deserved better.

I'm guessing you mean the Festival site out by Otterspool? I work down the road ('work' is a term to be used in its loosest possible sense though) and have fancied having a wander around there. Now they are turning it into some sort of parkland with executive shoeboxes in it won't be the same I suspect.

Yes I do mean there. Plenty of pics on 28DL if you're interested.

Death - the whole hypocrisy of it all....

Just heard that bloke I went to school with has died, been ill for a while, cancer probably, something like that.

Had a "group" e-mail from a mutual friend, saying how sad it all was etc etc and how everyone was going to put into a collection yadda fuckin' yadda.

You've probably guessed by now, I'm not his biggest fan.

Thats the understatement of the year, yet I'm expected to be upset by his passing, and part with my hard earned. It's not gonna happen people, and if I get any more e-mails, then whoever sends them will be off my friends list.

My only regret is that he didn't hang on a bit longer, and suffer more, and that I didn't give him whatever finished him off.

Karma strikes again.

Am I wrong?

Dunno, always had a 'live and let live' policy, just ignore it.

The Garden Festival site is a state! I went there when I was about 8 and it was like another planet, such a shame it's gone the way of most things in that city - red brick luxury apartments or just pissy old nothingness.
