bramz7 Posted June 25, 2017 Posted June 25, 2017 Went to start the BX Estate today ready for its journey on Tuesday for mass servicing and MOT. Won't start. Just clicks. Hope it's just the battery as I'll swap it from another one. Hopefully not the coil...
doobietoo Posted June 25, 2017 Posted June 25, 2017 I have a 62 bedroom hotel full of this type of shit I have to fix every day I feel really sorry for you...I did 6 and had to go round the outside of the bungalow collecting all the screws, screwdrivers and door handle packaging that had been launched out of various windows in frustration during the process... mercrocker 1
Bobthebeard Posted June 25, 2017 Posted June 25, 2017 I actually need a good cordless screwdriver. Got a job fitting some decking. Budget around £100 if possible. Any good ideas or tips?
Guest Hooli Posted June 25, 2017 Posted June 25, 2017 tips? Yes, buy a box (of tips/bits). As soon as they wear it'll start chewing the screws up. Bobthebeard, DeeJay and The Moog 3
MrDuke Posted June 25, 2017 Posted June 25, 2017 For £100 you could get a halfway-decent cordless drill, which would probably be far better at getting screws through wood? Bobthebeard 1
Lankytim Posted June 25, 2017 Posted June 25, 2017 Just returned from seeing a mega cheap LDV Convoy, 2.5 diesel It's Bulgarian registered and a bit tatty so I can't really make the sums add up enough to buy it. Seller had her boyfriend there and her son, who is a "mechanic" Yeah, turbo's gone on it mate, Does it smoke then? (laughing) no, turbo's don't smoke mate! if it was smoking it would be doing now, on tickover! It's just not boosting, basically all the blades have broken off so it's just spinning and not doing anything. Right. I told him about runaway diesel engines and how they can eat their own oil. "That's never happened, impossible mate!" He went on to tell me that my own personal experience with borked turbo seals and smokey engines was mistaken and my mates DCI Laguna deffo didn't have a runaway engine because "like I said mate, it's impossible, don't forget i trained up for 4 years to be a mechanic" he looked all of 23. Told him i'd seen a lorry do it once.- "aaah, but lorries are different" Seeing as I was round the ladies house and didn't want to cause a scene I just gave the "ooh, right, didn't know that" to everything he said. There were a few other ridiculous things, like saying the hole in a side wall down to the plies was still legal but tbh I'd stopped listening. Basically every time I tried to talk turkey with the seller this twat would butt in with some ridiculous "fact" that he'd make available to everyone. He friggng stunk of stale BO too. I'm giving this LWB LDV convoy a swerve if anyone's interested. It's £200 garethj, chodweaver, Lacquer Peel and 2 others 5

Any good ideas or tips?Titan 10.8v Li-ion twin pack from Screwfix. About 80 quid for an impact driver and drill - everything you need to fit decking in a handy carry case Spend the £20 on some decent bits and deck screws Bobthebeard 1

DodgeRover Posted June 26, 2017 Posted June 26, 2017 That convoy will be mega ropy, obviously they don't think it's going to make it back home or it would be gone as it would sell for good money. However IF it's the old Di transit engine and the body isn't falling off and it sounded ok just no boost then it's worth £200 Did you see if it was running a Lucas EPIC pump or a bosch?
MrDuke Posted June 26, 2017 Posted June 26, 2017 Coming up the A55 earlier, I passed a convoy of Transit tippers bearing the names of various 'home-improvement' services and pulling a variety of caravans with tinted windows. Obviously a small guild of respectable tradesmen who have decided to share a nice summer holiday. They didn't come off at my junction, but I'm still a bit wary as there's only a couple more junctions before Holyhead and I'm pretty sure they won't be heading to Dublin. oldcars and Cavcraft 2

However IF it's the old Di transit engine and the body isn't falling off and it sounded ok just no boost then it's worth £200 Did you see if it was running a Lucas EPIC pump or a bosch? It's come "home" to the UK, the seller and her family were British. It was just in Bulgaria for so long that it was registered out there. AFAIK it's the 2.5 Di engine, although by 03 reg it should be Duratec I couldn't actually tell because the bonnet cable was snapped and they wouldn't open the bonnet. Another thing that set alarm bells ringing. I think it would be worth £200 just to remove the "transit" engine and box (I think the turbo Di is a rarity in a transit) and bridge the rest. Not that many smiley transits around anymore though. I wonder if these things export?
DodgeRover Posted June 26, 2017 Posted June 26, 2017 Not sure about the LDVs but mk3/4/5 transits are going to Europe still. Was the EML light on? If it's a Lucas system they won't boost and only rev to 3000rpm when in limp.
gm Posted June 26, 2017 Posted June 26, 2017 what's taken a lump out of me garage door frame ? buggernuts ! note to self : turn down the tunes so you can hear the scraping noises next time

