The grumpy thread

Aye, I used to huff and puff to prove how strong I was, nowadays I say fuck that - nobody will thank you for it especially not 15 years down the line when your back is knackered. I used to get MEGABONUS when I was a young lad working in a warehouse doing the 2 man pick stuff. The two of us would just split the work and do it alone cos we'd end up with an extra £50 a weekend.

Nowadays I won't even carry a 25KG boost pack up the stairs at work. The lads laugh at me, but sod that - we've got a trolley and a lift. I get paid alright but no amount of money is worth doing yourself in for.

WTF is that all about? Is it emulsion? You've got a chance of washing it off if so

Posted

It's emulsion. I've washed most of it off but the gutters and plastics and the like are a pain.

Utter bastards, As said get to the jet wash before it dries

I wouldn't have minded if it had been my C15. That needs a bucket of white paint thrown over it.

Even after it dries a good close up pressure wash should shift it.

Or mask the windows off and carry it on, it does look quite cool in a modern art shitty kind of way, itll learn whoever did it anyway. Maybe get a few different colours

Depends on the breed, I wouldn't like to see a 36kg chihuahua

I have a 6kg Chihuahua and she's heavy enough when she has to be carried!

Yep, that's the sort of stuff I work on. Almost all of it is WW fixings and BA electrical fixings.

Ferranti, Fuller, English Electric, Long & Crawford, Bonar Long, Crompton Parkinson etc etc all old companies that probably don't exist anymore. There's shit loads of it out there still working perfectly though!

And that boys & girls is why we have no industry. We built things proper & that left us unable to sell customers the same again ten years later.

Why? What makes people do that?

Generations of inbreeding is what makes some people do things like that.

Useless wastes of guts they are.

Bucketeer, that sucks!

In other news, have we noticed the words from the world of darts, where apparently the "walk-on girls" are no longer being used (ie, they're all being sacked).  Political Correctness gone mad?  Absolutely!  Apparently it's spread to F1 now, no Grid Girls any more.  Someone posted the headline on Facebook and it drew a LOT of comment, notably from one strident contributor.  Here's the sole comment I made, that earned me a lecture three times my post's length about cherishing beauty.

So we are supposed to hide away beauty, are we? Presumably next we will have to hide away speed, which will mean no more racing at all, of any kind. After that will be skill, which will spell the end for all so-called sports. Finally it'll be knowledge, and our beloved quiz shows will fall off the TV. Surely "Grid Girl" is a harmless career choice for a young lady, giving her a good living for relatively little effort. As long as there's nothing untoward going on that we don't see (and absolutely nothing going on in public!) then what's the problem?

It's glaringly obvious what the problem is, actually.  The problem is the rise of the Politics Of Misery, driven entirely by the mantra "I'm not having any fun so why the fuck should anyone else?"  There was even a debate on the horrendous Vine programme on Radio 2 on Monday, about the darts.  I caught some of it.  They lined up a walk-on girl, who sounded very normal, sensible and probably good company; and an objector, who simply couldn't get her head around the idea that the girls do it as a conscious career choice and (heaven forfend) actually enjoy themselves!  Oh and when the walk-on girl asked the objector what she did for a living (radio gold alert) the objector declined to reveal.  Er, come on woman, you're talking to, nay dictating to, this young lady whose occupation you do know and clearly object to, it isn't unreasonable that she might be allowed to know what you do (revealed a few sentences later: yoga teacher).

George Orwell was right.

I saw the interview on faceache with the two walk on girls being lectured by the militant feminist that they were being degraded, and when they said they were fine with it, bought all their own outfits and loved their jobs....she just said well....you are degrading other women so need to stop it anyway...the fucking miserable old shrew.

Tbh though it’s a side show compared to that absolute cretin of a Police Chief Constable saying drivers should be prosecuted for 1mph over the speed limit. I don’t know if it’s already been mentioned here, but if it has then it clearly hasn’t been grumped about nearly enough.

I can't agree at all Eddy, but I'm not sure here is the place to discuss it really. It'll just end up as divisive as Brexit given what my social media looks like today.

I've tried working with imperial and teaching myself, but I just find it antiquated nonsense. I just end up going back to metric, which is what I work with everyday, as that is what the construction world uses...

Don't build anything in Ontario. You get both at random.

Irons.

I've had to iron a shirt for my interview tomorrow and an iron that's only ever been used once before produced something that looks like birdshit all over my shirt. FFS!

Why do we have to wear suits anyway? they look shit, you might as well dress everyone as a clown it'd look as 'smart'.

Eddy, you are right to hold these views because that is/was the world you (and I, besides countless others ) have grown up in.

Unfortunately we are not to think this way any more, at least not in print or any other recorded fashion.   Living today is, for me, quite literally the same as being banished to a foreign country.  In exile, in fact.   We are never going to change this and all we can expect for our reactions is censure.   I am extremely fortunate to circulate in a small part of life that is not having any of it but it doesn't  unfortunately extend to the majority of the time/space continuum in which I have to live.

In short, mate its all fucking bollocks now.

Bollocks to it, I refuse to change my views due to idiots.

If it was demeaning to women to admre their beauty then your missus would slap you when you say 'you look great tonight love' before going out.

I like the comparison with "a foreign country."  Wish I'd thought of that!  It feels so accurate!

I very often daydream that I live in the Darling Buds of May land/time

If it was truly exploitative, women wouldn't do it. Can't say I get excited by it all, but if a young woman can make a few quid walking about and smiling who am I to complain?

Same with the F1. I only watch it for the racing (not that there has been much since the early 90's) and the grid girls don't influence my enjoyment (or not as the case may be)

The only thing I would say is I went to Brands Hatch once. It was bloody freezing and I felt for the girls wearing fake smiles and tiny costumes. They earned their money that day!

The good old days weren't a constant; just like orl Modernz izn't necessarily shit.

People these days seem to be far too quick to take offence on someone else's behalf (without being invited to do so) and to "challenge" everything.  Literally everything.  Every rule that's been in place for centuries for good reasons; every decision by anyone in any sort of authority; every lifestyle choice made by anyone who isn't them.  It's WRONG.  What happened to live-and-let-live?  It's gone the same way as make-do-and-mend.

Why can't we just get along?

Because the average human is a sub-normal cunt.