Just clicks.Hope it's just the battery as I'll swap it from another one. Hopefully not the coil... Oops. Missed this. Non-starting is very common on XUDs. Usually engine earth failure. I've resorted to making my own with a jump lead before now - gearbox to neg terminal. Once it's running, it'll be fine.
Danblez Posted June 26, 2017 Posted June 26, 2017 I actually need a good cordless screwdriver. Got a job fitting some decking. Budget around £100 if possible. Any good ideas or tips?If you only need a screw driver rather than drill combo then an impact driver is the future. Takes all the effort out of the job. You can get a half decent erbauer for around a ton. Bobthebeard 1
NorfolkNWeigh Posted June 26, 2017 Posted June 26, 2017 Had an email from MINI today, not that unusual, I suppose. I've never owned one but then random marketing messages arrive from all sorts of businesses. This wasn't random, it thanked me by name for visiting their Milton Keynes showroom on Saturday and asked if I needed anymore info. The thing is I didn't speak to anyone , let alone give my name or email address! These fuckers obviously hacked my phone and cross referenced it with info they have from when I've bought stuff in the past from the BMW parts dept.
fordperv Posted June 26, 2017 Posted June 26, 2017 Went out for tea and someone smacked their door into mine denting it and chipping the paint, you can see how bad the dent is from how the trim line in the reflection deviates, there is also paint exchange, I was fuming Yes it was the silver 206 in the picture, we caught up with the owner

Honey Badger Posted June 26, 2017 Posted June 26, 2017 I actually need a good cordless screwdriver. Got a job fitting some decking. Budget around £100 if possible. Any good ideas or tips? Any half way decent impact driver will do, but what ever you choose using decent screws like spax or reisser will make the job much easier as they self start and counter sink the head, cuts down on pre drilling holes to stop the wood splitting. http://reissernew.co.uk/shop/deck-screw/ https://www.spax.com/uk/craftsmen/screw-finder/products/stainless-steel/spax-specials/decking-screw-a2 Screwfix have set of dewalt 10.8v drill and impact driver, I use Ryobi which are a decent DIY brand but an 18v twin pack will set you back over 150 notes. 10.8v might struggle to drive in a load of 60mm decking screws, 18v will find it much easier. I've used the titan twin set and found it to be gutless, spend another 50 quid and get something 18v. Make sure you have a set with an impact driver though as they are great bits of kit and you can use them on your cars if you buy the socket adaptors. Bobthebeard 1
DeeJay Posted June 27, 2017 Posted June 27, 2017 Also get decent quality, proper size bits for the screws.(Poundland bits aren't very good.) Bobthebeard 1
doobietoo Posted June 27, 2017 Posted June 27, 2017 Couldn't find the ebay wankers thread so it is going hereOrdered a set of rear shocks off orocle-motorstore... and got this... Hi,We are sorry to say but seems that Contitech shown us wrong stock level and this shocker kit is out of stock. We can swap it to Boge shockers for 36 pounds extra and proceed with your order.Or refund you.let us know which option you prefer asap.RegardsSarunasSo I send this reply... In which case why have you not removed the item from sale or is it just an excuse to try to extract extra money from stupid ebayers? may be you should send me the alternative shocks FOC as now I will have to source them from elsewhere with all the extra time and effort that will entail.Yes if you will not send me the shocks I ordered then I will have a refund ASAP.Very Annoyed.....No answer yet...but I have already ordered the same shocks from another seller so we will see if they arrive...
NorfolkNWeigh Posted June 27, 2017 Posted June 27, 2017 I don't know what DID happen, but can tell you that the above DIDN'T happen....I don't mean some computer geek was in the showroom in a darkened room frantically tapping keys before I went out of range. But somehow, possibly from something I've inadvertently agreed to on a BMW website in the past ,combined with my phone trying to connect to their wifi or something , has generated this Big Brother type contact. To me that's marketing going too far.
Des Posted June 27, 2017 Posted June 27, 2017 That will be nothing as sinister as hacking your phone, they'll have lifted contact details from your brain by scanning it with gamma rays. chodweaver, anonymous user, The Moog and 9 others 12

The Moog Posted June 27, 2017 Posted June 27, 2017 I ordered some new caliper carrier bolts from the local Suzuki place. Ever since then I get them phoning me with their new car special deals - I am not sure £6 bolts = New car buyer. Interestingly they were having a sale and selling the cars at cost price to them recently .

Bobthebeard Posted June 27, 2017 Posted June 27, 2017 The weather and weather forecasts. Due to the BBC forecasting yellow warning of torrential rain this afternoon with possible disruption to travel etc cancelled an outdoor event for this afternoon.Currently sunshine and not raining. At all.Great. (Shakes fist at the heavens)
eddyramrod Posted June 27, 2017 Posted June 27, 2017 That red Proton I liked in the ebay thread? Right round the corner from where I used to live? MrsR has exercised veto on it. That probably also means I shouldn't go after the blue LDV either.....
